This is a small tribute to Ayrton Senna covering some of the defining moments from his career that made us remember him the way we all do. This video not only focuses on his driving prowess but also focuses on the difference Senna made off the track and how his career was driven by faith and religion. If you want me to make this into a series where I cover other significant events and even 'The Dark Side Of Ayrton Senna' let me know in the comments below.

What might have been: He'd have probably won the world championship in 94. Hill eventually pushed Schumacher all the way that season. In 95 in pursuit of driving the best car, he might have moved to Bennetton alongside Schumacher, which would have been... intense. If he'd stayed at Williams he'd not have won in 95, but surely in 96 and 97. After then, he'd have probably gone the same direction that Damon Hill did, and found minor teams to drive for as a challange. So we're looking at a total of 5 or 6 world championships, and in the region of 70-80 wins, with 100+ pole positions.

But karma won as Prost lost the title to Lauda because the Monaco GP was half points for early stoppage...Prost wouldve won championship if the race went the extra lap as he'd get full points for finishing 2nd to Senna. That was the start of their rivalry, it was deeply personal. I was a huge fan of F1 back in day and that 80's turbo era of Senna, Prost, Mansell, Piquet et al was very very special...and we knew it. he's a world champ who died on track. the way he went out gave him that poetic and tragic mystique. senna didn't have a post racing life, we only ever saw him as a racing driver. I think that's the main thing that differentiates his legacy from guys like Prost and Schumacher, they've lived as publicly known people after their F1 careers, we've seen them do, yk, human shit, just living life. we've also seen them be mediocre at other things, be unsuccessful in different ventures. that's massively changed the perception of them, and that change never happened in sennas case. don't get me wrong, I believe if the accident hadn't happened he would have retired in the late 90s with 4, maybe 5 drivers titles and still be regarded as one of the best if not the best drivers of all time. but part of the idea of Ayrton Senna in 2020 would be that, to a degree, he'd also just be a 60 year old dude from Brazil, not just this mythical, ungraspable figure he is seen as today. he'd be viewed as more real, more normal. similar things happened with Jim Clark's and Jochen Rindt's legacies.
@tiagoBE83

Couldn't agree more. I'm brazilian and was 11 when he died, so you can only imagine how I adored him and was devastated with that lost. So much so that watching races again was unbearable, even more having to know that Schumacher won the title, when we were so "sure" it would be Senna's 4th title after the imense amount of struggling the previous seasons against those fantastic Williams. Time goes by, and as I'm not a kid anymore and with all the information we get from backstage then and so on, that image I had of the myth changed. Still think the guy was the best I've ever seen, even if I admit that this is biased as it can be, but I don't care, LOL. The magic he delivered every sunday morning for us brazilians is unforgetable. "The higher you climb, the harder you fall", something along those lines I would say.

And by saying afterwards that I still think he’s the best, I was trying to acknowledge that even though my opinion changed, it not flipped 180. My point also was that, had he lived more and maybe acquiring even more status as our friend pointed out, he could continue doing great things and maybe some bad choices also, which could imply in a downfall of his image (like hypothetically getting involved with Brazilian politicians, a recipe for disaster Lol). I remember how i laughed at "You're going to Brazil" memes, this now made me felt bad as a fan of F1 too. And his name also lived in a hypercar, McLaren truly never forget him. Rest In Peace Senna, you're one of the best racers :
@sombraarthur
@sombraarthur 3 года назад
Don't worry about the memes, we Brazilians laugh a lot about them too, if we are not making them ourselves. McLaren never truly forgot Ayrton, same goes for Williams (every single Williams car carries the Senna logo on it, somewhere). And as McLaren never forgotten Senna, we Brazilians never forgot McLaren. Or Williams. Hell, if you go to a karting track, you will see many kids wearing a copy of his racing overall, damned be me, you will see alot of grown up men doing the same. All in McLaren colors. At least 6 in every 10 Brazilian racing fans love McLaren, one way or another, if not for Ayrton, then for Emerson Fittipaldi. The other 4 out of 10 loves Williams, and the 5th man from those 6 that love McLaren also loves Williams, but in secret. McLaren ALWAYS gave my country and our racing drivers a chance, same as Williams, with Nelson Piquet, Felipe Massa and Bruno Senna. And so, we do our BEST to give back to them the same dedication and chances they gave us. So, McLaren and Williams are the teams that EVERY SINGLE BRAZILIAN RACE FAN CHEERS FOR. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Although I have a simulated version of his GP car (lotus) I become so emotional knowing Ayrton mastered the art of driving but what shakes me within is the deep love of God he had. He always emphasised he would not do what he did if it wasn’t for the deep connection he had for The Creator, he held this deep belief from his debut to the moment he passed away. To add on top of the scary 1000hp turbo monster he drove completely on the limit. I cannot do it on a simulator. He was above any man who got behind the wheel of any car. Siempre Senna 💝

One can experience Senna's greatness trying to beat him in modern sims, having tracks and cars from those times with a pro steering wheel you'll quickly find out what racing was like for racers from that era. After trying to beat his times, count the amount of times you would have died trying to do so in real life, even without all the g-forces involved it would also be a great workout for your arms and shoulders. All of those drivers had massive skill and massive cohones, true madlads. Current F1 is even faster, yet luckily a bit safer, and even with properly enforced steering requires a very skilled driver to be able battling it out on those tracks at those speeds. Never knew about Senna's faith and and the efforts off the track. Nice video, thanks!

I am a massive F1 fan, due to permanent disability for the last five years, even more so. I am not a sports type person and do not follow any other sorts but F1 is the only sport I am absolutely hooked on. I have followed F1 since 1976 and my father did before me. That out of the way, as a dedicated fan of the sport I have to add I was also a dedicated fan of Ayrton. As you so clearly highlight how he stood out from the rest, I was impressed and we all knew it was only a matter of time before he became WC. I remember 1 May'94 so clearly because I should have been so excited at race start as I always am every race..... There was a very dark cloud hanging over everything, It was like a huge storm was coming and all the excitement was gone, It was a strange feeling that day. It was the darkest day of Formula One and I believe it will remain the darkest in the history of Formula One. The HANS (head and neck support) device was one of the positive things to come out of this terrible day and F1 has incredible safety measures in place that deaths are rare, they will still happen though as they have. We learn from them, We remember the names of our drivers with love and passion, they are never forgotten.

Thank you Scott! That’s so cool that you had the opportunity to witness Senna first hand. I can’t even imagine what Imola must’ve felt like. I can only believe that it was as sad as someone like Kobe Bryant dying earlier this year. Senna was taken too early. I only really covered a small portion of his career talking about his most memorable moments and why he was such a gem to the world of F1. As for his driving, he had a couple of traits that were questionable and very dangerous, but that’s all saved for another video. His legacy will last forever.

Senna may have saved others lives with his death. They made a chicane out of that corner he ran off of. Youre right about today being safer. It took Earnhardt dying to make the HANS device mandatory, but he would absolutely be alive today had he been wearing that. He and Senna were Babe Ruths. Insane to have them die on the track.

Great video. I'm glad that you used some part from my videos : "Ayrton Senna's death shocked the world" & "F1 1994 Imola (San Marino Grand Prix) - Ayrton Senna's death" (0:57-1:02). Ayrton was an exceptional driver with an enormous charisma and talent. The rare combination of both made him an eternal Legend, people will never forget. Even if you weren't his fan (at least in my case - used to keep my fingers crossed for Mansell and MS), you couldn't disregard his special personality and skills. I admired the way he was able to control his car in absolutely irreal, impossible circumstances, weather conditions. Dry or wet didn't matter to him. He always shined, impressed everybody, who followed this wonderful sport. Too bad, that his life was cut so short. But those 34 years - which were given to him - proved to be more than sufficient to make his mark in sport's history. I feel honoured to have had the privilege to be able to see him live on the race track in action, when he was driving at us, at the Hungaroring. It was a fantastic joy to watch, an unforgettable experience. This was the venue, where he always performed extraordinarily. To be successful here - this circuit has tricky low- and mid-speed corners - requires outstanding abilities. Ayrton still has huge amount of fans in Hungary. His name didnt fade. Respect for one of the greatest sportmen ever.

I grew up in the Era of Senna, Mansell, Arnoux, Piquet, Laffite, etc. I went to a few UK based GP including the 1985 European GP at Brands Hatch which Mansell won. Try as I might, I can't remember Senna at all from live GPs which is a shame. I obviously knew him from watching the races on TV but I was such a nationalist and Mansell (and later Damon Hill) fan that I never really gave Senna a chance. He did some remarkable drives but also some not so good stuff and AT THAT TIME he was not considered godly, just very good. By the end of his career, he had firmly established himself as a Top 5 all time great - absolutely justifiable and so, so much higher up than my poor UK drivers :) Over all these years since I have seen some epic single drives from many drivers including the obvious candidates but, I have to say, only Hamilton and Schumacher have shown great consistency, like Senna, in all conditions, over a prolonged period of time. To me it is a combination of speed, bravery, feel and the 'overall race awareness' part of the brain that they can engage even whilst at full throttle. This is where I see Hamilton being possibly the best of all in the way he ticks all 4 boxes so high. On this basis, I think a video from you breaking down these qualities might shine a light on the genius of these drivers and especially Hamilton. It is never all about stats. I suspect that Hamilton will have to crash or retire to start being considered the greatest but I do strongly believe he is, at the very least, the equal of Senna.
