2:53 Fun fact, that's actually not true. In reality we don't actually know why siphons work. It was thought for a long time that it was atmospheric pressure like you mentioned, until scientists found that siphons still work in a vacuum. Current prevalent theory iirc is that it has to do with gravity, and the liquid being "pulled" through the siphon acts like a chain with the leading bit of water pulling the bit behind it and so on and so forth
@NerdyNightly

Well damn that is crazy. Thank you for the info!

Starbucks was definitely a thing in the early 2000's for me. My mom would make a stop every morning and then drop me off at middle school and I would walk in with a caramel milk steamer and thought I was better than everyone LMAO

But was it a hipster thing back then? A reason to feel you're better than others because you picked up a caramel milk steamer like you're middle-management at a big-wig Manhattan firm? Honest question, I think that was opop's point. Maybe Starbucks was always hipster crap, until hipster coffee shops stole their hipster thunder, perhaps. I mean it's not like they invented coffee. The point is the presumption of being more sophisticated than everybody else, that's not something people associated with coffee shops, until perhaps Starbucks and later hipster joints, or maybe beatnik-wannabe coffee shops in the early 90's. I dunno.

I've heard from toilet cleaners that public women's restrooms are way worse, because they tend to sort of "stand" on the toilet and then have the tendency to piss and shit all over it and the floor or even the walls because of it. And Joel was obviously checking the mirror for… you guessed it… people. A working car loaded with cargo is big fat target. Humanizing the hunters is definitely not quite new though, as they've done this in Part 2 already, as it was quite important to the story as well. Ellie paralyzing the guy and then having to listen him beg and scream for his mom was rough though.

I am NOT a gamer but I own a PS4 for just these 2 TLOU games, and though I have watched a lot of game play with my daughter and her friends growing up and also here on RU-vid, this is the only game I know of that was created in such a way that you can tell Naughty Dog intended the player to feel remorse for killing many of the 'bad guys'. Many of the walkthroughs I prefer watching really don't like killing those they don't have to, especially the dogs. Most other games don't make you feel anything when you go on a killing spree. Kudos to Neil Druckmann and the others at Naughty Dog for that! SPOILER ALERT!!! DON'T READ BEYOND THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW THE WHOLE STORY FROM THE GAMES! Another thing they changed from the game is when Ellie tells Dina who was her first kill, it was the hunter that was about to kill Joel, but in this version she says that wasn't her first. The sad part is that I think we're going to find out her first kill was Riley after she finally turned. I could be wrong, but she was only bitten 3 weeks before she met Joel and Tess so to fit in this time frame that doesn't leave many people that she could have shot. Really heartbreaking if you think about it. This part is not so much a spoiler but in the game version Ellie was reading a comic book in the back seat when she complained about the comic book she was reading was a 'To be continued' leaving it at a 'clif-hanger'. So what did the people at Naughty Dog and HBO do to us? Leave this episode off at a 'CLIF-HANGER!!!'
@Scott_Burton

"What, you guys are married? I thought you were her gay best friend." 1. Humorous you actually quoted that. 2. I think it's on absolutely every sane person's relationship goals list, to find that person you can truly be blatantly yourself with. Starbucks was founded in 1971 (before i was born, but i was a baby of the 70s) made a large expansion nationwide in the 1990s and was pretty much a USA/Canada staple before 1997. As to navigating... they are using an atlas. It has at best 2 11x17 inch pages to represent each state. All the minor highways and definitely the county roads are not going to be easy to reference. Sure you can jump on state highway 94 40 miles from the city, but then you dont kniw where youre going and guessing which exits or roads will connect you back to the highway shown on the atlas. That coukd end up adding 300 miles to your trip, guessing. And then you're backtracking a lot, you don't have a source of fuel aside from other cars that *might* have gas. And you'll find a lot more cars on the majir highways than on the smaller roads. How'd you like to take a guess and then have a 20 mile hike back to your last known location? Im from the llains states (Missouri and Kansas are fairly close to where i live.) I can tell youbfrom firsthand experience, your vehicle shuts down in some places, theres not a house or a gas station within an hours walk in the real modern world. Think about a 3 day hike to find anything useful, and being without your vehicle after.

The women's bathrooms are definitely the worst. When I worked retail, there was ALWAYS a mess to clean up in the ladies' room. When we worked in office, my wife would tell me the horrors that she would walk into in the ladies' room. The puns are puntastic. Pretty sure I have that joke book, and my wife hates it. 1:36 100% calling bullshit here (maybe it's exclusive to the stadiums though) as I've worked in enough retail locations to know that the women's restroom was also the worst one to clear. The amount of hair, tampons, pads, and straight up trash just strewn about everywhere with blood just left sitting on the toilet seats is just ridiculous. I'm not even going to mention the people that shit, somehow, on the wall because that's not mutually exclusive to men or women -- both do that inane shit for some reason. The most "cleaning" I've had to do that's exclusive to the men's room has been product trash because dudes steal more (or at least women take the evidence with them) and "graffiti" aka random ass middle school poems on the stalls. ("Here I sit broken hearted, tried to shit but only farted. The other day I took a chance, tried to fart and shit my pants.") Hands down women are the worst to clean after.

The last episode had more to do with Joel's character than many realize. Even if you haven't seen him. Bill and Joel are both bitter and alone. However, the development of Bill clearly showed the differences, as one of them was willing to let a person into his life. As a result, despite the almost similar mindsets at the beginning, Bill got a long full and happy life. Joel, on the other hand, is stuck. So yes, the episode was important and not just because of the farewell letter at the end. It showed that there is hope, even if Joel doesn't have one yet. This episode showed that people are important to be happy. We are usually herd animals. As I understand it, Henry is responsible for Kathleen's brother death by betrayal. I guess he betrayed them because Fedra threatened Sam. I think Kathleen's brother was the leader of the resistance movement and she was probably the mom of the troops. That's the only reason I can imagine why the troupe follows her at all, so insecure and focused on revenge she seems. The bottom line is that she has absolutely understandable reasons. Just as good reasons as anyone else on the show and Joel wouldn't do anything else. Shows again that no group is good or bad. The only criticism so far is really the lack of brutality shown by Joel, because that is very important. Firstly, Joel was brutal and ruthless and secondly, it makes Abby more comprehensible in her actions in TLOU part 2. Which is the whole point. It's not about killing a lot of people, it's about how he does it. I think it is a mistake not to show this in all its brutality. The show still has to improve and I hope it will be later. It just has to. Btw... I still believe that Ellie pocketed the two grenades that fell at her feet when Tess had her heroic death. I think the bloater will get to eat them.

I mostly agree but lack of brutality?! In the first episode he punched someones face until it was mush and in this one is able to callously ignore someone's pleas for life and despatch them with their own knife. He's also admitted he's been on both sides of ambushes so Ellie knows how brutal he is when it comes to survival.

@@A-small-amount-of-peas It is not shown that is the problem. What Joel does so far or to what extent they are willing not to show it is out of all proportion to what will happen in part 2. But this is important, otherwise the other side will be portrayed disproportionately worse than Joel.

@@TomTomson81 you have to remember there is still 5 episodes to go, I can't really remember them showing much of how brutal Joel was when they left Lincoln in the game either, mostly self defence kills but before that it's mostly relying on stealth. I think they've done a great job so far as if you go too graphic every episode you run the risk of losing a lot of the audience by making the show a little too dark

@@A-small-amount-of-peas I talked about brutality and not about justified self-defense. And you did have brutality early on in the game. Tess executes the arms dealer. Or the scene here in the store... Ellie is attacked and Joel rams the hunter's head so hard through the table that he dies. In addition, there are slit throats. All this was visible. What do they show here? A long-range shot and an off screen kill. Joel was portrayed by Robert as brutal and terrifying. Not much of it has really been seen so far. But as I said, I'm still hoping for it. So far, I believe in a stylistic decision because it's a series. And since it's a series, it has to improve to stay interesting. So I hope that the absolute explosion of Joel will come. That it gets really hard, the more important Ellie becomes for Joel. This should then also be presented accordingly.

@@TomTomson81 I disagree I think they've done a more than adequate enough job of that after episode 1. I've played the game multiple times and honestly him killing that soldier sticks in my head more than the examples you listed from the game . I did'nt think Joel was that twisted in the game until he has to interrogate people a bit later on. Plus if they followed your advice they'd lose a lot of viewers fairly quickly, the world they've created is dark enough that it doesn't need one graphically brutal act from Joel every episode and they have plenty of time before TLOU 2 to add more. If you go too hard too fast then it kind of leaves you nowhere to go except more gruesome and that's not really necessary and will turn a lot of people off. They have to walk such a tightrope to please game fans and new fans but also appeal to people who would never watch anything based on a zombie video game. I got my own mother to watch it by deliberately not saying its based on a zombie apocalypse video game as I knew that would turn her off, she also abhors bad language but once I got her to watch the opening scene she's been hooked ever since so for that I have to give it up to Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, they've managed to get people who wouldn't normally watch this type of show as regular viewers so my hat is off to them in terms of the job they've done so far in appealing to as wide of a demographic as possible
