We've all been there: bored to death and not even close to the end of the game. What's it take for a Mario Party board to keep us engaged? Let's crunch it out.

I swear, I would KILL for a rerelease of The Landlord's Game (or whatever you called it). It sounds way more fun then Monopoly.

Well, the game's patent is long expired and everything about it is in the public domain, so practically anyone can rerelease it. Unfortunately the last commercial release performed pretty badly, I suspect for cultural reasons--TLG is a game where everybody inevitably wins at the end so long as they commit to the anti-monopolist ruleset, and most games from the last hundred years are designed to create clear losers with a lot of uncertainty right up until the last second.

@@lost-worlds Yeah, see that kinda creates the opposite problem now doesn't it? Knowing you're going to win no matter what you do is no more fun than knowing you're going to lose no matter what you do. If everyone wins so long as they play by the rules, doesn't that make victory meaningless? It's the same situation, just reversed. You may as well stop playing because you know how the game is going to turn out. I mean, why waste the time?

I think it's meant to be about the temptation: we could all play nice and win equally, but if I start to put my finger on the scale a little bit I can turn the whole game over in my favor. And while I'm thinking of doing it, I'm likely to become paranoid that the other players are planning to do the same. It's a Prisoner's Dilemma.

As someone who’s analyzed tons of MP stuff (on discord I’m not skilled enough to make YT vids) this was nice to see, it’s always cool to see someone breakdown the structure of what makes mario party fun especially it’s boards with my personal top 5 being #5. Horror Land (MP2/MPSS) #4. Western Land (MP2 shoulda been in MPSS you linear board loving pricks at NDCUBE 😠) #3. Faire Square (MP6) #2. Waluigi’s Island (MP3) #1. E. Gadds Garage (MP6)

I am sad he didn't mention Anticipation at the beginning, a game that's definatley more similair to Mario Party than the others he mentioned.

I would love to play all the other games trying to base themselves off of Mario Party and then study the original Mario Party in order to make my own version of it. Though, if you want to ask me about specific stuff about the video then you can reply to me or I can just look at something and then edit.
