I will always judge a list with a question: does it have Ari and Dante in it? I feel the person that makes the list gets me when that’s there. So far it’s almost always a yes. 😂😂😂

Some of my favorites that you didn’t mention: Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde: three friends go to a convention in LA together. Of the two mai characters, one is a fat autistic girl with anxiety and one is a bisexual Asian Australian girl, and they both have adorable romances. There’s great representation, and the book is also just really cute and nerdy and fun! Once and Future by Cori McCarthy and Amy Rose Capetta: King Arthur and Merlin in space! Merlin is mlm, Arthur gets reincarnated as a wlw refugee, and they and their friends (almost all of whom are queer, including canon nb and ace characters) take on the corrupt capitalist dystopia government! And the authors are married! The Lost Coast by Amy Rose Capetta: queer witches in the California redwoods! Also, Amy Rose Capetta might be one of my favorite authors now.

It's been several years since I read it but I really enjoyed Annie on My Mind. I think it was one of the first books (if not the first) that featured a same-gender couple that actually had a happy ending. WLW realistic fiction, it was great.

There’s Maurice, which was not only published in 1971, but written during WW1. I've only heard of it, but I’m planning on reading just for the history. It’s also by EM Forster, so it’ll probably still be good.

I'd recommend We Are The Ants by Sean David Hutchenson. It's a YA contemporary with a dash of sci fi. The main character is dealing with depression, bullying and his boyfriend's suicide so it's not the lightest book ever (tw for attempted rape) but I adored Henry as a character in this book. If you like darker YA contemporary I'd recommend this one. I also loved We Are Okay by Nina Lacour. Our main character is a sapphic girl who moved across the country after a major shake up in her family life. She deals with grief and depression. This one was also really well done and a super quick read. I just finished Autoboyography by Christina Lauren the other day and it's also amazing. It follows Tanner a bi dude just trying to make it through his last semester of high school in his EXTREMELY Mormon town but a complication arises when he falls for the bishop's son. The romance in this one was amazing 5/5. But what I really lived about this book was the exploration of the intersection between sexuality and religion. If your looking for an adult book to read I'd recommend This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel. It follows the mother of a trans little girl and how she and their entire family navigate the world. What I like about this novel is despite the serious and sometimes heartbreaking subject matter this book has an overall positive tone. I wouldn't say it skirts around the realities of transphobia but it does overall have a heart warning and positive tone. And after reading so many books about depressed queer kids a little hope is appreciated

Fans of the impossible life is a really good book. It's mainly about mental health and finding your identity, but one of the characters is gay and this plays a big role in his story. And it's just a very good book that gives a very good picture of what it's like to struggle growing up. And it's really good. Did I say it's really good? I really love this book.

The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza, We Are The Ants, and/or The Edge Of The Universe by Shaun David Hutcherson. All three feature a not straight protagonist, a romance, and hopefulness in an apocalypse? I guess. It's not a series, but there's a cameo at one point of another book. Some warnings for not great mental health stuff, depression, etc. Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. Fake friends into secret romance. Very cute, made me cry at one point, features the son of the first female president and a prince of England. Everything Leads to you and/or You Know Me Well by Nina Lacour (and David Leviathin in the second) Both feature wlw relationships, the second also has a mlm relationship and they're very cute, nothing too heavy. Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins. Boarding school roommates, enemies to lovers, reads like a very cute and well written fanfic. The Weight Of the Stars by K. Ancrum. wlw, space, and secrets. Check Please by Ngozi Ukazu. mlm, hockey, graphic novel. Ive only read the first of the series but I think it might be free online somewhere? I got it from my library. You do not need to know anything about hockey, and if youre like me, it might leave you liking hockey.

I remember finding Drama and getting to the part where that dude wore a dress and kisses the prince (i can't remember their names sorry lol) i showed my mom that scene while i laughed. I also haven't read trials of Apollo yet and I'm terrified but not in a bad way lol. Also, also i once read a book and it's still currently my fav but it had a gay guy named Andrew and a bisexual man who's name was Jamison or Jamie i think. The story takes place in an apocalyptic scenario and i found it to be adorable but also kind of depressing at parts, def recommend, the name of the book is All that's left in the world. Anyways thanks for reading this, have a nice day.

Ohh i think i have another one for kids! And middle school age too. It’s a comic. Short but sweet: The tea dragon society by katie o neill Cute and set in a fantasy world with tiny dragons with tea leaves growing out of their horns. 4 of the main characters are queer. Both young girls- who have such a sweet interactions and their mentors,(who are teaching them the act of raising tea dragons) two senior men who are basically married. One is disabled. Its one of my favorite books and the art is wonderful. Also the author has another comic - Aquicorn cove- fantasy still but deals with issues like ocean pollution. There’s ocean magic and underwater realms. The main character’s aunt is in love with the queen of the sea. It’s great.

To rec a few: 'Proud' - a collection of stories edited by Juno Dawson 'Pulp' - by Robin Talley 'Out of the Blue' - by Sophie Cameron 'They Both Die at the End' - by Adam Silvera 'Mosh Pit' - by Kristyn Dunnion Also for graphic novels: 'Gumballs' by Erin Nations 'Spinning' by Tillie Walden 'SuperMutant Magic Academy' by Jillian Tamaki and even though they're not strictly YA, I definitely recommend Becky Chambers sci-fi books 'The Long Way to a Small and Angry Planet' and 'A Closed and Common Orbit' Also, not completely LGBT+, but 'The Secret Loves of Geek Girls' and 'The Secret Loves of Geeks' features queer folks essays/comics in these anthologies on what fandom/media/characters mean to them.

Some great ones there, and some more to go on my list! I'm not 100% sure it's YA and you didn't mention sci fi, but have you read the Wayfarers books, starting with The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet? Slice-of-life sci fi! Really well-developed alien cultures! Fantastic characters! And basically queerness all through the entire series, main characters, side characters, background characters, it's rad as hell. The other two books do come off the first one, so reading it first will definitely enhance the story, but they can technically stand alone too. Also, novelette I read recently which was CUTE AS HELL, The Cybernetic Tea Shop. Adorable romance between a human and a robot! Both are ace WLW, including the human character! (Okay there is some ace rep around but like. A lot of them are robots or aliens. I was very excited to find a human ace character.) And just sweet as heck.

One of my favorite queer books is We Are The Ants by Shawn David Hutchison It’s weird, it has aliens, angst, but most importantly it’s an amazing story that has a gay lead and it’s not about him coming out. (Nothing wrong with coming out stories, just a nice change) I actually recommend all of Shawn’s books, I believe there is a queer character in every single one. May not be the protagonist but they’re there.

lots of good shit on this list!! a few of my favorites that arent in here 1: tell me again how a crush should feel by sara farizan. a gay persian-american high school girl, leila, whos trying to come out while also dealing with her crush on a new girl (fair warning, her relationship with the girl turns out pretty toxic and it might be tough to read, but in the end leila gets a happy ending). deals realistically with coming out and just... being a gay teen? but still has a very happy ending, just one that made me cry along the way. 2: carry on by rainbow rowell. harry potter if harry was bi, draco was a gay vampire, they were roommates, and it actually acknowledged how terrible of a person dumbledore was! in all seriousness, theres a really cool magic system in play here and the main relationship is all the enemies to friends to lovers goodness you could ask for, plus i think they do cool things with the girl the boys are "supposed" to fight over. really good stuff, plus its getting a sequel! last one i cant count because i dont remember a lot of details. it was about a queer (bi i think?? definitely not straight) latina teenager whos part of a family of witches and has to go on a whole adventure to save her family. its a modern fantasy book? i believe it was the first book of a series? it might have been called bruja? idk but it was good, so i'll leave it here in case anyone has the title/author

I will ALWAYS recommend Pantomime by Laura Lam, I've only read the first one so far but it's kinda historical fantasy-ish from what I recall. Micah is an intersex person who was raised female but then disguises themself as a boy to run away with the circus (!!!!) and I'm pretty sure has relationships with both men and women, depending on how they (Micah) are presenting themself. Lam actually lost her(?) publisher between the second and third books so the last one was delayed but I'm pretty sure it's been out a while now, I've just not got around to getting them all yet. also I recently read What if it's Us which was pretty sweet, very realistic contemporary story of two boys who meet by chance and forget to exchange numbers so then one of them finds the other by leaving a 'were you the one I met at the post office?' in a coffee shop it's VERY musical theatre-y, the title is taken from the lyrics of a Dear Evan Hansen song, and there's mentions of Hamilton too and the Art of Being Normal I think was the first book I read about a trans person, and I liked it a whole lot, also can't remember much of it but it was (from what I recall) a realistic contemporary story too

The Captive Prince trilogy is nice (the author is a bisexual woman), and also the All for the Game trilogy (author is an asexual woman). Both trilogies have some triggers, so check them out before reading. @@fandommusings5302 Hey! I really really hate being negative on such a sweet video, but I seriously wouldn't recommend Captive Prince. A master/slave romance is an iffy subject already, but the book itself is steeped in the author's racism (she claims that the slave MC is Mediterranean, I think Greek or Italian, and not a man of color, but very explicitly describes him with very dark skin not just tan white skin, while his master is a feminine, pretty, often described as pale and white blonde prince) and a clear fetishizing of MLM rather than the genuine love and respect that the books on this list show. The author has even admitted to writing it because she sees M/M as a sexual space for her and other women -- and yeah, it definitely is true in fandom, but speaks volumes about what she thinks of MLM relationships. I won't stop you from deciding yourself on it or anything, but to me, it really sucks to see it recced alongside books by women that portray MLM realistically and with genuine heart.

Oh I love the Prince and the Dressmaker. Here's some more queer comic reccomendations: Bloom written by Kevin Panetta, illustrated by Savanna Ganucheau. It's about a greek teenage boy whose parents run a bakery. He falls for the boy they hire to help the family business. Also general coming of age stuff. Art's gorgeous. Fence written by C. S. Pacat and drawn by Johanna the Mad. Fencing and queer characters. It's more about the sport than relationships so far but it's fun. Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Autobiographical comic. It's about her life as a lesbian and her relationship with her father. It's also a musical now apparently? This is for adults really bit it's good.

I don't have enough experience with it to really pick a favourite queer YA novel, but I did enjoy Otherbound by Corrine Duyvis and one of it's two protagonists is bisexual - Back when I was growing up it felt more like 'there's children and there's adult and maybe if you're lucky you can find 'teen fiction' aimed at 13-14 year olds but there's nothing labelled inbetween' (I've seen a couple of things from the 80s where if it had come out today would have probably been YA but... Marketed as adult fiction because YA didn't really exist back then) so I don't have as much experience with the genus as I would like. Any chance of doing this for disability representation in YA, since, well, the only good autism representation I've ever seen is in YA (On the Edge of Gone, also by Corrine Duyvis) meaning I didn't really know what representation actually felt like until I was in my early 30s, yaaaay - I'd just thought it was 'I'm a white guy, I'm the default' rather than 'Nothing's really been written with an explicitly autistic protagonists by an openly autistic author' prior to that.

I was so surprised when you got to the children's books like "these exist? O.o" I live in hungary and last year a book called something like fairytail land is everyone's (idk if it has an english title so that's just my translation) came out and it was a collection of folktales but it's main characters were replaced with people from different minority groups, and there was a gay prince in one of them or something, so a young right wing politician thought it would be a great idea to publicly put it in a paper shredder while talking shit about an oppressed group, then post it on the internet, wich resulted in it becoming a big topic and later on a bestseller. It backfired but there were still a big drama sorrounding it and there were people out there saying stuff like "it's more dangerous than the virus" and some even protested aganist it, so when you just pulled out like four picture books solely about lgbtq+ storyes, I felt how distant america really is from us. There are a lot places worse than my country, and america too is only slowly making developmens, but it still hit me hard that why I see so much positive stuff about lgbtq+ people is because I seek them on the internet and I hardly ever see anything outside of america so when it (rarely) becomes a topic in my country, and I get a better view on our own condition, I see how bad it is compered to america, and how distant that world really is from us, even when most of our entratainment and modern culture comes from them. Sometimes the internet and media makes it easy to forget where I really am, and then it just hits me like a truck...
