discord.gg/gZ3QHzJ INFPs are a great personality type. I love the way their mind works and I also deeply relate. For those INFPs out there, I hope I did your type justice. If I failed to deliver on any aspect, please let me know in the comments. I always read all and if one is especially insightful, I will pin it so others can find it more easily.

Would be interesting if people could comment saying what jobs they have as an INFP? I think our personality type means we normally look for jobs that are meaningful and where we feel like we can make a difference. I am studying marine biology at the moment and would love to be a research scientist finding ways to help our oceans. What do you guys do? X

I'm a 2D graphic artist right now (for video games), aiming to be a writer! 😊 In the past, I wanted to be a talk therapist, but soon realized the mental/emotional stress would probably be too much for me to handle. Then I'd wanted to get into Human Resources...until I learned that they work for the company and not the employees. (I thought I'd be trained to sort out discrepancies/ unfair treatment, that sort of thing!) So you're definitely onto something about wanting to make a difference! Marine biology sounds so amazing, I love oceans and sea life! I hope you do well! 🌊🐟💙

@@Lynn-ee9hq That's really interesting. I myself was very fascinated with the thought of being a personal therapist/counselor at one point in time, but I also concluded that my own emotional health would likely decline as a result. Currently I work at a restaurant, to challenge my social abilities, and put me in a position where I can serve people (customers and coworkers alike). Although, career-wise, I want to get involved with a graphic design team in the future.

I went to college for pharmacy tech after a life long desire to help people.. I worked for only 5 years in the field and the lack of care in healthcare broke me. 3 years at a methadone clinic was tiresome... 2 years at shoppers drug mart and thats the job that broke me. 191 patients i took care of making blisters packages. I would call them to check up when meds changed and when loved ones passed... Doing this i was reprimanded for making the others look bad.... Thats lame. The field is missing quality and compassion... I had a mental breakdown trying to change people that refuse to change. I am now on disability and i have started on a spiritual journey trying to find a place i belong.

For me as an INFP I don't like to, "show off," but rather, enjoy sharing things I've discovered and am excited about. For me new ideas, or discoveries are better when I can share with someone I can have a deep discussion with.

That's how I feel - for instance, if I notice a connection between something I'm told and some random bit of knowledge kicking around in my noggin, I might find that exciting and want to share that excitement - I suppose someone else might see it as 'showing off', particularly if they have no interest in anything other than, oh, how to make a buck.

As an INFP-A, i pretty much stop thinking about if i'm showing off when i share stuff. I say what i wanna say & do what i wanna do when the situation feels right for it. If the other party or someone else thinks i'm showing off, too bad for them. The only thing i keep in mind when doing so is to not go overboard with it.

As a INTP this makes me really confused, could you try and explain what feelings are?. I have a theory, could it be that you have so many sensory inputs for feeling sensory that it is your main source of flow rather then anything els, hence it becomes reality rather then something that you can be emotional about. For example your 4th sensory is thinking whitch is extroverted is direct and blunt like feelings appear to be for me, is it because we have less sensory input for them but with much increased sensitivity to compensate?... My theory comes from receptor uptake from eating certain foods contaning different compounds like dopamine, seretonin, glutamine etc these factors also plays a big role how you operate in accordance with your bodily functions, stress levels, feeling relaxed, jittery, calm, etc.. i see a correlation.. sry this got messy fast, I find ISFP very interesting as you are pretty much the opposite to what i'am. Love it 😊
@FalconWindblader
@FalconWindblader 4 года назад
@@franklogrim8510 Gut feelings in short. We develop pretty much a gut feeling to just about everything around us & in us, & sometimes we could get very intense about it. Come to think of it, the feeling is actually more like thoughts that we have no words for, at least at the moment, instead of plain emotions. Everything might be disconnected pieces but somehow, we just kinda be able to tell that the connections are there. What we kinda find frustrating is that these thoughts are often subjective until thoroughly processed, & hell, they might not even appear logical!
@aja8505
@aja8505 4 года назад
Falcon Windblade omg, that was spot on - you described in words how I’ve felt my whole life and have had difficulty identifying the “feeling” or just a plain “knowing” how all the pieces connect and fit together and then on top of that have a very difficult time finding the words to articulate it. So a lot of times I end up sounding like an idiot to people - which I definitely am not, yet, I can understand why they would think that - because if I can’t describe or identify in words how I’m feeling or thinking to them, then they just don’t take me seriously. since their minds aren’t thinking like mine, they definitely don’t understand what’s going on in my head and kinda dismiss me which can be extremely frustrating especially when I KNOW I have a grasp on the situation - usually more so than them

As an INFP, I've found that it's really difficult to talk to people about what is going on in my head, just because it's lessened by words. Steven King summarizes this really well in the following quote: "The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them - words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they’re brought out. But it’s more than that, isn’t it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you’ve said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That’s the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear."
@lak3684

Great quote (I have all his books, organized on the same shelf, by height, near my pile of laundry). I find myself expressing a lot of emotional stuff in a monotone voice, because I know the listener will never really get how debilitating something actually is to me. Little things even. I recently got into an emotional tizzy over coffee grounds on the kitchen counter. There wasn't enough words to express the intensity inside. How could I say "This mess seems like a passive-aggressive attack, which I know may escalate into a fight, also this is showing a total lack of respect for me and my space and hurts my feelings, and I'm afraid to confront the situation because that reminds me of an abusive father figure and raises a lot of fearful feelings inside." How could I possibly say "This spilled coffee causes me intense fear, anxiety, hurts my feelings, and makes me feel disrespected," and ever expect that listener to really understand the turmoil inside? What I said instead of all that? "You have to go."

One thing about many INFP's is that we combine our love of humanity and our optimism into something that many people see as a negative thing: advocating for social change. We don't necessarily see it as complaining because we tend to believe that, if you say something about what you notice is wrong, *eventually* things will change. If an INFP stops talking about how we can improve in any way, it's probably because they've gone into a dark place in their minds and have lost hope that the people they are talking to will listen or care.

Maybe if I lived alone in the hinterland 80% of my time I would be happy, but currently I just feel like almost everyone is crushing my dreams and thinking I am stupid because my weaknesess (lack of focus on mundane tasks, lack of orientation and lack of hard cold logic), not many people is aware of my strengths. Hi I can fully relate to what you wrote down here. This what you wrote, it is present every day at my work. I'm a software engineer. Even trying to explain it to others are efforts in vain. What's more, because they don't understand, they can't formulate strategies to help you with it. Ultimately, we're expected to resolve these issues ourselves, even though they're consequences of natural personality, which is one of the hardest if not outright impossible to change. I'm a person who tried changing himself to fit the stereotype of unhealthy expectations. I recommend you TRY the same. I have not fully succeeded because the expectations are unsustainable, but some things got better. People at work even regarding their intelligence levels still can't really wrap their heads around it. As such, I'm a threat to them because I seem unpredictable. Enter, Political games. I keep having to disarm myself, which is how I got better. Instead of actually helping to resolve misunderstandings, I'm now only defusing the situation. I wish I could help like a normal human being, but they make it impossible to communicate. That's of course also a decrepit on my side. But that side is only natural! In personal life, I find being patient works best. Other people do want to listen, but they simply don't understand immediately. I realised its impossible to translate a natural point of view (due to personality) to another who has not yet acquired wisdom in that way of reasoning. You HAVE to tell them the fundamentals of your point of view first. You can't do that immediately, because they'll shut down due to information overload. We INFPs like to dream after all. That's just a romantic way of saying that we like to oversee the possibilities that come as a result of correlating our experiences. Fi + Ne. What I'm trying to get at is, I'm not sure why you wrote this, and I'm to tell you that you can resolve ALL these problems by gathering people who are patient enough to keep listening to you. That's also part on you! At some point they'll get it, and you can pick up speed when it comes to conversation. Its a two way street. You adapt yourself too. In my opinion, that is the healthiest way to approach it. I'm open to alternatives though.

I have often thought about this. Being an INFP is challenging already -- other types have a hard time understanding us, our motivations and reactions. But when you add gender into the mix, it takes it to a whole new level. I feel like a lot of INFP traits and behaviors are often viewed as feminine. Especially the traits I align with -- imaginative, sensitive, day-dreamy, etc. Being female myself, I fit into this "mold" and so I'm not rebuked (too many times at least). If I was a guy, I can only imagine the flack I'd get from everyone. I think it would crush my spirit. I feel for you and other male INFPs out there. Stay strong!

I’m an infp and I agree with what the general premise of your statement. Unfortunately there is one person I truly hate. Only one. Funny thing is when I let the few people I felt comfortable enough to tell them what he did, which were literally only 3 people ever. I would brag in a way like if this had happened to anyone else they would have serious problems. Little did I know, that, that person, my first stepdad, had in fact effected me greatly. The abuse was from ages 5 through 8. Spent those years moving from apartment to apartment with my mother and older sister. He physically and mentally destroyed all of us many many times. Anyways, my mom ended up marrying someone new, and I moved to upstate New York. Lived pretty normally. Little did I know, all the pain and struggles, anxiety, depression, near death experiences I went through later on in life were because of that one man. Didn’t realize that I had never moved on mentally, I had never moved on in a sense, from an 8 year old boy. I’m now 33. I have much discuss about what it’s like to be an infp and the very complicated struggle of have fi at the top of your stack. I’ve found that a common struggle is that literally every decision you make, both major and minor, are so hard to make because you feel every decision you make is a direct reflection on who you are at the core of your being lol.

I've been married to an INFP (me*INFJ) FOR 50 years. She has developed into the most tender hearted creature on earth. It took us 25 years to understand how to be useful and good to each other. My 55 year COUNSELING career was built on using TYPE as the platform for every one of my 10,000+ clients and the once of them helped me understand the excellence of my wife's TYPE. We've been able to reach FULLNESS in our relationship and become soulmates! Yes, we INFPs are highly philosophical, because we aim and need to bring all the aspects of our reality together, the ideals we have and our understanding of present "hard" reality, the what we wish that is possible and what we know is actually the case. The stereotype that INFPs are just in the clouds without any understanding of "pragmatic" truth....no, we know the world sucks, but we also know that things could and should be better! Thanks for making this. I don't feel the love sometimes toward my type, and feel they get centered out kind of disproportionately in sketches. They get depicted as being invisible, or not capable of handling much. Well I haven't exactly had an easy life and I'm still standing and have never given up. We are way stronger than people give us credit for. Yes we feel very deeply, and do cry a lot when alone, but that doesn't mean we can't roll with the punches. I agree with a lot of what you said here about our functions. Yeah that 4th slot Te can be blunt in us at times, and doesn't care much for protocol just for the sake of it if it doesn't make sense to us. I tend to get a bit tripped up by hearing, "What if I'm only feeling this because I'm sympathizing with someone else, how do I know if it's really me or not?" I always know the differance due to leading with Fi, so I feel there is a disconnect at times with me and some people. I also tend to run into walls when people favor black and white thinking over subjective circumstances. One size does not fit all, but when I say, "but that doesn't make sense. Why would I do it?" I can end up with a blank stare, or sometimes people thinking I am a T type, but I don't mean "making sense" from that perspective as much as an ethical one, or one of long term sustainability for a community, the environment, or for myself.

I can get into a terrible push/pull between wanting to save them, yet knowing I can't, and knowing I am idealizing and projecting, and I need to cut it out because its... slimy.

Where your own understanding improves over time, other people's understanding of the emotions will not. Only 1.5% (male) and 2.5% (female) of the population naturally are INFP. That means over 96% will stay somewhat behind in this understanding. Can you imagine how lonely it would feel if there's nobody to share your insights with? @m. I've been in codependent (optomistic) relationships and I did the same - basically just trying to understand WHY they behaved that way (which I found easy to understand). Then help them. But I think the negative aspect for that for me was that I've never been good at recognising the point when that person no longer wanted to be helped. I did feel a victim when things went badly, but that's because of my own childhood traumas which I hadn't quite resolved - so I had a victim mentality towards life stressors in general. I recognised this in me as well as my partner, so despite being upset I also would quickly go back to trying to make it better for us by solving the underlying trauma for us both, staying in relationships that ended up being unhealthy. I hear that staying in bad relationships too long tends to be an infp trait, and for me, that's probably one big reason why.

Forth xx I've always known I was sensitive but I'm only just realising just how much my emotions fluctuate depending on what I'm exposed to :) But on the upside, I think it also amplifies our ability to see patterns. I often find myself knowing what the social consequence of a decision will be, but don't realise that other people aren't seeing the same patterns that I can see - if I voice concerns, others think I sound really left-field; it's only by waiting it out (at least a few months) that people finally process and arrive at the same thing, by which time they've forgotten that I already said that months ago *gahhh* lol.

You are right about the guttural reactions and the internal cognitive functions. I think this area of how the body communicates to us should be explored more because I get the majority of my instincts (wisdom, guidance) from internal sensate forms of intelligence and it can seem that I’m psychic to some people at times but it’s really just a sensate physiological intelligence at work, observing, studying, organizing, evaluating and then deciding when my body decides to... 😃💗 Happy day 💫💎💗 And there is so much more to Fi, it’s an entire world 🌍

I agree too. As I have gotten older I have sadly realised my parents never viewed me as an individual and my feelings were always denied in place of putting on appearances. I always told myself I was loved as a child because the reality was too painful to process at that age, but the gut feeling something was wrong never went away. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and eventually had emergency surgery to remove my colon. I have learned to trust my feelings by now. Sorry to hijack but I really identified with what you wrote.

3:00 wow. One of the most eye opening experiences as an Infp was when I worked with an ill convicted murderer admitted at a hospital. After a few days of interaction, I remembered him calling me over to thank me. I didn't expect that response, so I asked him what he was thanking me for. The reply "for treating me like a human being, " was really moving. A simple greeting and light conversation go a long way.

Thank you so much for this! :) I'm an INFP who's always struggled to understand my personality. (I could easily 'get' anyone around me, but rarely felt as if I was being understood in return.) To this day, I can't really define myself. I can look at my best friend and say she's goofy, short tempered, tomboy-ish, extremely caring, and adventurous. Others could probably picture someone right away! But I could never find words that sounded accurate for me. I'm shy but I don't appear to be (as in, I can smile easily, make small talk, laugh/joke around, and actively listen to whatever is being said.) I'm not an intellectual by any stretch, and yet people always tell me I sound intelligent; plus I love political, metaphysical, and philosophical discussions! ...and already, I've run out words to use lol. The INFP is such a great short-cut to not only learn more about who I am, but also to see these traits come together and actually sound like a person! I adore being creative, (Writing/drawing are my passions. I love meeting and speaking to other creative types as well!) and that bit about not sharing ideas easily or often...10000%! I will sit on a project or book I've been working on for months or even years before telling my BFF about it. Meanwhile, she'll readily share her new stuff with me! (She may be an ENFP now that I think about it...I should have her take the test!) Thank you, again! Where have you been all my life? 😄💛

I think they’ll be like 💯 I would like to add for the INFP‘s out there that are maybe 30 & younger… in this a typical country & the world (& many homes) you may feel like you don’t have a place yet, but you do - you really really do, so delve in & learn more about yourself as much as possible & bring that amazing light forward… don’t let anybody change your autonomy or authenticity & if that means looking stubborn about it then so be it! Be you ♥️

The beginning also, I loved it, haha! Alright, one more thing as an INFP I would like to share if someone relates, I am usually INERT about things; life and everything around me. Even if it is the best feeling ever. For example: even if something is my habit and gives me joy I can still quit it. Always connected yet not attached. When extroverted thinking works, it really does work, for example, I can be blunt about things and values that I choose and respect. I can listen to you all day but don't tell tell me about my life because I know what I have to do with my life and I am what I am. Although sometimes it can be too much, haha.
