Please make a video on how to improve mobility such as scap retraction, t spine extension etc. Even though people like Jacob Degrom has insane mobility I feel like normal people can get into deep positions too.

Great video dude. Your breakdown of his fastball and what makes fastballs very good was super well done, the comparisons with Hader and Burnes really helps contextualize his skillset really well. Thanks for putting this out.

Great video, never knew that! I'm short so theoretically I should have good approach angle but I have like an average stride and monkey arms so I have a very downwards trajectory. I think I need to work on my stride then maybe dropping arm angle. I mean it doesnt matter much but I want to get better in men's league :)

7:51 Where did you find these vertical break numbers? I've been researching about it fr awhile and Statcast never listed Josh Hader's Vertical break being anywhere close to as high as 17.6. Also, I thought a lower number in vertical break meant less inches of drop & more rise

Does the spin rate affect how the ball comes off the bat in a bad or good way for the pitcher?
@treadathletics

Great question. I don't know.
@el_duderino_man
@el_duderino_man 3 года назад
@@treadathletics From personal experience, I had a long time teammate pitcher who threw low spin rate two seamers which makes the ball feel heavy and dead when you hit the ball. The high spin four seam pitches, similar in velocity, would launch long and feel light off the bat. I do not know the science behind the phenomenon.

Tunneling and spin rates, interesting! How about he commands his fastball and throws a good number two pitch? When you throw that hard and can locate it, with a little movement you will be successful. People have jobs today that never played due to this made up profession of statistics on each aspect of the game. Tell me what statistic is measurable when you go one for three the night before, get hit by 97 in the arm, get jammed by a 83 mph slider and the web of your top hand is swollen, and you travel 12 hours by bus to arrive 1 hour before game time to hit some lefty throwing 94-96 with little command, who also slept in his bed last night!

Well I hate to rain on the parade, but as a former college pitcher, literally every pitcher uses pine tar or some sticky stuff in college baseball. He may not, but in my expierience having played with multiple draft picks, they told me they all use pine tar to make their stuff nastier. Especially because the mindset it "get paid first." Once they get paid is when they figure out how to adjust to not being able to use certain things so easily. some of them even used illegal steroid like supplements bc they needed only a few more MPH to go D1, or get drafted higher, or even just be seen by the scouts. And then they'd stop before the season and maintain the muscle and by the time the draft rolled around they were clean and didn't care they cheated because as one of my good friends put it "I fuckin hate baseball, I only play because I am good and am gonna get paid."

How about fixing all of those kids that throw just as hard, that don’t have this kids command, blood line, and opportunities into studs. That is the problem, it is easy to spit out stats but, when PG/PBR promotes a kid throwing gas with no clue, scouts love the gun but, can’t fix him. Leiter is easy to project, he is a refined product. Show me a kid that throws just as hard, never been taught, that an organization turned into something special. We are spoiled today with all of the velocities coming out of kids these days, the problem is very few can show them how to pitch, remain healthy, and become successful. 20 years ago, 90 mph made scouts salivate, now they yawn at such a gun reading, but give me the 90 with command, a number 2 and possible 3 pitch any day over the 95+ clueless kid, because I know someone taught the first kid and we will never have enough time to fix the bonus baby but, he will get the most opportunities and the other kid will be working at Walmart in a few years.
@treadathletics
@treadathletics 2 года назад
Good points - the ability to pitch is always necessary as well! I mentioned that in the end of the video.
@dundalis
@dundalis 2 года назад
The idea that you can just show this to a 20 year old and that will help them fix their motion and command is kinda ignoring how difficult it is, to actually replicate with consistent repetition which is all that matters. I would think most kids that come through with the knowledge how to pitch with good delivery and command got taught good habits from the age of like 10 or 11 or younger. Starting from 20 you are just highly unlikely to ever catch up. This is the same with technique from lots of sports, the kids that get into good habits super young are always going to be way ahead of the guy that doesn’t learn good technique till they are an adult except for that rare athlete who just has incredible adaptive learning skills and work ethic (that rare athlete that just improves out of sight but they typically have a rare ability to learn and incorporate new skills at light speed which you can’t teach)
