Hello and welcome to TheDriveGuyde! This is a new channel aspiring to create quality car reviews for the Canadian car market. My name is Max Landi and I am TheDriveGuyde!
Today, I have the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport. Equipped with a manual transmission and a fizzy little engine, this is a taste of what is to come in Hyundai's future! The N Performance division and the launch of the first N product is something I am watching closely! This front wheel drive economy car offers a lot of tech but is it enough to beat out its competitors such as the Ford Focus, Chevy Cruze, VW Golf, Mazda3 and the Honda Civic.
Please like, comment and share this video with others, it would be greatly appreciated!

Absolutely love mine. Comparable performance to the Civic Sport, Jetta GLI, and just about anything else comparable. With a bonus of not having to look at the hideous Civic, or the milktoast Jetta

Civic looks better and the quality is second to none

I am currently cross shopping the two. I think the quality of the elantra is on par with the civic. civic definitely performs better with fuel economy, although you need premium in the sport trim. main problem I have with the civic is that you can only get the manual with the lower trims. that's annoying.

Nice review... But I never understood why people will criticize materials in a cheap car... Obviously if they spent more money it could have better materials... But then it wouldn't cost what the car does... I love my Elantra sport with tech package. I knew what the car was when I bought it, not expecting it to be something it's not. Well worth what Hyundai is asking. Good luck getting other cars out there loaded like this one for the same price point. Paid 18 With incentives... Sticker was 26... But it's well worth the 26 also
@fuguf1sh
@fuguf1sh 7 лет назад
Because $26K is not exactly cheap. Not too much to ask for upper door panels that don't abrade your skin.
@mustangGT375
@mustangGT375 7 лет назад
fuguf1sh again, yes your correct, 26k isn’t cheap, I for one didn’t pay even close to that if your a smart shopper.... but non the less, I feel that what for what I paid, it’s perfectly fine. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into.. yes they could have upgraded interior pieces, but then the price point would have been higher...

Dude you are 100% correct. Buying a hyundai without incentives is nuts in my opinion, they have some of the most agressive incentive programs compared to japanese or euro brands. If you like a manual transmission ( lowers msrp) and dont need the sunroof package and get 2500.00 U.S. plus sometimes 0% financing as well as other incentives for students or vets etc you get A SHIT TON of car for 20k US. My hyundai dealer is SUPER aggressive and will give way more the what a car is worth on the street for trade in which also lessons your taxes at the same time. Once you add the agressive factory and dealer incentives along with Hyundais overall improvements over the years you can not find a better value car then this elantra as an all rounder that wont bore you to death driving , with an MT anway. Personally i have NO issue with the interior quality for the class and think people are obsessed with soft touch its not a merc or a roller. I do wish you could get the upgraded sound/nav without getting the package at a reasonable price. I never want a glass roof.

Rudy Tanelo Ruxy I was gonna order a manual without the tech pack, but i ended up test driving the auto with tech pack, I was very impressed with the 7spd auto, much much much better than fords duel clutch. But once I drove the car, I knew I wanted it and my dealer hooked me up.
@mustangGT375

And just to give u guys an eye opener on incentives and prices... my car has the 7spd auto with tech package with sun roof, sticker was 26.... with incentives and my dealer taking car of me, I paid 20 OTD including the extended 10 year 100k mile warranty and also, dent, tire, windshield warranty. To me; that’s worth every penny.

I end up getting an 18 wit the dual clutch transmission. No complaints so far. Love the peppy lil engine.

It does have a 'sport mode', it's only offered with the DCT variant.

I own one of these fully loaded with the available tech package. I must say he gave an excellent description and opinion about this car. I feel almost the same way about this car. It's a little fun to drive car. There are some down sides: firmer suspension, somewhat unpleasant road noises on highways, tighter back seats and some hard plastics around the cabin. Nonetheless, if you can deal with those minor issues, this is a great car to drive around. Not so slow, not so super fast but a fun car to drive around. I personally think it's a great option to consider when one is in the market for an economy, practical, inexpensive and fun to drive car. Great job on the review!

Cool review, love the word Twisties lol! Cool review though, I think Hyundai (hun-day lol) hit all the right spots to give people good performance, for value. They give you enough features that you don't have to feel like you settled if you buy the base model.

Here's a tip for your next video: maybe WASH the car. Also, I have to disagree with the comment about road noise. Being a Lyft driver, I've had multiple comments about how nice and quiet it is and people falling asleep and saying how comfortable/smooth it is.

I have the scarlet red 6 speed one i did was make sure the tires are at 33psi vs the 50 psi from the dealer make difference in the ride also i used 93 octane fuels and a k&n filter and resonator delete for $20.00 for just for kicks . The sound from the car is almost unheard from the inside but everyone can hear a nice low tone outside .. it is my daily drive 50% city 50% highway and I get 29.5 per gallon really fun car in the turns and comes alive from 2k up to 6k rpm best part is it have not seen alot of this car at all and sometime people ask what it is and think is was a Audi or bwm from the side xd

After driving the SI, I disagree with most all of the Honda fanboys. The rev hang is terrible and reason alone I won't buy one. You're crazy to not consider the Elantra Sport if you're looking at the SI. I will say the Si seats, steering, and suspension were great. Too bad it's ruined by lack of bottom end and rev hang for days.

Mike StClair To be fair you could tune those problems away...but then Honda will take away your warranty 😅
@Stclairm1
@Stclairm1 7 лет назад
thehollowlingwin Yea, who all can tune it already? As long as it's easy to return to stock, not a bad idea. We already own a 17 EXL turbo, so Im not a Honda hater.

Never really found rev-hang that big of an issue. I think within a week I already adapted my daily driving. just slow down your clutch uptake in day to day driving and it's smooth as butter. The only real time I notice it and can't avoid it is 8 tenths driving and. in that situation, the other characteristics (steering, suspension, and the LSD) IMO put it ahead of the elantra. and really if you push the car to that degree, I think a rough shift is not really the priority at that moment. Just my thoughts on it. It's definitely there, but I don't see it a deal breaker (and you should drive a wrx to experience what REAL rev-hang feels like, it's much worse than the si)

Nice review Max! It has occurred to me over the years and countless reviews that everything is a trade-off. One must consider the intent of a vehicle then consider the ways the manufacturer has solved various problems to achieve their goals. For instance, certain materials used can be considered cheap in comparison to other vehicles however there is a weight trade-off. This car could have many more comfort or luxury features and materials but then the complaints would be that the car is too heavy or sluggish etc. As it is, Hyundai used additional sound dampening to ensure this veicle still maintains a semblance civility on the road. Then there are factors that are purely subjective; interior and exterior styling is one example, but that extands also to overall feel of the drive and handling. I've heard opinions regarding the sound of the car but this sound is different from interior sound and exterior sound. The exterior exhaust note of this car is quite nice and aggressive, almost like a European vehicle, yet Hyundai has managed to dampen this a little from inside. In the upper rev range the driver will definitely know this is a sport focused vehicle. The sport suspension and performance tires also cause some interior noise but that is to be expected; again this is a 'sport' model, not a base Elantra and that is the trade-off. Before I bought mine (Elantra Sport), I considered the cost/benefit ratio - features performance etc. This car far exceeds what you get from other cars at this price point. As for performance, this car is very fun to drive with formidable stock acceleration. Add an aftermarket performance chip (which I've done and this car easily out performs the VW 210 hp Jetta 2.0L turbo which is always mentioned in comparison, but prices start at around 28k for that vehicle and prices begin to climb quickly when addition options are applied. Once again gives the Elantra S a significant advantage in terms of cost/benefit ratio. The sport tuned suspension with independent rear suspension is very comfortable, not overly sprung, yet provides exceptional stability and control in the twisties. It stands to reason, if one wants a more compliant ride, then they are not going to get the performance. The reason i am compelled to share so many thoughts after your comprehensive review is that when presenters share their thoughts, they often criticize various aspects by failing to remind the viewer why it is not a negative, inasmuch as a compromise. Thank you again! ~Now I'm going for a drive with my Sport through some of those fun 'twisties'. ;-) best, R

It is a nice car. I have owned a 2011 Elantra and currently own a 2016 SE (wife’s) and a 2016 Limited. I bought a 2017 Civic Si back in July, the Civic gets better gas mileage and has a way better ride than any Elantra I’ve owned. Also the cabin in the Si is so much more comfortable and the aftermarket parts supply is plentiful. I do like the leather option in the Elantra though.

Keith Camplin how is the rev hang, do you notice it?
@KeithCamplin
@KeithCamplin 6 лет назад
Niru Yes, but I drive like an old man anyways. I am 47 years old and I baby this car. Once my warranty is up I will mod it with a Ktuner and delete the revhang.
@KeithCamplin
@KeithCamplin 6 лет назад
Niru I also might add that the revhang isn’t that bad and definitely not a deal breaker for me.

Wrong about the Elentra Sport not having a sport mode. You're driving the manual, YOU are the sport mode. In the 7spd DCT it does have a mode button, including sport. The Torque curve is 1500-4500.
@hovaajayy597

Dual clutch has a sports mode , but you got a manual so that falls on the driver's shoulders.
@JTube571
@JTube571 7 лет назад
Manual cars are always in Sport mode.
@hovaajayy597
@hovaajayy597 7 лет назад
Jason Miller yeah , so... that was my point ,the way the car drives fully falls on the driver and not a button .
@JTube571
@JTube571 7 лет назад
My point is that the sharper throttle response and stiffer steering offered by the "Sport" button is always present on the 6MT. Hence, always in Sport mode.
