I just got my 22 C8 with z51 and mag ride and it's worth every penny. When I feel like having fun throw it into track mode but when I'm cruising tour mode feels like a Cadillac. I can't believe how much car you get for the money.

After doing all of the normal research on the 911 S and the c8, I ordered a c8 z51 (with mag ride) two months ago. This video and your comment are why I finally pulled the trigger. So, it's all on you, if my wife doesn't like the car. 😁 Take care and thanks

Great Video. A couple of quick things. The main camber adjustment is done on the upper control arms for race track set ups, the other is the rear brake ducting you showed actually has another piece that you did not have installed that directs are into the piece that you showed, but is not to used in street use as it will pick up road debris.
@rod3134
@rod3134 2 года назад
Be very careful with the Z51 underbody air ducting. The add on pieces are just for track use. Otherwise if you daily drive it you will destroy your brakes. The track scoops will become rock catchers on a normal road. Word to the wise...

I have a 2022 C8 z51 convertible and this video was helpful. there are also some snap on parts to help cool the brakes they give you. I would love to see the camber done and its recommended to lower the tire pressure to 24 front 25 back on track days. Just trying to learn my car for the drag strip. any tips I'm open to listen and learn.
@LWRC
@LWRC 2 года назад
Who actually recommended the tire pressure to be lowered to 24 F & 25 R for track use? What is the factory recommended tire pressure? Lowering the tire pressure by 1 PSI won't really affect the tire contact patch at all but will cause the tire temerature to go higher relative to the higher pressure setting.

From my understanding, if you don't intend on tracking the car, a Z51 suspension isn't recommended. Is that true?
@JJAAZZMan
@JJAAZZMan 2 года назад
I don't think that it's not necessarily that it's not recommended if not tracking, the point is why pay $6000+ for a package that you'll never use to it's potential. I've had people reply to me that if for no other reason, you should buy the Z51 for resale value. I say, buy the car for what YOU intend to do with it and NOT for what the next person may or may not want. A nice clean Corvette will sell whether it has Z51or not.

For me I got the Z51 and went with a lower interior option. I buy Corvettes for the performance not for the bling or status. For me if your going to drive a performance car you want every performance option you can get. There are multiple upgrades in the Z51 option that makes it worth getting even if your not going to track the car.

Why does this performance package have solid rotors and not slotted units?!!! GM cutting costs again!!!
@Grassrootsmotorsports
@Grassrootsmotorsports 2 года назад
Slotted rotors can lead to premature cracking with a lot of abuse, and the small benefit is probably not worth the reduced service life or the sheer amount of complaints that dealer service departments would have to deal with.
@LWRC
@LWRC 2 года назад
@@Grassrootsmotorsports Negative. I run expensive aftermarket slotted rotors on my sports sedan right now and have never had a problem. This goes to the quality of product, how it was engineered and manufactured. Can any rotor that is made like junk fail - absolutely. However, properly manufactured slotted rotors do not crack even abused. Slotted rotors are used in professional motorsports and you don't think those rotors turn cherry red in the heat cycles? Ever watch viedos of 24 hrs of Le Mans when the cars run at night - what color are those rotors? The problem GM has is they cut corners and make a mid-engine car that is already 10 years behind everyone else when they introduced it!!! GM started with a clean sheet of paper and this is the best they could come up with? I'm not here to bash GM and I want them to succeed and compete on the international stage with the best of the best. But unfortunately, they can't. I can go on but will let you search RU-vid for all the unforced mistakes GM made on the C8 Stingray posted by owners and many of these mistakes has nothing to do with the C8!! Take a look at a manufacturer that knows how to make a product and what it looks like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tpPkrhsKeXg.html

@@LWRC I don't disagree with any of your points, but how often do you check your rotors for cracks? Before and after every track day? Even during sometimes? And how much are your rotors vs. a solid rotor that's equally as good at shedding heat. The C8Z, despite extremely good performance out of the box, is still built to a price point and a level of user interaction that is as low as possible besides fueling and driving. I have no issues with those pieces being made available through dealer or approved supplier networks, but as equipped parts on a high-performance but still readily available car, I just don't think it's worth the hassle for Chevy. As much as I'd like to see it, they'd lose more sales making the car more maintenance intensive than keeping it more idiot proof.
@LWRC
@LWRC 2 года назад
@@Grassrootsmotorsports Again, the slotted rotors will be much better at shedding heat than solid rotors. The slotted rotors are a two piece design and thus gives more ability to transfer heat. I don't check them that often since they have never ever failed. If GM thinks buyers won't abuse the solid rotors, they are dreaming!!!
@LWRC
@LWRC 2 года назад
@@Grassrootsmotorsports Porsche 911 Turbo can be ordered with either drilled steel rotors or carbon ceramic (Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brake) PCCB rotors. The drilled steel rotors have the holes cast into the rotor blanks before they're machined and drilled - a very expensive process. Owners track these cars all the time. They don't fail prematurely because Porsche engineered them to take the abuse! If Porsche can do that, why can't GM build the C8 with slotted rotors which are easier to manufacture and less susceptible to cracks?!!! Because GM decided to cheap out on these elements and thus makes owning a car at the 6 figure range so frustrating and less than satisfying. I will never own one of these but I give GM credit for trying!!!

As a C8 2024 Owner and Engineer. I don't see the value of the Z51 Package for the $7k. 1) The E-LSD does NOTHING that other Electrical Diffs do such as an EVO X(Has Torque Vectoring). The C8 Z51 does NOT have Torque Vectoring. It literaly does nothing other than locking the wheels . The extra 5HP can't even feel it. GM just wants their Money back from R&D Developing this car. By just selling Options to non-Engineers and Over charging for a Z06 (which still has a V8)!

Wouldn't that brake duct tunnel a ton of rain water onto the rotor? Not good. Too many bolts on the bottom plate- silly design. Also, being sealed would trap massive amounts of exhaust heat. This looks much better suited as a dedicated track car than a daily driver. For one, it goes through tires quickly and it will be expensive to repair. Also way too much cheap looking plastic but that keeps the price down. It definitely is sharp looking and much better than Corvettes in the past. As a second fun weekend car- maybe. As a main car, I would pass.
@Grassrootsmotorsports
@Grassrootsmotorsports 2 года назад
In the C5 and C6 Corvette, that plate covered the tunnel above the exhaust that housed the torque tube. The large number of fasteners was due to engineers wanting to retain the stiffness of an enclosed, box-section frame member while providing accessibility to remove the torque tube. To be fair, I'm not exactly sure what lives in this cavity in the C8, but I imagine it's a combination of electrical, hydraulic and coolant lines linking the front of the car with the rear. Rather than re-engineer a solution to covering that inverted valley, GM could simply evolve the previous method of a fastener-rich panel that added stiffness while still allowing access. And ducting rain water onto the rotors seems like a good way to add passive water cooled brakes :)
@MOAB-UT

@@Grassrootsmotorsports As a former engineering major, I call BS. With the right design, all those bolts are not necessary. Only ONE holds the lower control arm on. Think about that. There are probably TWO for the motor mounts. Only 5 for each wheel. It's a COVER! It should slide in and fit into a notch. No more than 4-6 bolts should be needed. NO. Cold water spraying on HOT rotors will make them warp real quick. It WILL sell more rotors which is the end goal. Like I said, this is mostly a track car. It will be a very expensive daily driver despite the seemingly low initial price.

@@MOAB-UT This is what happens when non-engineers try to pretend they understand engineering! While a box-section frame member can provide some rigidity, there are a lot of variables and unless you have access the the design data, everything is just speculation based on what he said and what your reply was - both are speculations! Why are you a 'former' engineering major? Did you not fininsh and get your degree?!!
@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT 2 года назад
@@LWRC Haha- thanks for the chuckle LWRC. I appreciate your cynicism. I remember when I had my first beer too. Are you an Engineer or did you even attend college? What design data do I need? Water forced onto rotor equals a bad design for an everyday driver who will be driving in rain- period. That is why you do not see it much on "everyday drivers...." Your reading comprehension skills might be challenged because in my post, I clearly stated: "AS A MAIN CAR, I would pass." I stand behind every letter of every word I stated above. To answer your specific question, I enjoyed every minute of my engineering education, with the exception of concentrated summer session of both Physics and Calc. I ultimately decided to pivot to business. I am very much a people person and found I enjoy more of the day to day engagement that business can afford. A lifetime later, yes, you can read into that to (I am getting old), I have zero regrets. I have friends and family who are engineers and I earn about 3x more than all but one of them who bills out at $275.00/hr.
@LWRC
@LWRC 2 года назад
@@MOAB-UT Again, you have no clue and are just guessing and standing by your guesses are fine. Torsional rigidity has many elements that contributes to it. Unless you know what GM did, and none of us do, just taking wild ass guesses doesn't make it right! And I said nothing about water forced into brake rotors! Regardless, if it was engeneered properly, it can be used as a daily driver. It can be even with the brake ducts directing air / water towards the brake rotors!!! Have you ever thought of how much rain water actually do reach the rotors when they're turning at speed? This is not the same as dropping a hot rotor into a tank of cold water! No, there is no issue with my reading but there is a lack of understanding on your part and that's understandable for someone who couldn't finish the engineering degree. And Physics and Calculus are some of the easiest courses!
