Your photographs are amazing. I really appreciate the way you explain your process, but what I love most, is your excitement and passion. Thanks for sharing.
Grand opening shot; sobering thought is that most glorious 'photos' aren't witnessed by anyone; so, yes lie back and enjoy the changing beauty of nature like you did at the end; hallelujahs to the Creator
Wow! Kim I love your videos so much. Your lovely smile, an indication of your enthusiasm about your photography is inspiring. That's one thing that I need to learn more is showing up early to sites and waiting patiently for the right light. I have loved your Scottish accent since the first time I watched your videos and it just keeps me watching and listening intently. You do a great job in your work and I admire that joy and enthusiasm. Keep up the great work here on your channel. Simply beautiful!!!
The first shot of the lighthouse from behind the pool was gorgeous but the 2nd shown image from the same spot has elevated the image to a whole new level. Superb image.
Wonderful set of images and great to see you enjoying the day! I wish there are more women landscape photographers as I believe they are more 'compassionate' and sensitive to the environment. At least that's what I've observed having followed a number of them.
Nice vlog as always Kim. You got some nice shoots. It was a nice afternoon out and catch up. Its a beautiful place and I can see why you love it so much and that moon was lovely that day........
As always you are the ultimate ambassador for your beloved Scotland. Thank you for your patience to achieve these lovely photos for all to view. Cheers
Such stunning photos Kim. A hard choice for you to pick one, good luck with that. As this is the last Sunday before Holiday season. You and your family have a restful and peaceful Christmas and let's all hope the New Year, brings a better out come. Until then, stay safe and well. Love from Cornwall. 🎄🤶🥂
Fantastic shots. I prefer the ones that have both the lighthouse reflection and the sea. Somehow it feels more “right” when the ocean is part of a lighthouse picture.
This is proabebly the best video you have made so as I see it. Well put together, edited and presented. I can see you have a passion in your eyes, for what you are doing. A real passion. Not many I know have that passion. Stay in the same track Kim. You/your channel deserves way more attension. Then I wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe and atb to you in the oncoming year. Thums up from Norway.
Lovely images Kim. The ‘twilight’ images particularly stand out for me. Just goes to show it pays to take your time, which is just what you were saying. Thanks
Very nice Kim! :) One of your subscribers mentioned doing a pano with a longer lens instead of using a wide angle lens. I use that technique as well. That said, I liked the images you got with your wide angle. The "distortion" worked for you, one thing being it created nice "leading lines" to the lighthouse. I have a SamYang 12mm(18mm for my APS-C camera) lens I like for doing photos like yours. Again, well done. I really miss my time in Scotland :(
Thoughtful. Helpful. Inspiring. Very fine images. You mention a calendar; if you sell one, I cannot find it on your website. As a very hasty landscape photographer myself, your advice is both very telling and very useful. The world is such a beautiful place but still it is very worthwhile to be reminded that just bring in the place transcends the photography.
Kim, do you ever practice with the Pano/Stitching technique as an alternative to using ultra wide zooms? I guess a lot has to do with ones particular wide lens but have found the the corner distortion or stretching of my off center subjects to be a bit of a distraction sometimes, so I adopted the pano technique. Yes it's more work in Ps and your manual settings is critical in the shooting stage but I found it to work very well. Last year I did my rendition of Ansel Adams' Yosemite Valley [minus the dramatic weather haha] and I found that the 28 was a bit too wide, the 35 just almost there and the 50mm was a bit to tight, (I'm a prime lens shooter), so by using a short tele 50mm up to 85mm I can get a high resolution image in 3 to 6 shots stitched, and it also compressed the scene a bit where half dome in the distance was not so far away anymore, and most importantly, no distortion or stretching of trees and rocks. edit: I hope I didn't sound like it was a critique on your photo, It's not, not at all... I am definitely not in a position to do that anyways, I'm just an amateur, a Lonnnnng time amateur that is haha. Your photo was lovely and impactful and I really liked it. This was more about curiosity when facing wide compositions because it would make for a great video if you in fact practice it.
As I told Kim above, I do panos sometimes for the same reasons you do. For me, the technique I use depends on the composition and/or my "mood" at the time. :)
Another great day by the sea. For me, the ultra wide angle shots are always unique and stunning. Your twilight shots really stand out. And I must say, you must have a very patient Dad. ;-)
I was there in September, great spot and great light, loved the 2nd last of the sunset group. We had a mini storm mind you, the wind was blowing spray right across the rocks but I was happy with my images even if the sunrise I was chasing didn't materialize.
hi Kim ,soon as i saw that reflection of the light house in the pool when you was talking i though there's a photo there , nd what great photos you took great work once again from you a pleasure to view your work and videos Kim , if i dont catch you again, on here ,have great Christmas and a great new year , take care and stay safe
Thank you Mick. Glad you too saw the reflections as a good image opportunity. Thanks also for the well wishes. I hope you have a great Christmas too :)
Loved the geese at 12:54. Another relaxing photo session by proxy, thanks for sharing, images at 14:40 and 17:00 are my picks. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I know they are expensive but have you thought about trying a perspective control lens when shooting the lighthouses? They should straighten up the lighthouse in the image. I agree you might use one of the photographs in your calendar. You had some great shots!
Stunning images as usual Kim. The 'Reflective Moments' as I've nicknamed the images will look great in your calendar. Being dedicated to learning your craft and putting in the hours of practice do pay off in the end. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family Kim. Take care and stay safe 💜
Stunning images. In the last video,is it possible to buy a print of the image at 10:42(the sailboats) ? I am partial to sailing boats and lighthouses. Take care of yourself and stay safe. Merry Christmas and happy new year. 🍻🎄
Thank you Johnny. One thing I am hoping to do during Scotland's next lockdown (starting on boxing day) is look into getting a print shop set up on my website. One image I was thinking of selling is the one mentioned (thank you for the interest). Please do keep an eye out for an announcement in the coming month or so if all goes to plan :)
@@kimgrantphotography thank you for your reply. A sailing channel I follow has a print shop set up somewhere in England. I believe it is called “ Theprintspace”.but being a photographer, you would probably want to do it yourself though. Merry Christmas and happy new year. Take care of yourself and stay safe.🍻🎄
Gorgeous images Kim, I prefer the reflection shots over the "straight" image. Waiting for the shot is so important. I went to Ribblehead viaduct in October, and parked at midday, ate my sandwiches , scouted around and found a couple of locations for sunset, had a nap while it was raining (!) went to the first location at 3.30,, was a bit disappointed with the sunset, thought it had gone, walked back to the other location and was finally rewarded with a spectacular sky.
Kim Do you have painted water tanks in Scotland? We have some in California I have been photographing them for the last few years as I drive around as we have very few lighthouses to photograph.
Love the videos but hate to have to lower the volume when assaulted by the massive wall of music, then i have to raise the volume again to hear what you are saying.
Wanted to ask you about your tripod. I'm not real impressed with budget travel tripods so I wanted to ask someone who isn't interested in promoting something they wouldn't spend their money on. I currently have a Vanguard AltaPro but its much too long for hiking. Tell me what you use, please?
Hi Gordon. I use a k&F concepts carbon fibre tripod and the Manfrotto befree tripod. I find (given the price) that the K&F is great but I wouldn't necessarily class it as a travel tripod. Although it's very light, it's not that compact. If you'd like to see the exact model, there is a link to it in the video description
@@kimgrantphotography I must thank you for your graciousness, but I already pulled the trigger on Amazon for another Vanguard. They make a travel tripod(VEO 2) that closes down to 15 in. And I couldn't beat that. Thank you very much sweetheart and you have a merry Christmas.
