Did you come to that video with that photo just to see that photo from that video knowing that you were going to get offended looking at that video, with that photo from that thumbnail?
OMG you bastards. The audio goes ever so slightly but noticeable out of sync once Tom mentions he doesn't notice out of sync audio. Well played, whoever cut this.
When I saw this video in my feed, I thought to myself: "If there wont be a comment mentioning the thumbnail on the top, I`ll be dissapointed". And at the moment it stands above Matt`s comment, which pleases me.
I was quite offended by THAT image from THIS video. I think they should apologise for using it as the thumbnail for THIS video. Which was THAT image, from THIS video
Love how at about 19:49 Matt flicks the monopod once, Tom's like "yeah, I will just go on talking like I'm not impressed", then Matt flicks it again and Tom's just lost for words for a moment :D
I completely forgot to mention the DJI Osmo, which I'm still using - it's a 4K camera stabilised on a gimbal. There's a link to our previous video about that in the description, along with links to every bit of kit we mentioned! --Matt
Just so you know, if the frequencies aren't too busy (and sometimes if they are anyways), pilots will say hello to each other as they fly by. If we are close enough to see each other wave, some swearing might be included...
I've been watching all Matt and Tom videos in chronological order recently, and I do hope that after having watched this particular video, finally Matt's slo-mo face will no longer show up *every single time* I look at my RU-vid video recommendations section. (I enjoyed the video nonetheless.) [EDIT: It seems to have worked, phew!]
wrt chargers and amps pushed vs pulled: there is an important difference between a power supply and a charger. A usb wallwart "phone charger" is technically a (5V) power supply and not a charger. the charger part sits between the usb plug on the phone and the battery. The role of the charger is to limit both current and voltage flowing into the battery. Putting 5V without any current limiting into any single cell (3.7V) lithium-ion battery will turn it into a note 7 very quickly. While there are batteries which have integrated charging circuitry, most camera batteries don't (I don't know about the GoPro in specific) in which case the current rating on the charger does indeed matter for not melting the battery. Especially important is to never use anything labeled as "fast charger" or "turbo charger" with cheap/off-brand batteries, as these will charge at much higher currents than the "normal" charger and hence push the thermal and chemical limits of the batteries. So, while amps are indeed pulled and not pushed, most batteries will pull much more current than is good for them without any charging electronics limiting them.
Has anyone brought up Handbrake yet? It's the program I use to convert my cell phone footage to constant frame rate, it works great and has completely solved the de-syncing problem
Ooh, nice! I'll look for it, my Motorola moto e(6) plus (yeah, it's written like that) does 29.97fps but the camera app is complete garbage, so I use OpenCamera that saves the videos at 30fps instead, and it goes out-of-sync with my microphone (a '18 Galaxy J5 Prime running Dolby On) But why is a video editing program called Handbrake?
23:50 "Those are the closest three" *fourth rabbit in centre frame quietly moves behind a bush* edit: I think the furthest rabbit may actually be two rabbits, so there are *five* rabbits in frame.
Glasses Matt is wearing are either Oakley TwoFace or Oakley Silver frames. The easiest oakleys to glaze (apart from maybe the foxskins). Thank you Matt, from opticians everywhere.
Hey Matt, you were talking about a slightly cheaper pair of Bose headphones, but you didn't finish your thought (because of lovely lovely rabbits). What was it?
Bose AE2i. Bought them years ago, and liked them because you can get (albeit pricey) spare ear pads and cables for them. They don't seem to make them any more. --Matt
So, I was just watching, but mostly listening to, a bunch of old park bench videos. So I didn't notice the thumbnail before this auto played. And in the 4.5 years or so since this video was released, I had forgotten all about the slow motion portion of this video. As soon as it happened, I remembered the public apology, and cracked up laughing for 4 or 5 minutes straight. So, thank you past Matt and Tom. You made my day today.
The "picture camera stops recording after half an hour because of tax reasons" is exactly why I ordered my gh4 from Hong Kong - it'll get a bit warm with 4k for over 2 hours but I've pushed it to 4 and it's worked!
Sold the floppy disk one when I worked at a big-box store a million years ago, back when floppy disks were still used. They were a fantastically easy sell to folks who were intimidated by the ridiculous amount of memory cards, adapters, etc, that they suddenly needed to learn about *on top of* their new camera, but who *really really wanted* that new camera. "I mean, this one just saves the photos right onto a floppy disk." "Sold!" 'Twas a simpler time.
A group of friends and I record a podcast of us playing tabletop RPGs and we've ran into one of the problems you mentioned. When we started, we experimented with several different microphone setups. When we first started, it was super cheap lowest end possible microphones on a super cheap mixer. It sounded awful. I got a headache just listening back to it. We then got a decent personal recorder (nothing fancy), and that worked well, except it doesn't pick everyone up uniformly so frequently someone would be clipping while someone else would be almost inaudible. We then tried to supplement the personal recorder with a cell phone and that was horrible. The cellphone (like the iPhone video you talked about) dropped "frames" and changed sample rate frequently such that it was impossible to sync up the two audio sources. Our final solution, was to invest in a couple of decent microphones (still nothing fancy, but better than the lowest end) spread out so that it captures everyone fairly equally, and use the personal recorder as a backup.
SomeoneBloodyRandom i'd like to see that. as they said in the video the 5min- ish limit is because the camera Thermal throttles at that point because it too hot from processing all that information. at 15:00 he mentions this, and the fact that the time is shorter in hot weather. It the 30 min video limit that's a software limit, for tax reasons, and that can probobly be hacked around.
I love these geeky tech videos. I worked in radio transmission in the military and I record and perform music now. I love to nerd out about equipment. That was a lot of "I"s. Sorry about that. Great video.
I understand that the Park Bench will not come back but I would love to know the equipment Matt and Tom use for the various things they produce both personally and professionally
I've had the same pair of AKG K701 headphones since 2009. Battered, held together with duck tape, resoldered, discoloured but they still fit and work! I don't like change, either...
That viewfinder is probably higher resolution than the back screen, making it more useful for things like getting accurate focus, and may also have better color rendition too; I know that's the case on my Sony a99.
Matt, I also can't stand the overemphasis on bass in headphones, speakers, and everything. Considering you're a sound guy, can you please let us all know when you find ones that have a good balance? I'll pretty much buy them instantly.
If you like being able to interchange lenses, have shallow DOF and have a light camera, you might want to consider the APS-C format (same sensor size as the 7D) mounts: - EOS M (has an official adapter for EF lenses) - Sony E mount (a6000, a7, etc.). I think there are some camcoders from Sony with this mount too. - Fuji X (more of a stills ecosystem, but the newer cameras can shoot video and people seem to love the color on the film simulation modes) Also micro four thirds, it's a bit smaller than APS-C but bigger than the 1" sensor on the RX100's, the Panasonic GH series is known for it's use on video. Also, you forgot to mention the dead kitten for the rode mic!
For headphones, the Sennheiser HD 600 and 650 are fantastic (the 600 is VERY neutral). If you like a tasteful amount of sub-bass (which is usually completely missing in headphones), try the Monoprice M1060s. Yes Monoprice. If you really like treble, try the Beyerdynamic DT 880 or 990. Don't forget to get an amp and dac. The Schiit Magni/Modi stack or the Audio GD NFB11 are usually good places to start.
Personally, I like the Zoom H5, because it has the nice rubberized armor on it, and it has XLR ports, with a Manfrotto mini tripod, which was practically made for it. Also, Sony MDR-7506 headphones, because they're not super bassy like everyone elses headphones and are much more durable than Sony's consumer offerings for the same price.
The audio equipment was really useful... been trying to make things sound, crisp for a real long time and those piece of equipment should last me a while... thanks and enjoy the money from me buying them from the link... also forgive my grammar and my English. I'm English and can't speak the language... as you would expect from an Englishman.
I checked the Amazon affiliate link for the R0DE NTG2, and all I can find is a mic with a 3.5mm jack; not the XLR version you have? I did find the Tascam DR-10X recorder, though.
Tom: For iPhone video sync issues in Adobe Premiere: use the free Handbrake software and set the variable framerate to constant framrate > export > import to premiere > profit.
Hey Tom, for your search for ear buds, I was looking for the same thing and discovered that the Bose Soundsport earbuds do not block the ear either, and (IMO) sound a fair bit better than the Apple ear bud style buds.
I have just noticed a weird thing. at the beginning, when the bottom banner bounces in, only the snapchat icon bounces sort of against it, but other icons stay at the same place. why is that?
