Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common, long-term condition of the digestive system. The condition is often lifelong, although the symptoms may change over time. With the right strategies, IBS can be successfully managed. IBS does not pose a serious threat to your physical health and does not increase your chances of developing cancer or other bowel-related conditions.

Thank you for this. It would've been nice to get some names of things to ask for though instead of just descriptions. I'd love to be able to my Doctor to prescribe me things as a test but at the moment they all seem to have lost interest in helping. In my situation I started with a very sensitive gastrocolic reflex and have subsequently developed a fear of eating in restaurants. This has settled down since I eat lease greasy and fatty foods at home but I often find I get a lot of general discomfort and pains. I've tried mebeverine and peppermint oil which have no real effect in my situation, I've also tried psyllium husk which caused things to get worse... The doctors aren't volunteering anything else so I'm resorting to RU-vid! Even a gastroenterologist palmed me off to a dietician. The FODMAP diet does help to an extent but when I'm on the FODMAP diet for a while and then break the rules ones the result can be devastating and sometimes, you don't realise you're about to break the rules. Constantly feeling on edge and reluctant to go out. Hope you other suffers are having a better time than me :)
