Cus was definitely like a father to him. And he died before Mike could make him proud. “How did I do?” The words of a man who will die with the regret of not knowing the answer. It reminds me of the movie Saving Private Ryan. Where Ryan as an old man visits the graves of the men who died to saved him. And asked of those who can never answer: “Am I a good person? Did I make it count? Did I earn your sacrifice? Did I do right by you?” Powerful.

What would be really something would be to read the email he got back from Cus. I bet he would feel responsible for all the bad things that happened to Mike as a result of his passing. Mike could have so easily become an animal in a cage awaiting a death sentence for horrific crimes he was on a course to commit. Today, scars and all, he is a good person inside. I think Cus is proud of Mike, but should remember he would never have got there without a tremendous amount of love and help. That is on Cus. Mike was still a work in progress as a person and as a boxer when Cus passed, but Mike is finishing the rest himself. And he still became the youngest Heavyweight Champ ever, even if it didn't have a perfect storybook ending.

What this dude grew up like, got the belt before 20, went fcking insane like most guys that age would with cash and fame, lost it all, spent time in the pokey, turned into almost a diffeent person entirely introspective, speaks really openly about his shortcomings and struggles and genuinely a guy that if you read some of his crazier stuff by most accounts should be a social pariah. Its really inspiring to see that its possible to make a comeback and grow as a person in a real positive way. Jimmy kimmel tells a story about mike being on his show one night. During the day his kid got into a fight or something at school and he had to go pick hin up. When he got back tyson grabbed him and went off to have a little heart to heart with him and a motivational talks you give kids that age. Then threatened him🤣 if you dad calls me and says your getting in trouble again, he told me id have to come over and beat the shlt out of you. Kid leaves, couldnt imagine what was going through his mind with the end of that conversation. He walks back over to kimmel and said they had a good conversation. Oh yeah I threatened him, said if you call me saying he's fcking up again I'd beat his a$$. Heres the best part. This was the first time kimmel and tyson met 🤣 then tells him you know id never do that right? Tysons still insane, but its a much less scary and more stuff like that. Kimmel always tells anyone asking how/when did you meet mike. Goes he threatened to beat my kid, weve been friends ever since😃

Mike is an absolute unit, no one can argue against that, but it isn't all just physical. You can tell his love for Cus goes so deep, and he genuinely cares so much about what he thinks, even in the afterlife.

I love Mike Tyson. I used to love him because I thought the things he did and said were so over the top that it made it hilarious. But as time went on I now love him because of how smart and thoughtful he actually is, and the things I used to think were funny about him have taken on a darker and more tragic tone when you see the result of him today. Its really a shame that he got taken advantage of by so many after Cus passed. I’m so happy for him now that he can just be himself.
