Before starting the academic year, incoming freshmen at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, must participate in a six-week basic training program that teaches military skills like rifle marksmanship, rappelling, navigation, and properly donning protective gear like gas masks.
At the end of training, cadets compete in "The Crucible," a high-intensity final test that cadets must complete before marching 12 miles back to the main West Point campus, where they will begin their academic year. Insider followed these new cadets throughout the summer to see what all they learn before beginning their school year at the prestigious military academy.

Don’t compare bootcamp with the trainings these cadets do, their instructors are not drill sergeants, but rather upper class men/ officers. The young officers are there to study academics and not in a hurry to be sent to the frontline. They still have to endure 4 more years of academic pressure plus military pressure so they aren’t taking it easy.
@Blellowdb
@Blellowdb Год назад
There are non-commissioned roles that do both a full bootcamp and several years academic study and training. The question isn't their rank but what they need to do their job and the acceptable levels of attrition. Many have very low graduation rates, mainly due to stress. I think criticisms of junior officers to be justified, they aren't adequately prepared as military personnel for their jobs. Their words by the way, not mine.

I served as an enlisted and climbed the ranks to non commissioned officer and it's great to see what the officers I served with had to endure before becoming an officer. NCO's may be the backbone of the Army because of our experiences but good officers make the call that we had to follow. I was fortunate to have served with a lot of great officers.
@yannick245
@yannick245 Год назад
Well, as an enlisted man/NCO, the only officers you really deal with are lieutenants and captains. A major from time to time. Junior grade officers that are actually in field. But war/military operations are planned by the senior grade officers corps _(Stabsoffiziere in German)._ From major upwards. Something the ordinary grunt tends to forget when he's fighting. The job of these men and women is/will be to study and planning the art of war. A profession that comes with a heavy burden. Since your plans include the deaths of your own men/people. I can't imagine how someone in a position like the German general Paulus felt, when he surrendered to the Soviets. Only 6.000 of his whole VI. Army _(300.000 men)_ survived the war and the following Soviet custody. To which extent did he feel personal guilt? The thing is: Without the officers corps there's no military. It would be nothing but a bunch of men with guns in uniforms. The necessity of a well trained/schooled officers corps is known to mankind since ancient times. _Pardon my English. I'm not a native speaker, nor have I ever been to an English speaking country._

@@chilistakeout229 Difference is, there are 4 years of academy time before we even enter the operational Army. We have sets of military skills training every summer and military science classes during the academic year until we graduate. And on top of that, we go to Basic Officer Leadership Course following USMA which is specfic branch training and the like. Its a more gradual process. We have the time to do that whereas a recruit has to do essentially all of that in 9 weeks plus AIT which requires a much higher intensity.

It’s good to share army experience like myself; I had experience being in rotc, as a cadet, and experienced the basic camp in Fort Knox Kentucky. I decided to enlist into the army having to do BCT for 10 weeks I have to compare to rotc experience. I say the real army harder lol 😂 but a great experience I had. I have a high school friend who went through West Point, and he played football for them to, but anyones he had a great experience with them.

Yeah no need for a formal talk but you’re in college now and will soon become an army officer (if you could make). So you should at least invest in your grammar when you type in your sentences. Because army officers will write/type a lot of paper works. And your habit of poorly written grammar will leave you without respect from your underlings.

The army as a whole has changed changed it’s training model to shift towards respecting candidates and the value that they bring to our professional force versus degrading them. You’ll see this in the business insider infantry osut training video as well. Some say it’s a step in the right direction in creating thinking/autonomous soldiers … who will eventually become positive leaders who create positive and non-toxic leadership environments. It’s all about setting an example for recruits of what good leadership looks like, and now the army thinks good leaders only yell at people with a purpose.

I don't know the specifics of WP CBT but compared to USAFA's BCT, it seems way more field based, more learning and less yelling. During USAFA BCT all we did was standing at attention in the hallways with contrails at 90 degrees, memorize quotes, get PTed, do bed drills, etc. Jacks Valley part involved more physical stuff like the assault course but that was just during that week down there. The rest of basic was done on academy campus.

This video only displays CBT 2, which is the second half of Cadet Basic Training. The first half, CBT 1, is generally not shown(other than r day). CBT 1 consists of honing basic Army skills(drill and ceremony, reporting, saluting, proper stances) attending boring briefs, getting smoked for no reason, and cleaning your room. They also have a knowledge book they need to memorize, which is not fun when you're sleep deprived. West Point wants to maintain their golden child image so they do not flaunt the scary side of CBT.
