As a medical scientist, my salary was 120k when I left Nigeria, having worked for 8 years with very bad working conditions. The same certificate gives me at least $6k a month from one job, and I have two, with better working conditions. Three thousand of Mr. Minister can't stop me from seeking a better life for me and my family, period!
UK govt will never do that. Are u a learner? How can they pursue person wey come spend money to boost their economy?Na was to you o😂 Olskuul man come in peace🕊️
A nurse that earns 80k per month can't treat anyone with dignity because she has none. Pay the same nurse $5000 a month you will be amazed with her performance infact without an additional training. Good pay brings good performance.
Me in the abroad laughing terribly. Once you leave Nigeria, your only problem becomes the motivation to work hard because you immediately get everything you have been looking for all your life.
Period!!!!! If you stop doctors from leaving the country, there should also be a policy stopping ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS STARTING FROM THE PRESIDENT FROM GETTING HEALTHCARE OUTSIDE NIGERIA. Arrant nonsense!!!!!
Rebuilding Nigeria is highly encompassing. Neglecting Nurses need in welfare, policy making, values proposition to the profession, rating them below others and many negatives the rebuilding policy by the govt.
I would like to share a story. 2 years ago I was in Abuja. My friend asked me to come with her to the health department to speak to some doctors about a health experience I had. And the treatment I received in my country. (USA) When I got to the health department building. I was not impressed at all. I couldn't believe this was a Health department building. When you drive in they have old tires in the parking lot. I guess it's to keep people from parking. I really don't know. Inside the building there was low lighting. I remember asking my friend why it is so dark in here. The elevator was taking so long that we walked upstairs. As I walked up I saw worn out furniture stuffing coming out of the cushions. When I was talking to the Doctors. When I told them they might consider putting more money into researching women's health. They lost interest. And quickly change the subject. I knew they were not serious about Women health. I was thinking to myself. I hope I don't have to go to a hospital over here. Because if this is the Health department. Lord help me. The Nigerian people deserve much better.
The policy is sure necessary to keep up with the needs of the people. Realize that tertiary education here is cheaper and cost of living is not same compare to there. Even though there is need to improve the workers' packages too it can't be as much as they are getting there. Let's be more patriotic and factual. I've always been your fan, but can't deny my conscience anytime. Thanks.
@ourmatterstv247 it's good to speak ones conscience without but the truth must be told...Let the policy makers be the change first rather than stop people going abroad...
You're right Adeola. I never envisioned practicing outside of Nigeria, but my quality of life as a pediatrician in the USA cannot be compared to that back home.
My wife had to undergo orthopaedic surgery last year at a state teaching hospital and they had to use lamp & phone flashlight to do surgery because there was no electricity nor diesel to power their generator.....That’s how bad the working condition is
True talk! If they pass a bill that stops "our fathers" from going abroad for medical treatments, our hospitals will be revamped, and working conditions for healthcare workers will greatly improve. Then there would be no need for the minister's "book"! I love you, sister Adeola ❤️ Keep up the good job!
Hi adeola, my name is omolola and I am a nurse in zamfara state and I work in federal medical center. But when I was working with the zamfara state service I was earning 69000 even after working for 7years my salary still remains the same. Even this federal hospital the salary is just to glorify God. With this salary I can't even save up to process my way to other better countries. Zamfara state isn't even that safe to live again but I hope in God to change my story someday. Thank you for speaking up for us
House officers earn 240k Medical officers/Registrar earn 350k Senior Registrars earn less than 500k Consultant earn range of 750k and above, all this is in a federal hospital
Just yesterday on Nigeriaworld website page, it says each Nigerian Senator is getting paid 21 million Nigerian Nairas (approximately 13,250 United States dollars - meaning 159,000 United States dollars annually) per month just for their office expenses NOT including their annual salary that is separate on its own. I think Nigerian Doctors should be paid more than these Nigerian Senators there in Nigeria. Regardless, it is what it is. Peace...
These politicians are being so highly paid 0:00 for doing NOTHING! They are NOT solving the people' problems in anyway! Many of them run to these foreign countries for treatment living the rest of us in VERY POOR Health, as if our doctors are not up to the task! WICKEDNESS !
300 % salary increase for judges ? Make it the same for the healthcare workers too maybe they will not runaway. I doubt it anyway because the environment and the benefits in the western countries are way more . Pay the healthcare workers the same as the senators including the senators allowances, let’s start from there. Health is wealth abi ?
My country is just a comic relief show with our leaders who know what to do but are not ready to do anything about it... And aunty Adeola you made a valid point, if they can stop all those yeye officials from travelling abroad for treatment then they will start working on our facilities
My first salary as a nurse was 44,000, after paying rent and buying food stuff and some cosmetic it will be all gone, My mother was still sending me some help instead of me taking care of her. It is pathetic to work as a nurse in this country. 😢
Out of that 235k for a doctor who basically works almost round the clock, 365 days or lets say 350 days Doctor will pay: 1. Renual of medical license 2. Heavily to have medical tests done and treatment done at different times and it is more if the person gets exposed to hazards during work 3. Pay heavily for exams for residency, in Nigeria, some exams are billes in dollars, dollars oo for a country paying naira or in Ghana, ghana cedis 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 4. Pay for housing. 5. Pay dues for different medical association every damn month 6. WE ALWAYS CONTIBUTE FOR PATIENTS TO GET TESTS OR TREAMENTS DONE. I for one on so many occasions bought medical supplies and food for patients! Just to assist and not allow them die of hunger 7. We pay for trainings etc... one has to keep being updated everytime to times and trends. And so much more! On top of it theres so much nonsesnse going on in hospitals esp members of staff admin,HR, accounts hosp attendants, directors, persecs of different parastatls of health stealing money. This minister should please and please stop speaking unrealistically. Doctors are certainly going to leave the country periodt!
We have a big problem to fix in Nigeria. This man is not just an educated person but a Prof and someone occupying a very important position . He most probably has travelled the world or at least been to a developed country and saw the living standards of average working people let alone healthcare professionals. Now, If a Prof in a position like this, can be unreasonable then I am more than convinced that been a professor is just a title in Nigeria and does not translate to experience or intelligence. Our Education needs to be revamped .
Thank you so much for this very well informed response. They are not serious yet! What about International students?!!! After spending 100s of thousands of dollars in loan and over 12 years in to get a US degree from school. you want us to do WHAT?!! Come back WHERE?!!! MAKE HOW MUCH?!! In an unsafe environment? God is watching you!!!
Deola, "so that your family back in Nigeria will not ask you for money" 😅. There should be no more medical tourisms by our leaders. Suffering and smiling here in Nigeria. The thought of the bad medical facilities and attention is enough to cause illnesses sef😢. God bless and keep you Deola
I am listening to Adeola on an hospital bed here in Canada & you just need to imagine the VERY high PERFECTION of treatment I am receiving o o o! It is like heaven on earth COMPARED to that of our hospitals! I said if our hospitals in Nigeria are WELL- EQUIPPED & our medical workers are VERY WELL PAID they do NOT need to jakpa o o o! Let our leaders just use their brains! They can NOT force them NOT to go abroad! Many of them are DOING VERY well here!
Light went off for more than two hours while I was been operated on some years ago, am still battling with complications from that truama. Am a living miracle.
Adeola, I live here in South Africa and as an IT expert my salary convetted to naira is about 10M naira per month. My Nigerian IT colleagues in the US work two jobs, and each job fetches $10k - $15k per month. So the health minister is a joke with such a funny salary and work condition.
What can we do to solve Nigeria's problems. Our leaders does not seem understand our problems. It seems they have completely lost touch with the reality.
I am sooo glad I am already of the mind to get whatever education and licence in the healthcare field outside of Nigeria. I correctly predicted this. Tueh!!
The health minister must be sick, do we have hospital in Nigeria? What we have here is clinic. The ministry, president etc we not go to any of the so called hospital in Nigeria.
I remember as a youth becoming very ill while visiting family in Nigeria and going to a small humble neighborhood clinic in Lagos. I stayed there a week I was so ill. I recovered and I never felt so much better. They treated me so well, better than any hospital I’ve ever been in growing up in the US.
I am from Imo State. A family member who is registered and also went to school to become a registered midwife was hired for 30 thousand naira in a private hospital in Buhari's government era. She works six days a week, with no real benefit like pension. Imo state government had no vacancy for her. She works in Enugu state. There are very many nurses and doctors like her in Imo State!!! There's so much man power in Imo State that many doctors are UNDER EMPLOYED. They can not go to other states because their "state of origin " would be a problem. If they go further North, where there is less manpower, they may be luck to be hired under contract with no lasting benefits and lose the job whenever their indigenes want that job!!! Better, still, they stand to be killed by an angry mob for being an unbeliever. #Fact. These are people Nigerian government are stopping from leaving the country!! What plans do they have for unemployed and under-employed medical workers? They claim they train them. In Imo State, student nurses work shifts without any stipend since 1983!!! While other states paid their students, Imo state student nurses do not get any salary. They pay for their books, accomodation and upkeep. They don't pay school fees but they work!!! Is it what you call free training? You won't hire the individual and you don't want them to leave? INSANITY and witchcraft!!!
Deola, you are the best voice so far that God has given to Nigerians. God bless you. The problem is that my husband and I are addicted to listening to you. KUDOS 👏 👏 👏. Keep doing what you are . May 😅 continue to increase your wisdom and courage. My girl, YOU ARE TOO MUCH
Adeola is really doing a good job and she’s not the only one. Have you subscribed to one “Maiyegun Political “? He speaks truth to power as well. We blessed to have these young talents doing what they’re doing without fear or favour. But do the politicians listen even when they are clueless? NO. It’s really sad.
😮The nurses in Nigeria should speak up. It's unfair. Many of them graduated and can't get jobs in Nigeria. Why should such nurses suffer like that? My heart aches for them. Sad!!!!!
At least Nigeria is trying. I wish other African countries would do the same. People need to go back to their countries and make their countries the idea place to live. Why spend your money in foreign countries, while talking about how great your country is? Work hard and make opportunities in your own country.. You can't say that you are hard workers if you fled your countries to live off the hard work of people in other countries. Prove that you are as great as you claim to be, because great people should be great in their own land.
Thank you again o Deola for being our Mouthpiece. God bless you Before our daughter could graduate as a Doctor, we hear wehin👀 Today, they're been paid peanut!
It's like these policies they keep writing does not apply to the govt officials but only to the Nigeria citizens. The govt has no right to tell the people where to go and when to go, how does that concern them. This is an unrealistic policy that is absolutely futile.
Yes they have a different economy for the judiciary and medical staff. Medical staff don't rig elections and can be reached outside the Nigerian borders but the judiciary can keep you in office and must be domestic to be effective. The judges can't pass verdicts from outside the country but doctors can be accessed. The medical budget is given out as allowances for the politicians to travel anywhere in the world for treatment but the judiciary must and only be local.
Nonsense, they should just train millions of people in the medical field, and also to be a legal practitioner is easier compared to a medical practitioner.A doctor can study to become a lawyer easily while it shall take more years for a lawyer to get a medical license if they don't give up or with draw.
The only state I know in Nigeria that paid a little better salary in Nigeria is Lagos.... However, other states are rubbish. They like asking Nigerians to sacrifice for Nigeria while they are living a flamboyant Life. I'm a Nurse, Adeola nd you're doing a good job. He really needs to rewrite the policy and prevent themselves travelling abroad for treatment.
I like this not because I'm happy but it is coming in a bigger way. We all need to protest not for some of us. People we are to start following with guns but yet will think those offices are our pride and now I think everyone must bare the truth and fight what we needed to fight
You’re talking about nurses not treating people right, is there any profession treating people right in Nigeria? Is the government treating the people right ? Everyone need to take responsibilities, every Nigerian need reorientation. Don’t forget Nigeria still has has some of the best nurses out there and the best doctors, you should try and walk in the shoes of a nurse before u think you have the right to call a profession out.
I hope the big up in government will lead by examples by also signing the policy that they must be ONLY treated in the Nigerian Hospital and nowhere else. Sick B.....
I know a great well known pastor that was supporting Buhari, supported Obasanjo, and kept mute during endsars and endbad governance movement. That same pastor comes to Houston Texas for medicals. Go figure.....politicians are not just the culprits here
Ya'll hardworking Nigerian nurses, just know that in some parts of the diaspora you can move ahead and become a nurse practitioner or a nurse anetsthetist, and depending on the state you are licensed you will be well compensated for your hard work saving lives from $150K to over $200K per year plus 320 hours paid leave, 40 hours paid training (continuing medical education) and bonuses.Taking care of sick humans is not easy oh!
