This is so sickening. Marrying off innocent girls just like that. Misplaced priorities. How will this benefit the state or the whole nation at large???
I think this has a lot to do with religion tho … this is very on brand for a country or territory that enforces sharia law… Nigerians need to start looking at their issues like the layered problems they are.
@@user-nd2ej4pk3cMost Muslim countries encourage female education. Indonesia and Egypt are encouraging people to have two children as part of the measures to reduce poverty. Well in Nigeria, family planning isn't strongly promoted and what makes matters worse is that the population growth rate exceeds the he economic growth rate this means the country is becoming poorer. Doesn't Nigeria have an army? Why aren't they being used EFFECTIVELY in Niger state?
Thank you Adeola, you laid bare the long-term consequence of this marriage. All I could think of when I saw this news was, the continuation of generational poverty in these communities.
While i don't condone the actions of the state and their decision to marry off these young girls instead of educating them, how is the north dragging Nigeria down? How? Has every nigerian president been a northerner, who intentionally keeps the region underdeveloped? Are our governors and other constituents not keeping the baditry alive in the region? I dont see FG soaking all its resources in the north that could keep dragging this country "down". If that's the case, if the north is a back water region of the country, then the south should look something like Dubai or Disneyland right now. Even the US as great as it is has many states that look like barren wastelands filled with uneducated residents compared to places like California, New York etc. Yet despite everything the US will still take pride in everyone of its citizens, come hell or high water. You can sit there and continue to complain and point fingers at each other on whose to blame for the state that Nigeria is in, but remember out of Nigeria we are all one people. Nobody cares which region you come from or your ethnicity. We are all one nation. Let's try to work together. Stop putting the wronv people in positions of power and then you will see real progress 🙏🏽
In Dubai, women drive taxi to transport female clients, which is empowerment, while in Saudi, girls are sent to acquire western education from united state, UK etc, also; avenues have been created to attract tourists through boxing, formula 1, and etc....
I got emotional and teary watching those girls. Oh what a life. I was in the lunch room one day when 3 junior high girls (2 whites and 1 biracial) came to do a podcast assignment. They were talking about marriage and then went into child marriage and they mentioned a country in West Africa that has the largest data in child marriage and they mentioned Nigeria. In all the countries in the world, my country was mentioned. I was just there looking and embarrassed. What a time to live in.hmmmmm
It's normal for old enough to be a young adult's mother or grandma or elder sister to have those tears of joy seeing young ladies get married. This is far better than the so-called educated independent woman with high body count, many of them single mothers crying fouls instead of being happy that young ladies have homes. The men they are talking about, many educated South-Eastern women can't wait to become 4th, 5th, 6th, ... 10th wives to those of them with money like Atiku, Adeleke, etc. etc.
What a shame? how can grownup men gather to arrange marriages to stop them engaging in fornication. this meeting could have made sense if they had joined hands to empower those beautiful girls, give the small courses, sewing, knitting, cooking, hair dressing, caring of children, etc.
i schooled in niger state, fornication in niger state is of highest order. even after marrying those girls the rons will still continue, they go as far as charming those young girls. all the same its poverty that caused such drama
This can only happen in the northern part of Nigeria.I am cock sure, NO Yorba or Igbo girls will accept this. It will take like forever before you can even gather 100 Yoruba or igbo girls. You would rather find them in schools, learning trade, farming, trading or in abroad struggling to survive. The other time I met a n Hausa man from Bauchi who sells tiger nuts in Lagos. He told me, he has 2 mathas ( wives) and 11 children in his hometown.
It's rather unfortunate how misplaced priorities is ravaging our dear Country, the negative impacts of this can be evident in different sectors of our country. And for those holding on to Culture and religion please just know that the whole summary of our beliefs and culture revolves around "What you won't like others to do to you, do not do it to others likewise" with this phrasal summary in mind I don't think those Imams and legislators would have allowed such practice done to their biological daughters, what a wicked and self centered world😢😢😢!
It's when someone is educated enough then he can start reasoning properly. When all someone has studies in his life is only Islamic literatures, what kind of reasoning do you expect from such person with the title "Imam"?
The issue here is to know if those imams also send their own children to marriage very early like this? The way these nigerian muslims, especially those from the North, used this Islam religion, even Magrebhins and egyptians, who are more related to Arabs are not behaving like this. This is due to those islamic laws adopted in Nigeria; Many of those islamic laws are adopted in Africa, only by Nigeria.
Thank you adeola ❤ You always provide a fresh insight and perspective. And consequently one is beginning to wonder if there is actually hope for this country?
@@Matasa2024leave God or Allah out of this. What is not good is not good simple. Fools always find ways to justify evil and wickedness. Shame on all that support this act all in the name of religion.
@@Matasa2024 Will you be happy to find your own daughter married out immediately you're dead? These imams and politicians are talking, but will they do it for their kids
This is madness, for the fact that these girls are being empowered shows that something is fundamentally wrong. Is that how they will keep empowering everyone in Nigeria, what about those in the South or North-east, or even all over Nigeria that has people in 10 years relationship because dem no see money start business to sustain marriage?
This is simply the level of illiteracy affecting the state in particular and Nigeria in general. Can't they figure out where those girls can be empowered through better education and professional training to improve their scope of survival in this modern world .
The ones that have education in Lagos , what have they done for nigeria? Ashawo, nor to e den bi? You think a nation can prosper without the family Unit intactqq?? The family Unit has been broken by these funny thinking most of you have. Marriage has been demoralized in the name of civilization and Africa still backward. Marriage does not stop one from learning.
@@abdullahkromah3042 It hasn't, and this is such a backward statement to make. Who told you that they are not doing ashewo every where? If men her even had the dignity to not patronise them you think it would still persist? The whole country is backwards, and it's not only about the family unit. They take marriages very seriously in the north, and there is no development. Family unit is important too, but don't act like it is perfect in other places that aren't lagos. Or do you support pedophilia?
Northern Nigeria will continue to remain poor, because they give priority to Islamic culture and not education. The women are not economically empowered to engage in any endeavor that will challenge their male counterparts. Economic empowerment coupled with education is a must for the women.
I hope this funding this minister is giving will be replicated in other parts of nigeria, where some girls suffer as well in different social, cultural, emotional, and religious plights?
This is really terrible. But why would these men not be passionate about condemning the actions of the women affairs minister? Who knows if they are benefactors of the mass wedding too. But why is the Minister even giving all these to the girls since they are supposed to be married off to Men
Adeola I love you......God will continue to bless and perfect all that concerns you......keep calling out these fools ......God will bless you abundantly 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
There's is a part of Nigeria who does that. They r d one who kept Nigeria backward . They have no brain all they know is to pack women in dozens under one man bcos they practice Islam. Oh I hate that religion with passion n I pray it is destroyed out of d world bcos is totally not a peaceful religion
Again the solution to this country is dividing. Let everyone stay on their own , when the north sees development they will change but as long as we are together , these guys will continue to drag Nigeria ... Simple!
Do you think dividing Nigeria is easy? Look at it from a perspective and also it not the whole of the north that has this issue. I understand how sad and angry you are for the way northern Nigeria is. But if you look at it, these people have two major problems religion and leaders. That's the main issue if the north. We just have to keep encouraging our northern brothers and sisters that's all we can do.
@@tonyjohnson4362 A bit of typo error. I just said let's encourage them, if someone can brainwashe them into believing in a religion then, why can't we encourage them to change
I wonder if they would have done the same with their own daughters or nieces, but it's always alright as long as they are other people's children. All those kids need is proper education and training, which is lacking in that part of the country, God help Nigeria.
This is disgusting. The level of control displayed here is just terrible. Where can an African/Black girl go on this world and be empowered? Is there a place that doesn't attempt to control the African/Black women? This is beyond annoying. Where is our right to self-determination as women of our various communities?
Honestly Adeola, if she wants the best interest of these girls, what we would do is ask them, "if they really want to get married" or want to go to school " or learn a trade or skill of some sort.. their rights as a human being is what should be considered, they are not objects without feelings you know. Marrying them off won't solve any problem rather it will reproduce a cycle of such again and again, the same reason why we have them around in the first place will be multiplied over and over. Am just tired of this country sef. 😢
Why didn't the so called honorable think of empowering the girls like the women minister ? Adeola made a good point about the Northern part being the way they are because the girls or women that would become mothers to raise generations are not empowered trained to be who they need to be , its going to be a cycle of mediocrity. I just pray we will have more people like the minister whose aim is seeking for the good not selfishness.
Lol? She didn’t even say she’ll cancel it. She halted it to investigate if the girls are of age, have consented, if the suitors are financially stable etc. I can’t believe this man.
The northern should start learning from saudi where woman are being empowered and Allow to marry when they are sure they will be protected. This happening in Nigeria is failure of government and poverty level
The year is 2024 and this is Nigeria. This how de living nah Falz- 💔 Other countries are dev tech, building infrastructure and connecting to the global community 😢
....the minister is more wrong because she should have stood her ground instead of giving in...let all hell blow loose, the world will now know and she would have been an international symbol....she just blew an opportunity, she should have sacrificed her office for what was right...
This is so unfair to these women. Education is best thing you can offer anybody especially women, if women are educated they will educate their children. Years ago when Oprah Winfrey asked President Mandela of South Africa what she can do to help South Africa , Mandela told Oprah Winfrey that help educate the young women they will educate their children , so this man what these young girls to get married and destroy their future God is watching
Adeola check and see what Ghana government has just done for about 1000 girls from the north to the city to do head potter , the government has built a very hostile giving them good training of some trade and give them money to start their business after that . Kudos to Ghana government ❤
I hope the minister is ready to keep doing this. Many more girls would be ready to marry based on cultural and religious practices and not necessarily to improve the lives of the people. Shalom 🙏
What a shame!!! We are in a malady. We're raising a bunch of lazy people, this is what the speaker and imams should have done first not the minister of women affairs taking a lead. Marriage is not a ticket to respect, we must break this religious improvishment.
Their love ones were not killed by bandits, they were killed by Muslims. This is one of the main reasons why Africa is poor despite great mineral wealth.
