As many middle aged golf nuts, I've watched many videos from different 'tubers'. But none IMHO really discuss course management - it's all about golf equipment or swing mechanics. When in fact what you show us is how to think about the course, see the opportunities and understand your best approach is the way to improve your score better. You've helped me think deeply and properly about my game and how to use my modest skills to improve my scores and enjoyment of golf. Thank you. Keep up the excellent content. I've been playing golf for 42 years and always learn something from you Matty, you're a total Baus!!

Most of the time, I don't worry about the score. I just play what I envision to be the best shots and take the bogeys and double bogeys, even triple bogeys as they come. This gives me many insights on what to do and not to do. Over time, my scores got better, my techniques got better. I also play more on Pitch & Putt courses to improve the short game. I feel the driving range is only good for warming up, correcting flaws and fine tuning. Then again, hitting off a mat is not realistic. No sure if any of you do the same thing.

Incredible Coach! After my 2 last rounds of 84 & 83, shaved almost 8 strokes on the same course, aiming towards the back of the green, 23 putts and my buddies laughed after dunking 2 chips and yelling NINJA!!! Oh and I had forgotten my drive at home...Confidential!

Quick comment regarding short game, from a man who shoots 85-95. I added a simple chipper this season. Even a duffer like me can run it to a respectable distance from the pin, from a range of lies. This club alone has my handicap slowly tracking downward. Swallow your bloody pride and add a chipper, unless you're actually good at golf.

Great mental thought processes, More importantly where in the world is that gorgeous golf course. Rolling hills, stunning greenery and bright blue sky. Is it near the sea? Do you have an NHS level health programme. I feel the urge to move to warmth.

Changed my game so much for the better, not hitting the ball better with longer clubs but I've learned I dont need to, place the ball better and play my good clubs more often from better position

Honestly this is the way golf is to be played …. Most people just want to rip the ball and see what happens… everyone should be studying every ol Matt has to say … he’s dropping knowledge

All of this is even more true where I live. Massive elevation change on a lot of holes . Missing the fairway or green leaves you crazy side hill chips/pitches , deep bluegrass rough and so on.

Hi matt, I have watched many of your videos over the years. I'd like to ask for a special tip, more for the golfers who play near the 6 handicap who struggle with the the hands and swing path consistency and keeping the two within a few degrees of each other. How would you practice? Do you focus fully on swing tempo for a while. Many times getting consistency with my irons would destroy my long irons and driver play and vice versa.

Your "easy chip" just about made me fall off my chair... I do love this approach and need to do it more. I usually think backwards form the green while at the tee, but have been focusing on distances to break up the hole, but not about the possible misses along the way! It should be a simple addition to my course management thinking, just a few more seconds might make a huge difference.

Matty Boom-Boom…..I need clarification on the chipping concept. I almost exclusively avoid going high on chips and opt for the lower shots. However, there are times on longer chips it feels like the ball gets up in the air more because of the distance I need to cover. Does this shot going moderately higher result in a higher class of dirty ho or a lower class of dirty ho? Or, does it completely offset the ho and I am neither crying because I technically did not ‘go high’ but I also did not ‘hit it low’. I’m fine either way.

Most importantly learn and enjoy. Laugh when you slide under the ball learn and remember for the next time. I enjoy practicing chipping. Part of how I learn is to fail. Sometimes for weeks before I will finally have that aha moment. Search for your aha moments. I was having issues with down hill chips especially out of thick ruff. After weeks of trial and error not only did I figure it out I discovered a whole new level of being able to stop the ball.

God I love chipping; my short game is the strength of my golf game as I spend so much time on the chipping green. Now if only I could hit a tee shot with a driver properly.
