That’s what we do up here. Icelandic, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are related languages, Finnish is from another origin. Everyone jokes about the languages (basically how the language sounds) and it’s totally fine because it’s true. We have similar lifestyles but the little differences unique to each country are special and also easy to joke about. Check out Ari Eldjárn comedy about Nordics. Hi from Helsinki

Irishman here (so a Celt not a Nordic), this was good fun and ribbing from 5 nations that do recognise their differences but still delight in the things/attitudes that that bring them together. You have to be close and have respect for one another to be able to play up stereotypes so well. Still grateful there hasn't been a viking raid on Ireland for approx 1000 years ;-))

I saw no hate in this video, just sibling rivalry. Because it's true, us swedes are boring!! Many of us have an exteremily small comfort zone amd it's important to follow be group and blend in. Finland the brother from across the water that have gone through more hardship and may seem a bit bitter, and although they have a whole different language we can relate deeply to them. Iceland is like that distant cousin you've only heard about and don't really know, but we're interested in visiting them. Denmark is the relaxed and cool brother from out of town that we'd love to hang out with if we understood what they're saying, and Norway is the retarded brother who won the lottery. Thanks for uploading!! Greetings from Sweden

Yes they had something called slow TV in Norway and they watched trains and boats in real time. In the Nordic countries we a just like siblings so we joke about each other, nothing serious at all. We live in harsh conditions and we have a little bit harsh sense of humour, nothing serious. Love and peace from Sweden.

I'm Swedish. Please don't be offended on our behalf hahha! We have specific jokes about the other countries, and often a specific one in particular depending on the country. For example, in Sweden people tend to joke about Norwegians, and "hate" on Denmark (probably because of our history), as well as some of the languages. One joke can be "Do you know why the Norwegian takes a car door with him when he goes out into the desert?" "No, why?" "So that he can open it when it gets too hot." Stuff like that; often based on word play as well. While I myself don't like most of these jokes nowadays, I have never heard anyone actually say these things in earnest.

Yeah that's the problem with being offended on the behalf of others, they might not know how the people actually feels. So it's actually rude to be offended for others, assuming they are weak and need the help and that you know what they are feeling.

In Sweden and Norway we tell the same jokes about eachother. We have slow tv here in Sweden too in the spring. It shows moose wanderings 24/7. Lots of cameras in the nature at the same place every year that show the moose wandering from the coast up to the mountins. It's true that when someone say I love you in finnish it almost sound like they are angry at you for us non finnish. I've had finnish girlfriends and we had fun about that. I love a real finnish wood burning sauna and salmiakki is good realy good. Two heavy metal bands from Finland is Lordi and Nightwish. The Swedes was singing a "snapsvisa" Don't know in english. It's a little song you sing before you drink a shot with pure booze at a dinner party. All the comments about eachother is that we are like siblings. We can make fun but no hard feelings.
@souvik169

i dont think its harsh at all. It just some casual ribbing. Its very healthy sort of sibling rivalry actually. They behave like actual siblings. I never once felt any of them dehumanize another on racial, gender or economic terms. I WISH more nations had such a bond of friendly rivalry. In times of crisis people like that tend to stick together. Because all that rivalry makes them an important part of each other's lives.

Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark are originally populated by Scandinavian peoples and have related languages. The Finns are totally different and would have nothing to do with the rest of the bunch, but a thousand years ago the Finns figured out that hanging out with the Swedes is a better idea than hanging out with the Russians. When back in the 1200's Sweden became a real kingdom with a strong central power, Finland was incorporated into it just like other Swedish 'lands' like Uppland or Gotland, regardless to the language spoken here. For the next 600 years Finland developed as part of Sweden. The laws, government and society were Swedish, to the point that when nationalism became a trend in the 1800's, it took a lot of effort to find and present the qualities that made Finland somehow different than the rest of Sweden, as it was so similar. Today the Swedes may seem like foreigners in Finland, but if you travel and meet a Swede in some faraway country, you are likely to ask, if he has any news from home, as you would ask a family friend or a neighbor. The same goes with the rest of the Nordics. You know and feel they are your kind of people, with a somewhat similar background, values and experiences, similar societies and common history. Of course there are the stereotypes and jokes, but deep in our hearts we know that in this world we are rowing the same open Viking ship in the middle or a rough ocean, with people one can trust.

As Swede I know as a fact: Danes sound like they eat hot porridge when they talk. Fins have hot temperament, drink a lot of alkohol and use the sauna every day. Norwegians are a little bit "behind"; not very intelligent - but rich. Icelanders live isolated on a little island far away, and they are a mystery to us. And they all need us Swedes to take care of them. Yep! Every Swede knows that! 😁

The Norwegian TV shows referred to here is by no means the only thing available from Norwegians to watch, but refers to a handful of one-off TV programs gaining the moniker «Slow TV». The premise of the first of these shows was somebody putting a camera up front in the cockpit of a train locomotive, and thus filming, in real time, the entire train ride from Bergen to Oslo, lasting 7+ hours. This sparked a trend, spawning many such shows in Norway and elsewhere.

Slow-TV was invented by norway and the first brodcast was the trainride from Oslo to Bergen "minute by minute" streamed on the biggest national brodcaster. You get a frontseat view to 8h of intensly beautiful norwegain nature... then came a lot of other consept in the same spirit. Like hurtigruten "Minute by minute" (the ship) , wich i think was the longest ever live brodcasted tv-show. Its much longer the 12h. My Swedish, Norwegian and Danish friends can all basically understand each they tell me. Don’t take all the facts at face value, they’re just having fun and all respect and love each. It’s just banter. It’s normal to make fun of the other countries we love in Europe on the whole. 😉👍. Denmark, Sweden and Norway are all part of the same international national airline called SAS (Scandinavian Airlines).

Sad to say but ... Slow-TV was/is a thing ... the boat-trip actually took 5 days !!! while there have been train, following reindeers, watching someone knit for 12 hours or so, even singing all the songs in a churchbook or something like that, also several hours watching a Porks rib grilling for christmas 😛 There are youtubevideos about these ... just search Norway and slow-TV and you get results. While we do love to take a swing at eachother, we still are cousins and will defend eachother of other comes and do the same. As a norwegian we ofcourse love our Icelandic cousins, and we call the swedes for "Søta bror" or well direct translated it is "Sweet brother" and the danish .. come to think I can't remember what we call them, they call us "Snow Monkeys" or "Fjellaper" (that is direct translated to mountainmonkey)... and our finnish brothers ofcourse we love them ... (I'm part finnish also, anchestry is Kven).

Well the reason they are hardest on sweden is because sweden were hard on them in history. Sweden and Norway have bad blood. Sweden and Denmark practically flip a coin on whose time it is to attack the other. Sweden also played ping-pong whit Russia and used Finland as the ball. So whit all this chaos behind oss we became close where we joke and fight like brothers.

In general, we really like each other in these countries. We are the same people except the Finns but they have been part of Sweden so they are brothers. Yes Norway has had programs about where a ship travels for several hours .. Sweden has owned both Norway and Finland so they have a bit of a little brother complex but now they are richer and a bit more successful so they have started bragging, especially Norwegians. Denmark has lost part of its land to Sweden and it probably stings a bit. But they are more European than the rest so they are more businesslike and street smart.

We both love and hate eachother to the core. What related cultures and people’s are like. Swedes tends to be nicer than Danes… Swedes are dumber than Norwegians tho, because there’s always some dumb Swede in the comments🤡 And we don’t take it seriously. Norwegians are closer with Swedes, and the majority of us here in Norway have Swedes in their family. My aunt and 3rd cousin’s husband are Swedes. We also belong to cultures that are famous for being dead honest, we don’t sugar coat the truth or walk around the bush. Which is why we may be seen as cold, or rude. Mean even, but that’s because we prefer to be real instead of fake polite and shallow like in the US where everyone seem nice, but it’s only surface level. I’m not Norwegian ethnically, but by nationality as I’m adopted, grew up here during the 90’s and 2000’s. My bf is Icelandic (Norwegian and Irish/Scottish as all Icelanders are). And tbh to understand this video you actually need historical and cultural context. Foreigners and outsiders won’t be able to understand any of it. And yes slow TV is a thing, and it’s not because there’s nothing to do or because we don’t have hobbies. Those dumb Swedes doesn’t even know the context them selves which is why they are dumb🤣🙄🫣🫠🚮👀🤡
