My top 10 what not to do in Thailand cultural tips. When I first arrived in Thailand, I wasn't aware of the culture and the things I should avoid doing. Things that are second nature in your home country can be forbidden or even illegal in Thailand. In today's vlog, I go over 10 of the things you want to try and avoid doing in Thailand. Thailand has different rules and these rules should be respected. I knew some of these but I wish i had done my research on some of the rules I didn't know about.
Do's and Dont's living a Thai life.

Good list Wayne. I also made the mistake of patting a bar girl on the head at John's Place (miss that bar) and she freaked. Never did that again. There are pedestrian lights near the North gate but don't assume traffic will stop if you have a green light. Another big don't do is lose your cool and raise your voice. Again I really upset a hotel receptionist because I showed frustration and anger over some issue. I smoothed it over with her but she was really upset and almost in tears. It achieves nothing flying off the handle over there.

Good one Wayne👍🏻. Just adding a quick one: 11. Don’t try to hug someone as a greeting unless you have explicit consent. Greeting verbally is good enough usually. SE Asians have different ideas about personal boundaries🙈🙈.

Awesome video! Here in Tangiers, every street is FILLED, no PACKED with pedestrians, cars and the innumerable petit blue taxis. Everyone is constantly jostling for their own space but I haven't seen any one get hit by a car yet. It's like this MASSIVE understanding between cars and the crowds of pedestrians to respect each other no matter what. Also, I, sometimes, will hand some of the begging children change. They are so respectful. They'll approach me and say, "Bonjour". Then shake my hand. I give them one dirham (10 cents); sometimes I ruffle the young lads' hair. And they always say, "Merci beaucoup." Would this get me in trouble in Thailand? I just find comparing different country's cultures truly fascinating! 😃
@WalkAboutWayne
@WalkAboutWayne 2 года назад
Always great to hear your storys about Tangiers Brian. I think "ruffle the young lads hair" would be best avoided in Thailand mate. I'm not sure that would go down well. Thanks.

@@WalkAboutWayne , yes, good to know and thank you. I have degrees in psychology and biology. Would love to do a formal study one day on cultural differences in interpersonal body contact. I would say in the U.S., today, roughly half the population do NOT want to be touched by anyone outside of immediate family while the other half are very touchy feely. I fall into the latter because of how I was raised where physical affection was abundant. I've always stated that human beings are the most interesting species on the planet! 😃

hold the child's head But don't touch your friends' heads. Because Thai people consider their heads to be high. But the truth is that the head is the most important thing in the body. Don't point your feet because it's like an insult because feet are considered low When entering the house, take off your shoes. to keep the soil or dust into the house as well

I asked my partner about the child’s head as she has a niece and I’ve been touching her head when hot wiping away sweat and she says absolutely no problem at all. Touching an adults head different game altogether. Her family also laughed at the feet comment. Maybe it applies in some areas but up here in Isaan no one cares about pointed feet

Thai people are about etiquette. and seniority are important such as raising hands to respect adults, thanking, walking through adults must bow. getting the elderly, pregnant women, and the disabled to sit at us, lining up, and not getting involved in other people's affairs. with people who are not very close Thai people will keep their distance for your privacy Unless they start to get close to each other to talk to. and if next to each other They often share food to support each other. such as watering the plants or take care of the house while we travel or run errands and in addition to your independence and personal but ready to help If you need help always and maybe give more than you need. and may share food or water with unknown people. In the past, Thai people would have clay pots in front of their houses. to quench the thirst for pedestrians

My friend is a woman attending a meeting at the National Bank of ASEAN countries. in manila and saw people kissing or holding hands in public places she can't accept And she's usually a person who doesn't fear anything. But there she said that there were eyes staring at her. When she looked at those people's eyes, they didn't turn away. The way that Thai people hide away and the guard is a machine gun It made her even more afraid.
