For the sprint: you should have left space for your teammate and forced Timy to close the gap. You could have put yourself back in 3rd position and made Timy work. that's what i would have done 😇
Ugh I feel ya still rode throughout the winter but way slower and less power….waiting for that beautiful first day where I don’t have to have 10 layers to not freeze to death 😆
Tactical question: on mistake #2, to be fair, you didn’t bring the field with you up to the break. And I know in previous videos you’ve said that if you find it absolutely necessary to get to a teammate in the break, you have to make sure to get a good separation before trying to bridge (otherwise you’ll drag the field). Now, in this scenario, it clearly didn’t work out (and in general it usually doesn’t when you chase teammates, as you emphasize). However, provided the following hypothetical assumptions 1) you’re in optimal race shape and have a winning sprint in your legs and 2) Timmy is more likely to beat Ryan in a sprint (not sure if this is true but let’s imagine so), would it not be decent calculus to actually make it to the break with your teammate, provided you get there alone and don’t bring anyone with you? Then you have a higher chance of your team winning the reduced sprint. Let me know if I’m overthinking this muahaha. Great video as always!
Sometimes bridging up alone could galvanize the pack into chasing the the break down so there’s a lot of calculus involved. And Ryan could gap Timmy (and most of the rest of us) on the final lap if he were fresh and willing. I’d say normally Ryan would chase down Blaine in the depicted scenario and Jeff would let the wheel go, forcing Timmy to chase or sprint vs Jeff for table scraps. Timmy is a much smaller dude than Jeff, Ryan and Blaine so that may lead to underestimating him sometimes.
I was literally typing out "How often does traffic affect these Alviso races?" when that exact thing happened. Some of these right-on-red turns seem pretty sketchy! Especially the one at 6:47. It's easy to get tunnel vision during a race and you'd think close calls or accidents would be fairly common here.
Yea they've got a bit of alleycat in them here, that's for sure. Not sure I'd be very happy if I was going by and somebody slides out cornering at 30+ into the path of my car (or bicycle) and I hurt them even more.
I watch these videos and am so motivated to ride, but simply cannot seem to find affordable gear. I've been shopping the used market ferociously for road shoes, a road jersey, and road pedals. I have some stuff. A set of mountain bike shoes that have a torn toe. Mountain spd pedals that are a very well-used (both given to me by a family member). And a cheap, baggy jersey (from aliexpress). Idk how you guys can swing the expenses of cycling! Also, if anyone has any used gear that they'd be willing to part with or recommendations, please let me know! Shoes size 11.5. Hoping to find pedals that don't have a tendency to get bent (maybe Ultegra?). Jersey size M/L (6'2" 175lbs).
A thought: When you put the rear view camera up in the corner, could you mirror it, so a rider coming up your right side appears on the right side of the inlay video, too?
1 min 10 sec - the commentary seems rather negative; but would you ever see a silver lining in that you could force a break with that effort, commit to it and maybe see it thru to the end?
@@sepg5084 It is laughable because 60 degree weather can be considered "fair" to many other places in the world that are further north like the UK or the East Coast (minus Florida). 60 degree weather can mean rocking short sleeves elsewhere, they have mild cold weather gear since they are trying to imitate "normal" temps which would otherwise be too hot to attempt for many people.
Your teammate should have dropped as he did, looked at you, asked "wtf r u doing?!" and then pulled off and let you in the draft in the middle "of nowhere" :D
