There are a half dozen or more things Not To Do when worm fishing. I cover every bad thing that I see fishermen do. I talk about rods, weights, leaders, line, how to hold the rod, when to set the hook and what size hooks are best with different size worms.

I agree with you on the leader in clear water. But my rule of thumb is one arm's length plus half. Who want's to keep retying leaders if you're not having any luck on the water. This will give you plenty of leader to make bait changes through out the day. Much respect Mr. Martin and really enjoy your RU-vid channel.

Good job Roland, I was fishing High Rock Lake a few weeks back with a Green Pumpkin Worm by Zoom with my Uncle Ronnie near Salisbury NC, and one fish I caught I was able to get a hook set off a dock, but another fish I missed the line was running and I could not set the, I miss fish like this and I thought about using a Zebco reel with a bait alert, As I have caught panfish and catfish with one, you made the point a lite weight my late Uncle Dabery who was the first man to ever win the NC State, Grand National, and World Championship in Squirrel Hunting Treeing Competition and was a good bass angler who placed in some local and region tournaments told me to try some without weight, I will take both advice and try.

When I use the Wacky rig or Neko rig, I use a 2/0 Octopus Circle hook that reduces snags and greatly reduces gut hooking, yet reliably hooks the bass in the lip.

Back in the day in the early 70s a warm rod was 5 feet tough 5 1/2 feet long as stiff as a broomstick and that was when pistol grip grips were popular so all you had was your wrist to hold onto the fish and set the hook

It's a pleasure listening to you, Sharing your experiences of do's and don'ts. I will defiantly switch to a heaver pole when worm fishing. I've been a wacky rig guy for quite a while now. I got used to using a light spinner pole about 6 feet long. Last year I set up a bait caster with a med/heavy 7,3' rod Texas and ned rigging. What a difference in action.

This is good advice for southern fishing but up here in the north I throw small worms with small weight and I don't do it with a 7 foot rod and fifty pound line lol I use a light to medium action rod with some 10 pound stren and I've caught bass 6 pounds easily and you ain't catching bass bigger than that where I live the state record has been 10 pounds for 40 years
