Next time you go to Maui you can stay in the Kamaole One condos on Charley Young Beach and you won't have to walk to the beach because it's right out the back door. Great place to stay in Kihei.
Loved this video! We leave In just a few days for Maui, I’m soaking up every bit of info I can get as this is the furthest we have ever traveled and first time in Hawaii. I did make sure our condo has air con, I can’t not even fathom just using fans for a week! Lol. Thanks again for sharing all your tips, so helpful!
Love your videos - i watch them over and over. Hawaii is the best place on earth. I have been there 8 times. I don’t have a trip planned, but when i do, i know exact what i will take and how to pack it - thank you!!
In 2015 I moved from hub-city of Columbus Ohio to spoke-center Des Moines. Now I can’t go anywhere without a layover. Do you have any tips for layovers? Pee first or eat first? Try to squeeze your roller bag into the stall or trust you can leave it out? Where to find a wheelchair if you have a quick layover due to weather and your running days are long gone? Pack snacks or a sandwich or trust the crowds won’t be huge at the food court? Things like that and I’m sure there are more your brain will pop with. ❤️👍
I know this is an older video, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you! I followed your videos for a trip to Washington state and everything went smoothly because of your videos. My next vacation is going to be Hawaii and you can’t imagine how happy I was to see this video!!! You are a god send! Thank you!
Hi Laurie! Awesome tips. I’m heading to Hawaii at the end of the month for a ten-day outing at three islands: Maui, Kauai & Oahu; staying with my relatives who live there. Another tip is packing mosquito spray, long pants, loose long sleeve sweater, socks & hiking shoes since Kauai has so many mosquitoes both night & day, especially when hiking. Since I live near San Francisco, a flight to Hawaii is about 5-6 hours 😍 (Another bonus tip, if you have relatives living in Hawaii, bring something cordial from the mainland before vacationing there. Items like fresh frozen seafood in an insulated cooling box is an example. Fresh fruits & vegetables are prohibited under Hawaii agricultural inspection)
Super important tip: Make SURE that your Covid test site in your state is on the approved Hawaii list. My grown daughter is in Hawaii right now and was under quarantine for 72 hours because the place where she had her test done in Tennessee told her they were on the list, but they were not. She was not allowed to go to the condo her father had rented for them to stay (they were spreading the ashes of her step-mom per her wishes on the beach), but instead, he had to rent a 3-night stay at the Hilton for her to stay separately to the tune of almost $1,000. He had to bring her groceries (gluten-free) and she had a monitoring wristband placed on her. She has been released today after paying another fee to have another test done there (negative) and now has one day and a half in the condo on the beach before she returns home. Needless to say, it was devastating. PLEASE make sure you have a valid negative Covid test done at an approved site or vaccination proof before you set a toenail in Hawaii.
The usual quarantines are 10 days with no testing to get out. So sad this happened to her but at least they let her test again. It's terrible that testing places are telling travelers they are an approved facility. :'(
I am traveling from Chicago to Houston in a few days and I have very bad anxiety. I flied once this year but I was with my dad who has tsa precheck but this time I am going through regular tsa. Your videos have helped me from trouble, thanks Laurie!
Thank you for watching. I pray you have a peaceful time even if mistakes happen. You may want to be at the airport 2 hours before the flight boards (not departs) so that you do not feel like you're in a hurry and can relax.
I love your videos Laurie and your packing tips helped me so much. This comment isn't meant to be negative but I just wanted to share this info. My sister lives in Hawaii and she told me that only tourists wear Hawaiian shirts and dresses so it is easy to spot tourists because they wear Hawaiian looking clothing. So if you want to blend in with people that live there, just wear your regular clothes and not Hawaiian looking things.
Again, I love your focus on comfortable, supportive shoes and multifunctional sandals (water friendly yet still look smart - more companies could focus on this). Nice to acknowledge that you can go out to restaurant without wearing heels. I also take spare ziplock plastic bags. A spare pair of old glasses, especially if you wear multifocals - if you lose or break it's not easy to replace, or take your older pair on adventures/beach. I also take slides (Birkenstocks) for airport (security) and plane (slip off easily, slip on to move around cabin).
Our trip starts Jan.8,2022 to Hawaii! I bought Hawaiian print swim cover ups from land send, can also wear them to dinner on our cruise. Love your videos!
The only vacation we have this year that hasn’t been cancelled it to Oahu to visit our son who lives there. This will be my 4time there, the first was our honeymoon in 1988. Your packing/travel videos are awesome! Thank you!! Great suggestions for my upcoming trip.
Looks like you had a great time. Always sad to leave. We usually stay in a timeshare and those coffee filters are important. Love your tips. God bless.
This was such a great video for us! We are flying to Maui for our 25th anniversary in August with our two grown children. Definitely sharing this video with them.
Thanks so much. July 9 for 3 weeks and 2 islands. BTW, our favorite snorkel vendor is Trilogy on Maui Wonderful people. We actually took warm clothes for Haleakala sunrise and then mailed them home in USPS fixed rate priority box. Great tip about coffee filters. Lots of uses, just like zip plastic bags. If you are in a condo or rental house, bring along pill box size containers of lemon pepper, simple spice mixes, etc. to avoid buying them. Have a couple of quick meals in mind. That lemon pepper is great on grilled fresh fish! Save a little on eating out. If you can fit it in your liquids bag, a small bottle of veg oil or EVOO, is also worth bringing along to avoid buying and abandoning a bottle.
When I was in the big island I got a 3 pack of grocery bags reusable on Amazon. So cool I gave my cousin one of them and the other one to my friend. I have one in by purse at all times can carry a couple of gallon of anything in them very strong plus little bag to hold them. Beach and grocery Very important.
Hi Laurie, I'm planning at trip to Disney and Universal next year and I came across your wonderful, informative vlogs ! You are so knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you so much and please keep posting. We don't fly alot and need this valuable information!!
Really? I have read in alot of places that you should wear 100% cotton for breathability. They say anything else will make you sweat and not allow your skin to breath enough.
@@glorygracek.1841 Both are good materials for hot weather in terms of breathability and staying cool, though synthetics tend to retain more of that sweaty smell.
In Hawaii, as you are sightseeing, you can jump into the ocean, shower off at the beach, then continue with your sightseeing. Repeat the same throughout the day. Cottons will be damp and heavy.
This video was fabulous. Ironically, my hubby and I just finished booking everything for our honeymoon to Maui for this year (aside from a few activities). Thank you so much for this video!!
I suggest bringing two bathing suits so you always have a dry one; two piece suits are better for some activities. I like thin dresses over my swimsuit for store to beach wear. The dresses I bring can also be worn to restaurants at night. Also bring SPF shirts (rash guards) and pants or shorts. The sun in Hawaii is no joke and you will burn even on a cloudy day. it can get cold at night trade winds) so plan on having a sweater or light jacket.
I think this was one of your best videos yet! My son is heading out on a beach vacation next month and now I have some excellent ideas for his birthday. Also, I just finished reading The Silent Patient…amazing book.
I also have high arches and I have Merrill sandals but my foot doctor told me to always travel with 2 pair of running shoes for a lot of walking and arch support.I loved how you explained that spending a day in beach sandals was not good for your feet and I could relate. I did not know about the stash bands. I watch every new video you put out but this video seemed to teach me a lot of new things which I appreciated. I also loved that you included a book recommendation. Unfortunately my husband and I are stuck in Canada but hopefully that will soon change! See you next week!
Terrific videos! I'm going to subscribe. I was a little taken aback when you said in Maui you have to walk across the street to the beach. I think you meant in Kihei. I've never stayed anywhere (all over Maui) that was across the street from the beach. Looking forward to more videos.
Thank you Ms Laurie for these tips, especially the sneaker/ankle support shoe tip. My husband, 3 yr old son and I are Hawaii bound ( first time) in September!
Just found your videos & we’re heading to Hawaii on Thur. Really enjoying your content. You could do an updated sandals for beach and other since most of these links are no good any more. Thoughts on whether sandals ok to visit Hawaii Volcanos National Park?
Laurie- I just love your videos! We are planning on traveling to Ireland in the fall and your videos are so helpful especially what has changed at the airport! Blessings!
Laurie, do you have a link to your white with black beach bag (with the strap)? Great idea clipping the strap to your beach chair. Can't wait to travel again!
Thanks for the tips specifically for Hawaii. My family is planning a trip there next year. Did your family fly standby to Hawaii? Just curious. (I’m a former ticket agent) Love and Happiness, Teresa
Good tips - nice to hear even you forget things sometimes :) BTW - Go to your library and get an older novel by Flynn - Transfer of Power, it is very good.
Highly recommend the Vera Bradley sling , in the reactive fabric . I got the mini and standard size and it the most functional sling I’ve ever owned ! In love with it
I recommend a phone bag...its sand and water proof...you can get a 2 pack for less than $10. You can even use it under Water...with a lanyard just so you won't drop it like on a kayak.
We are planning Hawaii for our next big trip. 🥰🥰 Also, we just got back from Vegas and neither the New Orleans airport nor the Vegas airport asked for our liquids bag. I wonder if that is something that is being removed? Or is it just an airport decision? Also - Downloading movies was a great recommendation! I did that and also RU-vid videos. So nice!
It's great but frustrating. Some TSAs have newer technology or there is a lower security threat?? But another day in the same airport they will make you take out everything. I wish they were consistent, but we will be ready.
I'm going to give you beauty tip. Those white spots you are starting to get can be taken care of with Selsun Blue shampoo. Use it when you shower on your arms. It doesn't take long to work. It only took me a week. I got the tip from Dominique Sachse's channel.
Thanks a lot for all informative videos.(absolutely helps me a lot for coming up my 1st Hawaii trip in Sep)AND I have a question for you. I'm looking for carry on bag and I like your backpack in this video and other video(same black&stripe one) how do you like it during your Hawaii trip?
I absolutely loved it. It's easy to put on if that makes sense. It has tons of organization. It sits up on its own, and I even took it to Boston this weekend. Mahalo
It's easier to us to not have to fuss with it. It's so much fun! There were probably 30 people on our boat, and it does not take long to get your equipment-they've got it down to a science.
Thanks for all the tips Laurie! I love that little white dress with pink amd yellow leaves from Kohl’s. How does it fit? Is it really loose? I am between a xs amd small. Should I size up or down? Did you get your normal size? Thanks!
Great question! I ordered both M and L. I sized up because of length; I'm 5'8" and my normal M was too short for my comfort. So I sized up and the L was loose under the pits so I wear it with a bralette that is blush pink colored. It's fun!
Ok now I have looked a few times and cannot find that download arrow on Netflix. I am viewing on my iPad. Please help. Love your videos. Leaving for Maui in 6 days
Hi Sue! Once I download the show, I leave Netflix. When I come back, it's at the very bottom. You can also search on RU-vid How to Download Shows from Netflix onto Your Phone.
Can you please do one for fidgets because on the 20th I’m flying way to Cypress and I’m hoping to bring some of my fidgets which is actually 20th of June if you didn’t understand.
Hi we loved Magic Maui. They were not party central so we appreciated that if that makes sense. But they were fun and relational but not "let's get as drunk as we can..."
I ordered the sling backpack and the waterproof tote. We go to st Pete Florida and Riviera Maya! I want a link to the 2 floral dresses, please! The flounce skirt is cute but not my style. Thank you🌺
I am looking for the 2 you showed before the kohl’s with the ruffle. They look like aline without the ruffle. One is pink flowers and one is turquoise.
Don't forget a medium or wide brim hat. Not only to protect your face and eyes from the sun, but also (depending on the island) occasional rain showers. It's always warm there, so even if getting your body wet is no big deal, it is annoying to have your face and hair rained on.
Hi Good video I am new new member my is Michelle From Essex in the UK Can you tell me the name of the beach bag or where you bought it from Thanks you Michelle 🇬🇧
Can you link where to buy the beach bag? It looks like a great size for me. Also, do they make reef safe sunblock with a higher spf? I’m very fair and burn extremely fast.
Hi Karen. I must've forgotten to add the link in the description box. Here it is: bit.ly/3egJycw and I would just type in reef safe in Amazon to see. I remember little blue bottles. I also recommend using your reliable one for the rest of the vacation or try out the reef safe kind before you stay in the sun all day just to see how it works on your body.
I'll be traveling with my 2 year old and I'll be only taking 2 personal items with me, my backpack purse and my son's diaper back, I have packed a bunch of different toys for him and put then in a one gallon ziploc bag plus a bunch of snacks also in a one gallon bag do I have to put the snack abag and toy back out on the different trays or on the same one, or do I even have to take out the toy bag out of the diaper bag? I want to make sure I pass through the security as smoothly as possible. Any other tips that u can give me when traveling with my 2 year old thanks.
You do not need to take out toys. The TSA is not being strict about food at all. Remember you'll never see anyone again. So just get there early and know you will sweat a ton so wear layers lol.
Also, we all know that the days before Thanksgiving are the busiest at the airport, but what are the least busy days. I’ve travelled on New Year’s Eve a couple of times and have been amazed at how empty the airports are. Even traveling from Las Vegas - except for the giant who sat behind me and poked me when I tried to recline my seat. It was a red eye for heaven’s sake and I am not your mother who grew you to be so tall. But I obligingly sat upright the whole flight while he reclined - because you know he is a jerk. So any hints about the oldest controversy in flying - recline or not?
i’m 13 and going to Hawaii this weekend will i have to go through the metal detector and be able to keep my shoes on or will i have to take of my shoes and go through the big scary screening machine. I just turned 13 so i don’t know and i’m getting the worst anxiety before my trip. thank you so much for these awesome travel tips!! :)
Hi, they were Tommy Bahama. Here is their newest. They do not cling and do not wrinkle easily and are not see-through. And I do not feel too dressy in them either: bit.ly/3g3XWVb
We are staying in a hotel in hawaii. Not looking forward to 8 hours with a mask! EVEN WHEN YOU'RE SLEEPING IN FIRST CLASS! Ridiculous! It also makes no sense that everyone gets tested before they fly then you still have to wear a mask.
