Arms Race is a really fun game mode. I wish more people gave it a chance. It's a 10 minute match and you either win all, or lose all. It's frustrating to secure a kill with some weapons, but that's part of the experience. Because only a small player base played Arms race, we kind of had a tight community on those servers, and I could always find friends and knowns. It was truly so 'casual'.

CS:GO pre 2015 was a whole other experience. It was so easy to jump into a casual community server and find a great community and have fun. It feels like that has been dead for a long time now. I really do hope we see a resurgence in that scene and spotlight on it from Valve.
@bigshmuck3562
@bigshmuck3562 7 месяцев назад
Unfortunately this feels the same for many server browser based games. When Discord really took off, you saw many communities for servers across multiple games (GMod had me feeling this first) moving to it rather than in-game communication. This allows for better mic quality, easier modding, easier for the community to talk, etc. I really dislike it as a player who loves to talk in games, but it makes sense. I miss those days a ton.

Yup this is exactly how I felt about the launch of the game. They wanted to push it out, and make sure its core gameplay was perfect, which honestly didn't seem possible with the limited amount of people in the beta, but now is much much faster and easier for them to get large large amounts of data to then clean up and polish the core. While also slowly working towards finishing it out. Hopefully in a years time or even in a few months time we'll see a large jump in the things you can do in CS2, and Valve have put out for it!

Honestly it's been fading for a long time. The community makes such incredible workshop maps, yet whenever I used to go on the community server browser people were just playing Mirage, Dust 2, Nuke, and various aim training maps. Eventually I decided to make my own server hosting a ton of community maps, but over the year I ran it I only had two people join my server while I was on it, and they didn't stay long. The current playerbase just wants to play the same maps over and over for the rest of time; there's no drive for new experiences, new content, new maps, new gamemodes, etc. Look at how the reaction to the loadouts was 'I'm so glad I can finally get rid of all the bad guns', as opposed to wanting Valve to address the actual issue by balancing all the weak and useless guns to make them playable. I've seen people say stuff like 'it's good they removed war games, those were boomer gamemodes'. People actually want less content in their game.

These misadventures in private were the heart of the game to me, and I hope to see them return fully reborn, or at the very least, refreshed, with the power of the new hammer editor which looks like a breeze compared to the wheezing geriatric that was the original hammer editor.

Thanks for talking about this. I've always enjoyed the more casual, sandboxy side of Counter-Strike and have never had a shred of interest in competitive play or esports. Almost all of my time has been spent mucking around with the guns and bots in offline practice modes and workshop maps. The problem with a lot of multiplayer games these days is that they tend to lean so heavily into rigid, high-stakes, competitive play that they lose sight of all the little things that make the game just plain and simple fun.

Great video, I really dislike how the non-competetive side of Counter Strike's history seems to have been forgotten, it was by far where I had most fun despite spending a considerable amount in matchmaking too, and at times it feels like Valve is trying to actively suppress it and funnel everyone towards a uniform hyper-competetive experience, which is a shame. Personally since around 2015 I've been playing more Insurgency and less counter strike, eventually switching over almost completely in large part because it was a game that in nature reminded me of Counter-Strike's earlier versions & community that I enjoted much more, but then they released a sequel and effectively killed community servers lol. I really hope everything csgo had makes it into Cs2 eventually, and that it works properly, modes which utlized quirks of the source engine like Surf Combat were among my favourites. Even if they do though, it still doesn't feel right for Global Offensive to just be replaced with Cs2, wiping all achievements, competetive wins and essentially killing the game countless people have poured thousands of hours into, it really should've been a separate title.

I hope that CS 2, with its system of awarding ranks to a single map, will bring back the old varied map lists of old operations. Some of the most fun i've had with csgo was during operation Hydra when I'd queue for only the most obscure maps, being placed in a lobby where nobody, including myself, knew the map causing each round to feel unique as I slowly uncovered the secrets of this place. I hope some of these less "competitely viable" maps are permanently given a place in csgo competitive, just outside of premier so competitive players dont get angry.

The point about people only seeing this game through a competitive filter is something i've seen for a bit with even my friend group. I started playing in css and most of them didn't start playing until well after danger zone, to be fair i feel like they never even dabbled in community servers besides 1v1 servers, so i do hope that valve is getting closer to bringing back the tools needed so new creaters can make new servers and modes like the ones i loved before

Incredibly good video Philip, again you covered most of our frustrations on a clean, polite and extensive video, chapeau. I was very excited about cs2 honestly, but after I realized the workshop maps won't run anymore and all my favorite bhop server are long gone, my excitement quickly vanished. You could say it's a different engine and you are right, but I was hoping they would make some compatibility mode for such maps. I can't believe they just wiped everything out...

@@DailyShit. It was a problem because CS2 stayed at Very/Mostly Positive since release until yesterday when it changed to what it should be, Mixed. This was because it was using the CS:GO reviews that were posted in the past 30 days in the recent reviews calculation which was dishonestly boosting the 'CS2' review score.

I think you hit the nail on the head, talking about how the focus on the competitive scene (where the most money is) has shifted the focus away from the ‘casual’ ecosystem in a way that robs Counter-Strike of much of its real charm.

I think this is a good way of looking at things. I’m also someone who appreciates the more silly and less competitive side of counter strike (even though I never looked into community servers all that much. I should have!) so it’s been sad to see those modes absent in CS2. But I do have hope Valve will be taking this opportunity to flesh out and improve them once they get everything okay for tournament play.

I'm glad there are still people and content creators who are patient with CS2 and don't trash it from the get go like I've seen in the past weeks. CS2 might have been rushed due to Valve's release miscalculation and the game still has problems, but I'm 100% confident it will reach CS:GO's level of polish and surpass it in the near future. I only hope Valve manages to polish the base game quicker and help the casual community bring back custom gamemodes and casual gamemodes like Danger Zone and Arms Race (preferably more improved).
@DarkSession6208

Solution on how to get Community Gamemodes and Servers back again at where they were in CS:S and at CSGO Relase : Make a new Tile like they did for Competitive/Casual/Arms Race in the Menu and under that point make a list of Community game modes like its done in Gmod. If the server has a convar where it states gamemode_surf, all server running that var, will be listed under the surf category. Same for Zombie, Climbing and Minigames. 03:21 Right side of "Private Matchmaking" a Tab called : Community Gamemodes, inside that tab the different gamemodes with a preview image like when you click on competitive and it shows you Inferno, Dust, Overpass etc, just that it shows you the gamemode instead of map, and when you click onto that gamemode, you will see the different servers and maps listed in a clean menu.

it's more than that, it's the competitive industry that was built up for CS:GO, it became so huge that it's now iconic, and nobody wants to relearn the whole game. Pros would be endless complaining if new mechanics had to be learned and they were no longer salaried team players.... I mean they already are complaining and cs2 is literally a source 2 copy of GO.

I completely agree with the casual aspect and the gamemode changes. I mainly played the less competitive side of the game since I don't have much free time, and I want to have fun, which tryharding faceit isn't for me. I really hope they expand the non competitive aspects of CS in CS2. Also, why are community deathmatch and retake servers still so much better than the official Valve ones? Why don't they listen to the community more? Other than that, I'm enjoying CS2 so far, and I'm excited for the next updates. Great video!

i rarely comment but honestly "cs 2 was needed" yeah sure and we got cs go 2.0 and why? cause of the skins. Literally real progress stopped cause of skins... cs go got huge updates over its lifespan even huge visual updates making early versions to the newest version look way different than cs go to cs 2 did. i know "source 2 so cs 2" seems obvious but cs go shouldve just gotten the engine update years ago... i dont know but being around as old as philip i just wish i wouldve seen an actual new cs in my life but now i really doupt that i will. And in my opinion its still the same game with the same little updated looks only now its insanely buggy again. even something like having topspawn and just getting stuck for a moment (not lag literally like an invisible wall) is a thing... more cheaters than ever etc... how long do you think it will take volvo to update something like overwatch in lmao (dont even know if it is in the game yet i didnt see it)... you think vacs banning a significate amount of people? LOL! at the end of the day calling it cs 2 is just marketing to get the game back in all algorythms, making streamers and yters etc. milk it so that volvo can milk the skins for another propably 10 years. csgo existed over 10 years and there shouldve honestly been a a real new cs looking completely different and way better aswell. but why would you put work into anything that makes you fck you kind of money every year no matter what. even im still playing it here and there with my m8s but i sure as hell wont open any cases or buy any skins anymore. maybe my opinion would be different if i would be younger or would have some really expensive pixels in my inventory anymore that wouldve been worthless with an actual new game ;)

I really vibe with the whole "I don't play counter-strike to be competitive" mindset - all of my hundreds of hours into this game as a kid in CS 1.5/1.6 were spent on 16v16 servers with ridiculous maps like the rat maps or things like the Warcraft 3 mods. I have so many hours spent playing scoutz knives and things like iceworld. I totally appreciate the competitive side of CS and watching it is fun sometimes, but I miss the way I grew up with CS. I don't really care too much how balanced a map is, and despite 20+ years in this game, I still actually don't know the callouts for any area because I just never learned them and don't care to at this point. I miss 16v16 on Aztec where someone calls out "knives only" and we all run around like morons with knives stabbing each other, or 10 minute games on de_dust because there wasn't some competitive-oriented time limit, and I even miss server admins slapping you around if you bought an AWP and killed them with it. It's just not really the game I grew up with anymore.
