Incredible! In Switzerland, we probably make the finest watches. But you, in Britain, you make the finest soldiers for sure. They march with their pace stick as it rains cats and dogs and they do that with the greatest precision as nothing would be. A very nice piece of british pride, thank you "The King's Guards Channel" to share this moment very professionnally shot under pouring rain.

Love Swiss watches! My first watch ever was an Alsta. I still remember it 45 years later.

@@pamelablume1637 Dear Pamela, Alsta Watches aren't swiss. They do have swiss movements or calibers if you prefer. This is the reason why you can read "Swiss Made" at 6 o'clock on the dial. But their design and complete case assembly / strap aren't made in Switzerland. Anyway, they are also nice and neat watches. Thank you for your kind attention.

I am crazy about "Duck Dynasty" beards, but a clean shaven face goes well with the perfectly suited and booted soldier image. However, skin conditions sometimes makes it necessary for a soldier to have a beard.

For the civies watching . The " pace stick" is to unify the British armies pace . Which is 116 paces a min with a length of 76cm . It was originally used by the royal artillery to set correct distances between guns .

That's a Pace Stick they are holding. This works out the correct spacing for parade ground
@Richard500
@Richard500 28 дней назад
The pace stick! What a tool that is for the drill sergeants of the army. I was only 5'6" tall when I joined the army and later, as a "Right hand man" on many parades I often found myself being "paced" by our RSM (over 6 feet tall) and him saying Step out!! Left Right Left Right 30" come on stretch those legs! All the while, his pace stick whipping round and snapping down as I took each pace. Even worse in Slow Time! My knees have started to give way a bit now, I'm lucky. The drill you are seeing here is pretty exaggerated as they are in competition if you watch them on normal parade they are a little less so.
@Mac398td
@Mac398td 28 дней назад
I remember "Step off with a full pace of 30" open your legs, you wont drop nothing".
@geraldinecondie8328
@geraldinecondie8328 28 дней назад
Should have tried it wearing a skirt. Well maybe not, I'm sure the RSM would have had a fit, but for WRAC on parade with men, it wasn't easy!!!!

Every military is different. I was in the US Marines and our boot camp drill instructors were hell on wheels over proper drill, but they didn't use pace sticks (or any other kind of actual stick anymore). They just knew the distances needed. In fact, the US Marines are the only branch in the US military that still trains recruits to a high drill standard. Sure, the other branches have ceremonial units that learn a high standard of drill. In fact the units in Washington DC (including the Marines) all march to a common standard and use a standard manual of arms generally only seen in those units. I do remember our feather merchants (short guys) sometimes having difficulties with the 30-inch pace for quick time, but as the DIs said, that was their problem. Deal with it and do it right (or else). It didn't help them that Marine units doing drill organize the troops by height, tallest in front, shortest in back (except for the squad leaders who were always the first rank regardless of height). Or as we would joke (after boot camp), "Fall in alphabetically by height!" While the US military doesn't use pace sticks, I have no issues with the Brits (and others) using them. Tradition counts for something in my book.
