She felt trapped. She tried to "escape" a few times before the marriage and it's said Albert had her passport confiscated. Thereby, she was not able to leave the country without (his) permission. She pretty much was trapped. Years later, and I believe it was last year or the year before, she did travel to S. Africa, (her home), where she fell ill about the time she was supposed to return to Albert and her twin sons. Her docters' statements prohibited her from undertake any travels, so she remained there a few more months past her due date of return back to Monaco. When she finally did return, Albert, supposedly with her agreement, had her committed to some mental "clinic" in France, with the understanding she was to remain there for at least a few months or the institution saw her fit enough to join her family in Monaco again. ( which I believe meanwhile has happened). The moral of her story here and it really doesn't take a genius to figure out, Charlene is not really happy with her choice of husband, feeling even more so trapped as together they have children, who she loves. She may have actually fallen in love with Albert at one point, but as time progressed, doubt and reservations must have set in into her mind, but it was already to late to back out, (poor woman, as I see it).
