I'm pretty sure He preaches for God's glory and not for man's applause so God's Word will teach and rebuke.

With anything just ask yourself: "can I imagine this being played in heaven?" If the answer is no then don't participate in that activity. Don't live worldly culture, live heaven culture for it is our true home.

Just because you've realized that you were listening to the wrong music doesn't necessarily mean that you're "Lost" it just means that God is sanctifying you everyday. In case you've forgotten, we are saved by Grace through Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

It all comes down to the heart. If your eye offends you cut it off(figuratively speaking). If you listen or watch something and it impedes your relationship with The Lord stop listening and stop watching it. If the tv or song offends your brethren then avoid it together.

Yes but that's the thing. Our hearts are deceitfully wicked above all things. We don't have the capacity, apart from God, to declare that we are 'strong' enough to listen to these things and say that we aren't being affected. It's best to avoid them.

As a musician of many years, playing everything from Metal to Jazz, but as a relatively new follower of Christ Jesus, I believe that all music is acceptable. However we must consider the Lyrics. The Lyrics may reveal a whole lot of Leaven. In that case I would question if those Lyrics would be pleasing to our Lord if we were to say them out aloud ourselves. If you feel that those lyrics would please God then fine, go and enjoy it, but if you know the lyrics to be offensive, or at the least displeasing to our Lord, then walk away. Remember All Music is great if you enjoy it, but it is the Lyrics that are essential to monitor.

I somewhat disagree with you. I say "what was the intent behind creating this music? What was the motivation? Where they under the influence? What was the lifestyle like of this person?" You can have the best music ever, but if it was written by a hedonistic materialist, it doesn't make it right, and it shouldn't be enjoyable.

​@@Kitkat7826 In the few direct references to music in the Bible, the same musical instruments are used to glorify God as are used to worship idols. I can understand what the Bible says by reading it and being led by the Holy Spirit. Following a person instead of God is very dangerous and will lead you into many fallacies.

I think one also needs to be careful what kind of ‘Christian music’ one listens to. I don’t mean the genre, I mean the lyrics. Something that is slightly wrong is often more dangerous than something blatantly evil.

The issue I have trouble with is whether something is considered sinful simply because it doesn't include Christ. Eating a peppermint or attending your child's baseball game doesn't "appear" to include Christ or intentionally exclude Christ. It would appear to me that certain things, in balance with a healthy Christian lifestyle, are merely neutral (for a lack of a better word) It's clear to me that music that propounds ideals that uplift the nature of sin simultaneously oppose Christ and therefore is not ok. What isn't clear to me is whether music that simply remains neutral (if that's possible) is sinful. I suppose the real question is whether substances and activities can remain neutral or if there is a standard to which all things are either glorifying God or not.

TimeGallon I just go by my heart. I watch a lot of movies, but if it goes over the line then I won't watch them. To me it all comes down to if it will pull you away from your walk. I like old school country music. It's never affected my walk with the Lord

Robert Collins I agree. God gave us the best barometer for detecting whether or not something is immoral: our conscience. I still wonder though, whether one can effectively defend their choices (in music for instance) and how far their defense can go. If someone can articulate why they know something is or isn't morally acceptable based on Biblical principals, then we won't have to rely on someone claiming that they "feel" highway to hell by AC/DC is ok as their defense for indulging in worldly music. I guess the issue here is to direct those who are misled by dishonest feelings by articulating why specific songs are or aren't acceptable. But I also sincerely believe that those who know Christ can rely mostly on their own conscious as long as they're honest with themselves.

TimeGallon the barometer for something being right or not isn't our conscience, otherwise there wouldn't be any heresy, it's the mix of bible verses leading you, the bible says: whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. which means if there's a lie, adultery, homossexuality, witchcraft or any other sin without ending in a positive bíblical example against it, we shouldn't watch it or hear it

João marcos morais I disagree. God is perfect and incapable of making a bad decision. If knowing what the Bible is what it takes to guide us through right and wrong, then I fear that only the theologians and Bible scholars will be able to make it to heaven. I see no other way for those who aren't theologians to enter through the gates of heaven than for there to be some sort of barometer to guide your morals. As far as I can tell, we all have that barometer. We can tell when what we're doing isn't moral, we can feel it in our gut. That's why everyone is expected to be held accountable for their crimes. Our ability to know right from wrong is inherent.

Question how about music that does not have those sinful parts? For instance i listen to Christian music but I also listen to Instrumental music as well. God bless.

I would say it is fine, indeed wonderful to enjoy Instrumental music of any genre, it is the Lyrical content of Songs that can be the Leaven.

I urge you to consider music without lyrics as well. From classical to techno, moods, thoughts and feelings are evoked. Some instrumental music makes me sad or reminiscent, some energizes, some makes me feel hyped up but in a more aggressive way, some soothes. I would argue that it's not just lyric-filled music that moves us in different ways, good, bad and in between.

Holly the thing is that the same genre of music can effect people differently, I was reading how one person who listened to a symphony was actually disturbed by it because it sounded like a dying cat, while everyone else in the crowd was at peace enjoying it, or even how in the west people find the tone of a lot of pop music like brittany spears to be upbeat and joyful, yet when a group of Somali pirates attacked a cargo ship and the crew started blasting brittany spears, the music disturbed them so much they quit going after the ship altogether! Ultimately sounds and musical notes are not the problem, It's one of those issues that the individual believer needs to discern for themselves, if the music makes them feel horrible or sad and depressed, then they shouldn't torture themselves listening to it

It is about your hart. The holy spirt will lead you pray and read your Bible God will lead your way. The Ten Commandments are the only law that matters. If you are saved then show gratitude for Jesus sacrifice and use them as a guide to everything. Everything is permissible not everything is beneficial. If you eat meat,eat meat in honor to the lord if you don’t eat meat then don’t eat meat in honor to the lord

Lyrical content probably matters more than musical style. I like a lot of Christian heavy metal. The lyrics are more scripturally sound than country and pop music that glorifies getting drunk and indulging in fornication. I've also taken a likening to bands like Casting Crowns and For King and Country. There is plenty of good music out there that honors the Lord.

旭苒高 I would say that you should only listen to music that praises and worships God. Of course this might be extreme but to each their own. I used to listen to uk drill and USA trap/drill and since stopping them I’ve decided that it’s better for me to just listen to Godly music rather than touché music

You can have "worldly" music...if that's even the appropriate word to use. Anything written by man, including hymns and modern worship music is "worldly" in that sense. There is music that is not worship music that doesn't reference or glorify sin. Just because it isn't spiritual doesn't mean it's sinful. If you watch any tv/movies/sports, most likely, it's "worldly" but not always sinful. Should we strive to constantly be engaged in activities that glorify God? Absolutely...but I don't believe I'm sinning if I chose to watch a secular tv show or listen to secular music unless the content therein is glorifying sinful behavior.

Worldly here is defined as the Bible puts it though, not the way you've explained it. In the Bible world = flesh (sinful nature) lifestyle in which one is spiritually dead and does not care for the things of God. So that means they don't feel there's anything wrong with the sexual lyrics and violence themes in their music since they're not out to bring glory to God. Worldly as you've explained seems to mean anything a human being has done. I.e toast bread is 'worldly' mri scans are 'worldly' etc. That wasn't what was meant in the use of the word 'worldly'

So in this case,no tv either unless it's talking about Christ. No sports. The list can go on and on. Not being mean but. If we're not constantly talking about Christ or Reading the Bible then we're sinning? So confused, seems to be all about rules

I'd recommend reading 1 Corinthians chapter 8 and apply it spiritually to what we enjoy in the modern day. By what I understand Jesus calls us to love God sincerely, not because we are told to. We don't follow Him in order to receive gifts, but because we're received so much from Him we want to obey Him.

soullordT8 thank you! I talked to so many people from different churches and such wide opinions on stuff like this. It gets confusing. I grew up Penecostal. But we were always toll that's OK to go at the movies within reason. Have other churches that say you can't play pool or go bowling or anything like that

Robert Collins I was worried about this at first. We are asked to give our lives up as living sacrifies. Hard to do that when you're spending hours watching TV. Our number one job is God's will to continue Jesus' work of saving souls. This is a full time job and you will be busy 24/7 as Jesus was. I can tell you I have seen that it takes daily change with Jesus' help to get to a place where you are only interested in things of God. It is amazing! I can tell you I would not have thought it would have been possible a year ago because it would have sounded boring. It is not but instead you are constantly aware of God and his workings in every moment. Now I always want to talk about Jesus and so now I see non-Jesus focused activities as opportunities to talk about him and share the Gospel. You will probably lose some relationships but Jesus promises the world would hate us for not being like everyone else. I just can't stop, I'm obsessed with Jesus!

I recognize three types of music: RELIGIOUS SECULAR WORLDLY Most Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) is just religious garbage. So you could further categorize between religious verses Christian music if you wanted. But I'll just call it all “religious” music for this article, as our focus is on secular music. Not all secular music is bad. For example: George Strait sings some great songs, like “I Saw God Today.” The song is about his daughter being born, and he sees God in the gift of life. It's a beautiful song. But that doesn't mean I approve of all of Mr. Strait's music, such as his bad song, “Overnight Male” or his adulterous song “Seashores Of Old Mexico.” These songs promote sexual immorality. These are worldly songs. These are very different than George's song “I Saw God Today.” Do you see the difference? So, yes, I do think it is acceptable for a Christian to listen to secular music, but should abstain from worldly music. James Taylor's music is beautiful. I think it is acceptable to hear songs like “How Sweet It Is” and “You've Got A Friend.” I like Don William's song “I Believe In You.” Examples of worldly music would be Rod Stewart's “Do You Think I'm Sexy” and Madonna's “Like A Virgin,” which openly promote sexual immorality. Let me ask you a question? Is it sinful to eat in a restaurant that sells liquor? Be careful before you answer, because if you shop at K-mart you are supporting the sale of booze. If you buy gas at the local fuel station, you are helping keep a business open that sells cigarettes to ruin people's health. Fuel stations also sell lottery tickets, which support sinful gambling schemes. The whole concept of gambling to get rich is sinful. Fuel stations sell condoms, to help fornicators and adulterers. When we really get down to the nitty-gritty, we are all hypocrites to some degree, who all help support evil in one form or another. How could we not do so, when we are a part of a degenerate American culture? So be careful before you condemn a fellow believer for listening to secular music. If you use and support the modern Bible perversions, you are committing horrible wickedness, thousands of times worse than listening to AC/DC or Van Halen. James 4:4, “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” We are warned in James 4:4 that to be a friend of the world is to become God's enemy. So would it be okay to listen to secular music? Yes, I believe so. I think there is a vast difference between listening to proper secular music verses driving a beer truck, listening to “Highway To Hell” by AC/DC, or working in an abortion clinic. The “world” refers to the masses of humanity who have rejected Jesus Christ, and have aligned themselves and their careers with the coming man of sin, the Beast, called Antichrist. Nearly all mainstream music has occult imagery employed by Luciferians to let everyone know Satan is behind it all, influencing the masses of humanity to go along to get along. This, I believe, is what the Bible means in Daniel 8:25, when it prophesies that “by PEACE” the Antichrist “shall destroy many.” Lucifer is recruiting billions of people to support his forming New World Order, which will ultimately bring the destruction of the world. Does this mean you're God's enemy because you listen to secular music? I think not. Some Christians have stronger views than others on this matter. Some hypocritical religious snobs will condemn other believers for listening to secular music, but those same highbrow churchgoing believers have no problem using dozens of different Bible versions each Sunday in their church, confusing the congregation week-after-week. Satan is delighted, to say the least. I don't think God considers me an evildoer for listening to “The Good Stuff” by Kenny Chesney, or my favorite TV theme song “Welcome Back Kotter.” God gave us music to enjoy. There is a spirit to everything, whether it be a book, a song, a movie, a website, an organization, a church, a person, et cetera. Each song must be considered and judged individually, as to whether or not it is acceptable. I do not think God gets mad at one of His children for listening to “You Saw Me Crying In The Chapel” sang by Elvis Presley, even though Elvis himself lived a wasted life of sin and wickedness. We ALL allow certain things in our life that other believers may not approve of, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there is anything wrong with it. Romans 14:22, “Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.” We must be careful about condemning others. If you think The Beach Boys are evil, then don't listen to them. Granted, The Beach Boys are part of the world's system. They did not honor God with their musical careers. Yet, I do not think is it wrong to listen to “God Only Knows” or “Don't Worry Baby” by The Beach Boys. These are secular songs, not so much worldly. I preach again these groups to expose the true nature of these bands, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I am against listening to some of their music. You just need to know whose side they're all on, Satan's. I rip on Brian Wilson, because in past interviews he has said that he isn't sure there is a God, but yet he still sings about God. Kind of strange, huh? Still, I like some of their songs. You just need to know the facts, to be informed. The Scriptures teach us not to condemn anyone... Matthew 7:1-5, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.” Let me say, kindly, that no one has any Biblical right to point their wicked finger of judgment at others. If you only like religious quartet music, then knock your socks off. I'd go nuts if all I heard was religious music. I like singing hymns on Sunday at church. I enjoy the depth of theological meaning in the old hymns. But I like hearing Hawaiian, Country and other secular music during the week. I like many secular songs. I'm not as conservative when it comes to music as are some believers. I like all kinds of music, but stay away from heavy metal and music that promotes an evil spirit. I am a hobbyist musician and love all kinds of music. I think as believers we need to discern between music that is secular verses worldly. Also, we need to discern between groups that are serving the Devil verses listening to some of their acceptable songs. Some people would argue that to listen to any of their songs means supporting the whole caboodle. I don't think so. I love the song “Til There Was You” by The Beatles. Does that mean that I support the Beatles? Never! They are of the Devil. Churches ought not play their music, because then the church would be sponsoring it. But if you personally want to listen to “Til There Was You” in your backyard at a barbeque, I do not think it is sinful. Do you see the difference? Dr. John R. Rice (1895-1980) used to read Zane Grey (1872-1939) novels. But Zane Grey was an adulterous heathen involved in Hollywood. Does that mean Dr. Rice endorsed everything about Zane Grey? Of course not. Dr. Rice just enjoyed reading western novels. Clearly, “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC and “Running With The Devil” by Van Halen are of the Devil. No Christian should listen to these kinds of songs. Nothing AC/DC or Van Halen sings is acceptable. Contrawise, I also really don't care for church music myself. I like instrumentation and steel guitars, because I play them. I like a bass and some drums. Music is a passion for me, which I continually thank God for enabling me to do. Please don't misunderstand, I love singing at church, and harmonizing while singing; but given the choice, I'd rather hear Jerry Byrd playing his album “On The Shores Of Waikiki” on his steel guitar any day! That's just me.

A lot of ambiguities being spewed. Stimulating and vibrationally elevating music can be of any kind. Sad to see this devolve into the usual "give yourself to the lord, not his creation" as usual. God created a world for us to behold and to only worship him? Guarantee beyond a shadow of a doubt he is not the one true God and potentially just Yaldabaoth? I'm the last person to argue for hedonism as I think it deplorable and I think anyone can learn from trying to live as Christ, but to reject the creations which God so desperately wants us to to churn out by giving us the power to do so is to reject the gift of life itself. You can be grateful and a creator; tis not blasphemous, but the holiest of holies. Creating more good increases life's vibration, but adding harsh annunciations to words to invoke a sense of shamefulness while spewing words of utterly no value, rather but negative effect unto the human condition can only lead you to a path of damnation. You really think God just walked the Earth as Jesus bumping his head to people praising him and then had his hands in his ears whenever he passed a musician saying anything otherwise? What kind of GOD is that?
