What real blackthorn shillelagh should look like 

Hello Francis, I just received one of your shillelaghs that my brother Rhys picked out. I'd like to commend you on your prowess as a carver. (I restore antique hand tools as a hobby because I enjoy exploring the designer's intentions, and analyzing what makes a "good" tool, good) Your attention to detail was crystal clear from the moment I held that thing! The way the knuckles have been worked aligns my grip with a strong striking angle or a comfortable hold for pushing down (in more casual applications) at EVERY possible grip point. The burl has been shaped beautifully and provides a comfortable, warm grip from any angle. I am honored to own such a fine shillelagh and would like to honor you for your excellence and devotion to the craft.

I have my own one piece frankenstein stick. It is made of oak or ash. Made it when I was using wood heat. Cutting and splitting wood gives you time to see spoons, forks, spatulas, and shilelaghs. All from oak, ash and other hardwood. Thanks and Be well.

The shillelagh i got made it's first kill. It was a chicken, but a kill is a kill, and it worked just fine, stone-dead after one wallop. My woman says every household should have one.

Beautiful shillelaghs, Francis. I’m curious, we always hear about them being put up a chimney for a few months for the black seasoning and hardening to take place due to the smoke from the turf fire. You didn’t mention doing this to yours and I was curious what your thoughts are regarding that practice?
