Back in high school, Dennis Smith Jr.'s mixtape, in our opinion, remains unparalleled, with John Wall and Aquille Carr coming in as close contenders. If you had asked us in 2016 about his potential, we would have confidently stated that he had the potential to rival any guard in the league.
From high school to college, Smith showcased an incredible array of skills - a perfect fit for the NBA with his height, athleticism, charisma, and ball-handling prowess. Drafted 9th overall by the Dallas Mavericks, six teams in need of a point guard passed on him, including the New York Knicks, who opted for Frank Ntilikina. At the time, it seemed like Smith was tailor-made for a market and team like New York.
