One of my Mom and I's favorite episode was " Little Ricky gets a dog". Lucy trying to cover up having the little dog 'Fred' by howling and telling Fred the dog Bisquettes are hers, and she eats them in front of Fred saying " I LOVE EM" and the look on her face while eating one 🤣‼️Classic!!! My Mom and would bust up laughing at this scene no matter how many times we saw it. Thank you again Rick for this. It brings back some very good memories. It’s interesting to remember there was a dog in the beginning of the series that Fred and Ethel had, since it was used in one episode. I also sort of forgot about Fred the dog, but this video defiantly helped me remember Fred as well as where he was by the end of the series. Thank you for the video Rick, keep up the great work!

@@ricknineg from what I hear Desi Arnez had wanted to turn I Love Lucy into a hour long show after about 3 season.. and show them every couple months..and it gave the cast a brake between the hour long shows a couple month in between.............but CBS wanted to keep with the Half hour format.. after 6 seasons the entire cast had enough and I Love Lucy was cancelled CBS wanted to do more and finally agreed to the Hour long show which was called the Lucy-Desi comedy hour.....they had total of 13 episodes which were not weekly but show every couple months.........as Everyone knows Lucy and Desi's private life was having issues so after 13 episodes they cancelled it.............the interesting thing about the hour comedy show was all the guest Celebrites shown...and when you see on DVD or Blue -Ray... the Lucy-Desi comedy hour was seen as seasons 7, 8 and 9.. as it continued with the characters from I Love Lucy....if you watch the comedy show...over time and by the end of the series....you can see the change between Lucy and Desi do to their marriage issues........it's been said by time of the last episode the two were not speaking to each other aside from doing the show..

That was a great episode. Trivia: They wanted Bette Davis, but she was recovering from a broken hip. TB was difficult to say the least. Often late and drunk on-set. Lucy and Desi were terrified when it came time to film. But she was a true pro and pulled it off perfectly. My favorite was the one with Milton Berle. When he came down the staircase as "Mildred Burke" I just about lost it. If you haven't seen it... look for it. You can find a clip of this scene on RU-vid.

I didn't care for them either. Meeting all the celebrities show after show stretched the credibility even of I Love Lucy. Plus the serious real life marital problems of Lucy and Desi were obvious.

I didn't know that Fred the dog was in Dennis the Menace. Cute! I would like videos about The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour. And about when they were in the country in I Love Lucy. Those were my favorite episodes, right after "Bull Fight Dance" and "The Great Train Robbery." Lucy was hilarious as the lady bull! And it was hilarious when she kept stopping the train, and Fred and Ethel ended up with food all over themselves. 🤣 I love your videos!

Sometimes they could easily explain something away with just a few lines! Season one they could have just mentioned that Fred was "...watching Butch for someone in another building"! Maybe even have Ricky lead up to it by questioning "I thought you had a no pets policy in this building?!"

*FUN FACT:* In a RARE LOST episode of _I Love Lucy,_ Fred actually sells off Butch to a Chinese butcher and in a crazy twist, Butch was sold back to Fred and Ricky when they bought the meat for the freezer that Ethel got from Uncle Oscar...

Was the dog that appeared initially as Fred’s dog in The Diet episode, was that dog also in petticoat junction tv show?

No, it wasn’t. The Petticoat Junction dog (Higgins) was born in 1957, while the episode “The Diet” was filmed in 1951. Higgins went on to become better known in the movies as “Benji,” and died in 1975, a month shy of his 18th birthday.

We had a Cairn Terrier named Annie and she was the sweetest dog and lived to be quite old (around 16)., They are a smart and loving breed. Great video.

There's only one small thing. The original puppy was not a cairn terrier like the Fred towards the end. They were definitely 2 different dogs.

Lucy, in real life, LOVED dogs. I know this as we even talked about this several times....and unlike many actors didn't at all mind working with animals. Two exceptions both came later than I Love Lucy...One with dolphins and another time with an elephant. For whatever reason (well they are big) she was afraid of elephants. And the dolphins she said kept poking her in the kidneys and the water was freezing too. Similarly, she didn't mind working with children - just so there was a laugh involved. Frank Inn was the most famous animal trainer in Hollywood at the time, by the way.

Plot twist: Very soon after the events of the last episode of I Love Lucy, little Ricky is kidnaped and raised by a different family who changes his name to George Wilson. By the time little Ricky grows up to be old Mr. Wilson, he has forgotten all about the red headed mom and the Cuban dad he once knew. But every now and then something of his previous life, once buried deep in his subconscious, comes to the surface and that is the odd reason Mr. Wilson decided to get a Cairn Terrier dog who bares a striking resemblance to Fred the dog

It was funny how Mr. Mooney was always trying restrict lucy on how much money to spend. They thought 40.00 was a lot of money, compared how much money they had in real life. 😂

Keeping track of what they'd invented clearly was never a concern with the "I Love Lucy" creators simply because at the time nobody foresaw the show living on forever. Phone numbers, middle names, story situations, and characters' backstories came and went and changed at the writers' whim. The Ricardos and Mertzes raising chickens in Connecticut was quickly abandoned, and even Fred the dog was not consistent: the puppy that Little Ricky first brings home is not a Cairn terrier.

In the Diet episode; there was no mention who owned the dog; I thought the writers wrote in Butch the dog making it seem that the Mertzes were just dog sitting that evening to set up Lucy's scene under the table.

I had forgotten about Dennis the Menace and the little dog. Interesting to know that when little Ricky got the dog he was a puppy then when they move to the country the dog was a little bit bigger. Kind of like when the mertzes and the Ricardos went to Europe Little Ricky was still a small little toddler but then when they came back Ricky could talk. The animal thing I always figure when you see an animal on a show and then you don't it probably only works for a couple of times in the show. An example is The Brady Bunch whatever happened to fluffy the cat? The cat was there for the wedding but never seen again. And the dog he was there for the wedding and in a few episodes but he went away and never came back. I will have to watch that episode where Lucy goes on a diet because I think that is so funny. And thanks for sharing the doggy info Rick

If I’m not mistaken, Fred (the pup) is never seen or mentioned ever again once the show went into its hour long format. So my question is, what happened to Fred by the time the show got to Season 7?

As the show became more popular, you would think they would be more careful with continuity and look for contradictions. Like Carolyn Applebee became Lillian, then became Carolyn again. AND... they recycled so many actors for extras, bit parts, and guest roles. The glaring one was Frank Nelson. He played about six different roles throughout the series, ending as Ralph Ramsey along with Mary Jane Croft who played three different roles. Did they think we wouldn't notice?

@@dawnhalley2205 I met her at a Lucy convention in Burbank in the 90s. She was TINY. I asked her why the name changed, but she didn't know either. I remember he changed too. But the dumb part was one of the husbands (I think the first one) played Ricky's agent while they were in Hollywood.

That last episode (Ded of a statue) was the worst ever. Pointless, and not funny. I felt they were really "trying" to get laughs. It was also a horrible climax to the show. Unless I missed something. It's the only complaint I've ever had about the entire show.
