The Palestinian issue is a global moral issue. I’m a South African whose parents and grandparents witnessed their families torn apart and had their homes and businesses destroyed by the apartheid government in the name of the Group Areas Act. I’ve had to bear witness to the depression, hopelessness and inter-generational trauma that resulted from the oppressive actions of a brutal racist government. What’s happening to the Palestinians is not just a geographical issue, it’s an issue of humanity - just like the Holocaust was. So, to say that it shouldn’t matter to us and we should only care about our domestic issues is abhorrent to me. The DA has unfortunately lost my vote. I will not be able to look myself in the mirror if I give my vote to a party that subscribes to view of human rights being only for certain people.

The Mr Mtimka, analysis matters he always reminds me of Prof Somadoda Fikeni, very precise nd informed in his analysis....

Its amazes me how the Israel vs Palestine conflict, like many other recent conflicts seems to devide support between the Oppressed and the Oppressor. People whom where previously oppressed themselves empathizing with the oppressed (Palestinians) and those with a vice-a-versa. Case in point the ANC, which i think has bought alot of favor with South Africans, especially of colour with their support of thr Palestinians. The DA not speaking out against the occupation seems to be doing them zero favours in trying to change the narrative of them not still being very much a "white party". I think on the issue of staying out of international affairs. If we say we are for human rights, we cannot cherry pick when we want to become advocates. The ANC did it now with this Palestinian issue but failed to speak out again Russia and the DA is doing the same. Spoke out against Russia but not willing to criticize Israel. And yes, i do believe you can criticize what Isreal is doing in Gaza and the Westbank without supporting Hamas or being antisemitic.

Why is the Arab league not getting involved if its an international moral issue?

It is quite baffling to me that a party could potentially lose support because of issues in another country. In our own country we have sky high unemployment, 78 murders a day, loadshedding, disintegrating infrastructure, poor health and education services, unsafe drinking water etc but no, lets rather vote for a party based on whatever happens in our countries... some minds have yet to fully develop.
