Nice video. BTW, an F350 crew longbox gooseneck GCWR is 30,500lb when you get a 2wd dually, which I have. Towing capacity is 22,600lb and my 16ft gooseneck dump trailer is 6klb, so payload is 16,600lb or eight tons. I have 24in sidewalls for the same reason as you and could have used a 14ft box if I only hauled rock, but I needed another 2ft to fit equipment.
I see overloaded trucks way to often. I pull a camper and a lot of heavy loads myself and like you I took the time to educate myself on safe load operation. Thank you for taking the time to help educate others about this. Thanks for another great video and I will see you on the next one.
Great video. That needed explaining about the gcvwr. A lot of people just don't understand that at all. Then when they get the trailer inspected they get told it won't pass inspection because of bent axles and many other problems.
Definitely some good points in your video! Sure do see plenty of people that don't respect the limits of their equipment. Case in point. I saw this just this week, Monday I believe. On the side of interstate 71 between Ashland and Cleveland. A Chevy dually was pulled over along the highway. He was towing an enclosed trailer. Probably a 16 or 18 footer. The back door on his trailer was mangled up. Like the load inside shifted and smashed the door. And the load? A compact track loader! Yup. He had a tracked skid steer in that trailer. Now I have an appreciation for equipment. Those track loaders are always an interest of mine. From the specs on the few different ones I have looked at their weights have been between 9k and 12k pounds. Well, enclosed trailers are simply not intended to haul that heavy of a load! Not only was the door smashed on his trailer but so was at least one of the axles. Like destroyed smashed. So here this guy was with a busted to pieces loaded trailer sitting on the side of a 70mph freeway. The dude is darn lucky he didn't cause an accident and kill someone when his trailer broke like that. Especially with it being severely overloaded. People end up in prison for manslaughter pulling stunts like that when it gets someone killed. Weight ratings are important. Law enforcement will definitely bring it to light when there is an accident.
Not sure how I missed this comment but that is crazy! People don't understand having the right trailer.fornthe job is just as important as having the right tow vehicle. I wish I had a track loader! Last week on rt 20 near toledo I saw a landscape crew with a 3/4 ton Chevy pulling a 20 to 25 ft gooseneck with their mowers on it. The problem was the gooseneck trailer wasn't connect in the bed. They had the trailer hooked to the ball on the bumper. I bet that was fun to turn. The stuff you see on the highways. Thanks for watching!
Most people don't realize the F250 and the F350 use the same brakes. The F350 has more leaf springs which gives it a higher payload, but the GCVW is limited by the brakes.
Robert I agree I had some 304 or 2A limestone here in Pennsylvania delivered and when a tri axle drops 23 ton you stand and say that's really 23 ton but I drive a dump truck just don't haul stone and it is amazing how little you get in that amount of tonage.
I need to check the ratings on my 2013 F250 and 2012 Silverado 3500HD. I wanted a goose neck trailer but a bumper pull can be rented out if needed. Good information.
The DOT (aka truck enforcement) around here in Iowa are starting to take a real long serious look at the big pickups pulling trailers. Especially the flatbed trailers. Giving us big trucks a little breathing room.
I hear ya on the stone quantity. I hauled 3 loads on my trailer for a small parking area. You definitely need bigger equipment for bigger job's. My son is telling me I need a dump truck. Ha. May be one day along with a mini excavator.
Thanks for the info, SIDE NOTE, Diamond C trailers like yours are selling for $13400.00 here in southern Utah. it was not that long ago they were 9000.00 both of these prices were before tax.
I had another viewer say he was told 15k. I paid 8400 out the door with spare tire, coupler lock and taxes. That was in October 2020. It's nuts right now.
Talk to that guy who milled your top rails and you might find a very mutually beneficial solution to this high lumber price manipulation problem. I don’t know if it matters for the structure your going to build, but lumber grading (to meet building code and insurance Co. requirements) is how the lumber cartels have the stranglehold they have now. The big five publicly traded lumber producers are reporting massive profit (300%) increases. Those profits are a result of historically low timber prices and 200-300% increased lumber prices, go figure. Good job speaking the truth on vehicle and trailer limits and capacities, so many overload it like crazy.
I have a 7x16 dump trailer pulled with 09 dodge cummins for my landscaping/ tree removal business. I have had logs stacked 3' over bed no issues. Well my buddy wanted a load of dirt so not thinking I loaded dirt level with the walls. Let's just say my truck was wayyyy over weight and bottomed truck bed to the tires a few times. Will never do that again lol.
Haha ya I think that's happened to everyone at some point. I've been overloaded once by a new loader operator at the quarry. My 5 tons and his 5 tons were wayyyy different lol
True to a point. But if I'm hauling for somone else technically its.for profit. The laws seem to depend on which officers want to enforce them on what days.
That depends in which state you live. Some states do require a CDL even for private use. ie. Texas requires a CDL for motorhome RVs with air brakes while Arizona and most others do not.
The reason those loads are so small is that you were given too much of the fines. Always buy screened rock. It usually costs a dollar or two more per ton, but they screen out all the fines and you get 5 tons of real rock instead of a ton of rock and 4 tons of fine material (dust and sand sized particles)
I can get screened rock, here they call it washed rock. Only issue is that it doesn't pack as well. Some projects we use this, some times we used the washed stone. All depends.
@@PheasantLaneFarm The correct way is to use the washed rock for the base layer and for the final layer (top layer) use the rock with fines (We call it 1/2 minus or 3/4 minus) to pack and lock the loose stones. You will get better coverage and the final product is more resistant to washing when it rains. Too many fines will wash away. The larger rock interlock and keep the fines from washing out.
Hey man I’m thinking about buying the same trailer I have a 2019 ram 2500 I have a bobcat S 76 roughly 9500 pounds with fork and bucket so I will be under that 10,000 but wondering how it handles fully loaded like that thanks
Tongue weight that's put on your truck if it's say a thousand pounds does that mean you could all that much more on your trailer because that is transferred to truck. This is where i get confused thx
That would fall into the combined gross vehicle weight rating I do believe. On a bumper pull it doesn't mean you can add more weight. Some say you can overload a gooseneck trailer by a certain percentage, but then you would be overloading the rear axle on the truck in most cases.
I have a 2005 dodge 2500 quad cab slt v8,hemi 5.7 liter, 4wd, 6 1/4 feet bed. I've tried to find the gcwr of my vehicle everywhere without any luck. Online dodge customer service and the dealership told me they can't find it since the truck is too old. Trailers dealers they are all telling me that it is 13500 lbs. Any suggestions on how can find out? I was thinking to contact VDOT since they are the one doing inspections but I'm not sure.
I found a site called towengine.com it has your truck listed with the hemi, and shows a max tow rating of 11,450 kbs and a gross combined rating of 17,000. That includes truck and trailer. Shows your truck weighs in around 6300 lbs. Hope this helps
@@PheasantLaneFarm awesome, thank you very much. So, let me ask a question, am I legal to tow a 14k dump trailer if I don't exceed the total combined weight, truck weight+trailer weight+load,of 17000lb? Some people on the web says that just because the trailer is capable of a total weight of 14k (trailer weight + trailer load) I am not allowed to tow it even empty. Thank you again for your time
