that sounds like a good video idea where I can test that. but I think it all depends.. the rope type (slippery rope) or how heavy the rap load is ect.

Think I mentioned using two lightweight rings. I suppose the rings can even be made of wood or some other strong composite material but I’d be more worried of the ring braking and not getting my rope than getting hit by the ring. I was pretty good at dodge ball as a kid.

@@BetaClimbers Ah yes, that's right, I do recall you saying to use two rings. This really seems like a great alternative, but to your knowledge, is there any information about what the ring might do the cinch and overall strength. Bowlines can roll/capsize a fair amount and I *thought* the standard bowline wasn't considered particularly safe to rappel from. That's why there are a bunch of variants AFAIK (e.g. Yosemite Bowline). All of the variants tend to involve additional passes through the nipping loop and collar to create a better "lock". It *seems* like ring could possibly loosen the lock, especially with cyclical loading (which is why the variants exist). This setup seems awesome and I want to trust it, but it's very unique and I haven't come across it before. I tried looking for break tests, slippage, etc. to no avail. Does such a thing exist? Would love to see a follow up video at some point. Very intrigued. Regardless, thank you!

@@jimsather6892 I would trust it but at the end of the day that’s me. To each their one, before RU-vid you would just read about such a thing or hear from a friend and test things out. I personally like it more than a fiddle stick but there are things that can go wrong. Like if the end of your rope has a mushroom end for example the bowline can be very difficult to come off. In this application it’s not like a tie in point on a harness that’s going to get jostled around so I’d say it works fine with this setup. But yeah continue your research and experimenting on your own in a safe environment and see if you become more comfortable. Happy sending! 👍🏻

If you had a group of four let say then you would be courteous and give for first 3 more security. I.E. a back up knot or clip. Then as the last person you take the risky rap. I mentioned retying because the knot could get pretty tight after a few raps which can make it harder to pull out when the time comes to retrieve.

@@nilsschenkel7149 just the fact that you do not haul the whole rope through your anchor. So this method resembles the fiddle stick method and may be also similar to the machrame' stitching method, if you use a tagline for the first pull loop side (tied to the main line. The tag line is not a part of the macrame).

I have not used the Beal Escaper, but because it is designed to release after being weighted/unweighted several times, I would be very concerned about using a Beal Escaper in a canyoneering environment, in which quite frequently: 1. the rappel line is weighted/unweighted several times, as multiple people rappel off of the line, and/or 2. the rappel line is weighted/unweighted several times for each rappeler, due to multiple stages in the rappel. I have been in many canyoneering situations where the Beal Escaper would have prematurely released.

Very interesting. looks like it works around a tree but I don't think it would work as well through the chains. Its pretty tricky looking too so hard to inspect, you would need to be very familiar with it. Personally I avoid quick releases and use tag lines to pull down my ropes if I can.
