Does Canada even get to see the US watch list? or is there a different list that we give to other countries? My impression is that it doesn't take much to get on the watch list, and Its not obvious that that and the no-fly list are the same thing. Given that there's no real oversight, and you can get put on either list for flipping the bird at a border control lackey, or dating the wrong guy's boyfriend, why should Canada give a damn? One assumes they have their own lists, and are more interested in Indian assassins, than people smuggling kinder eggs and reasonably priced insulin into Vermont.

Mexicans can enter Canada without a visa thanks to free trade. Most of them enter Montreal or Toronto and its a short drive to the USA. However, we have a same problem with people entering the USA first and coming straight to the Canadian border, which is against international law for refugees, but the USA won't do anything about that. So either both fix the problem or it will never go away.
@@RacerX888 There was a visa requirement for Mexicans entering Canada from the previous government, but Trudeau removed it as soon as he got into power. At the end of Feb/24 the visa requirement was re-introduced due to the huge increase of Mexicans illegally crossing the border.
As a Canadian I'll say that this is a problem that we both face, we've had a lot sneak in or illegally cross into Canada from the US. This a threat to both our countries.

I am very familiar with this area. I grew up with spending many summers on both sides of the border. I always thought that if a foreign country of malicious intent wanted to invade either part, this would be most vulnerable for both sides. Many people living in this area for generations have families on both sides of the border. And when an outsider is from Mexico or Pakistan, it is not hard to spot.
I live in NY close to Champlain, a few weeks ago as I was on my way down a back road close to the border 6 young guys tried to flag me down as it was about 7 degrees that morning and here I am in a Honda civic they actually tried to block my path I floored it and held the horn, they moved I got home and called the border patrol
Canada had a problem with mexican Nationals coming and then making asylum claims. They previously required travel Visa's until 2016. Trudeau made this change to pander to immigrants and bleeding hearts. He was still able to create political capital from Stephen Harper's "oldstock Canadians" comment. "Oldstock" translated as White, Anglo Christian , which was successfully used to oust Harper. Radical elements of the Democratic Party have made it doctrine ( and got a President elected) to say migrants are never illegal, but are pursuing their human rights. Trudeau has about a 5 year head start. Maintaining borders is too fundamental to have such differences of opinion.

My whole family; both sides, Scott's Irish and French, were able to get into Canada in the mid 1800s. They strategically settled in Que, right across the border until the immigration to the US became possible. They all came in through Ellis Island and went to Canada. It took a few years, but they got in.

There are a lot of places that have road access, but they are sparsely populated, and the kind of area that people know one another in the villages (that is all that is in between the Cascades to the great lakes). Most are not crossable though, especially in the winter. The most common area to cross would be The other side of N Dakoda. It has already been shown that the cartels have married into the indigenous tribes (not in large numbers but enough to be noticed by tribal authorities). The only other state that has an easy access to the CA border is WA. And that is fairly small, as the Cascades take up a large portion, along with Glacier National park. Something tells me most peoples from the equatorial regions are not really prepared for a winter up here. Vancouver is the main corridor into the US. Be interesting to see what the crop cycle is going to be like this year. I know they depend on the illegals to help, especially the labor intensive crops (greens, gourds, berries all come to mind). Even as far North as Lynden, you don't see those good old Dutch settlers doing the work in the fields.
Actually lots of the Whatcom Co. berry growers employ school bus drivers and local teenagers to harvest berries . However a lot of farmland in that region-on both sides of the 49th- have been purchased by more recent immigrants. Tunnels were discovered north of Lynden , also there is an old closed crossing shown on vintage road maps east of Sumas. It works both ways. Over 32 thousand tried to cross illegally from the USA to Canada. Canada is closing down some of the obvious illegal crossing sites like Roxham road, and have started to require visas for certain countries. It can be tricky for airport border agents to distinguish tourists and family visits from potential illegal migrants. The northern border isn't quite as out of control as the southern border. Both countries are working together to reduce this problem.
