Ryu, the last level had checkpoints! I imagine that the idea is that you have to beat each section within 30 seconds, but not in one go. You beat the section in 30 seconds, get the checkpoint, and then continue to the next one. The dev had to put dev exits in order to upload it, because he has to beat it in one go, but also from the different checkpoints. I don't think it's a trolly level, but its concept was misunderstood. You should try it again.
Rafael Porto I totally agree with this. That level probably had extras, like the challenge of collecting all the coins. The dev had to complete all the checkpoint paths, as well, to upload it. The paths might have had there own unique challenges that are doable.
I believe that Ryu found the P-switch coaster part to be unbeatable given the limited time the P-switch had. The concept sounds neat but I don't blame him for considering the level trolly.

I generally don't enjoy when people remake levels from rom hacks they haven't played, especially with the different physics...but that one seemed on point I must say. Props to the creator
yeah, it was really fun! this was one of the few levels that could even be replicated accurately, too. we just need that Big Bertha DLC in Mario Maker...

The 30 second level was suppose to be a bunch of 30 second time limit levels in one level...which obviously you can't technically do without a dev door as you found out.

I feel like that final level wasn't a troll at all. It says 30 second short-s- implying that there are 2 30 second levels. I think it's two levels in one that the user can play. Beat the first one in 30 seconds and then beat the second one in 30 seconds
Thanks for playing my level Ryu! Most people here are correct - each section can be beaten in the 30 second time limit and then you die! I didn't expect the cheese at the end of the first section or else you would have died immediately. I have another level that is the same but without the checkpoints and a 120 second timer if you want to check it out - supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/5304-0000-029E-FD47. You do need to ride the blue coaster all the way to the end of the second section.
Awesome level, man. I understood the level's concept as soon as I saw him hit the first checkpoint, I thought: "Oh, now the name makes sense!" Very creative.
Its a shame that neither Ryu or Thomandy gave it a legit clear, but I'll certainly be trying to do so when I get back to my Wii U, looks like a great concept.
04:40 though. Loved the flashbacks to the ROM Hack for sure. The recreation level was really awesome. Timing with the bomb was righteous, even though you made the best goof aferwards. ♥
it's totally possible how ells he beat it from the checkpoint there is no door at the saws this time also i know how to clear the coins where the P runs out use the pow to knock them down stay on the platform till the end
Literally nothing, NOTHING against recent Ryu vids. Love 'em, and keep 'em coming!! But man, this stuff has a different feel/energy. It's nostalgic, I guess. I've been watching a long time, and going back to these vids just feels... fresh(??) I guess. Good stuff ^_^
Ryu, the last level was called 30 second shorts. It was short parts you had to do in thirty seconds. He had to put im a dev door. You were supposed to not use it.
Remaking that kamikaze level was a great idea! 7:20 - That little "pocket" for the spring was pretty cool! 7:57 - That first try tho 13:00 - 13:20 - I've never seen a level turn to 100 Mario Super Expert so quickly! 17:30 - Ah yes, the ol' dev door. Classic!
I don't think the idea was to complete the full level in under 30 seconds. Its called 30 second shorts so I assume thats why the check points are there, its like another 30 second short level to the next checkpoint, til you win eventually
That's why there were dev doors. The general concept of the level for upload only works with dev doors, but one doesn't need the dev doors to complete it as designed.
Tho it wasn't a garbage lvl, it had a unique and cool concept, obviously bad for a 100man but, that's on Nintendo for not giving the creators the option to limit where the levels will appear
I think there was a serious thought on the last one.. after u push the p switch there is a pow (right at the thwomps). I think u need to throw this to clear the coins that show the crossed O and you can go on to the next stage
i dont think the guy had bad intentions when making the dev skip it could be he just wanted to make a unique level by have a tight timer and forcing a death at a checkpoint to restart the timer for another close call making it a longer speedrun level then just 30 seconds. but since you have to complete it without checkpoints he couldn't possibly do that in 1 go so he hid a dev door really well so no one would easily find it so he can upload it. and im assuming he actually tested his level at least to make sure stuff was doable since he had a obvious plant for that coaster and everything else planned out. so while theres a dev skip i don't feel like he did it out of ill intentions
In the last level, there has to be another way to beat the level. Because creators are forced to beat the level from every checkpoint, and I don't think there is a way to return from the checkpoint to get the star of the first section.

“30 Second Shorts” was legit level with an odd catch Basically a collection of mini gauntlets each with 30 seconds. Would be a nightmare in 100 man but it obviously was not meant for that. The DevDoor is also because you have to do it in 1 go to upload without checkpoints to reset the timer.

Someone finds dev cheats hidden in a game for development purposes: "Woah, cool!" Someone finds a dev skip hidden in a level for development purposes: "What a scumbag!"
Dev cheats for game development are to be expected that just how you test a game, Cheese added by the dev cuz he cant complete his own level is a different matter.
@@NPCGamerGuys that wasn't cheese? It was a dev skip because it was completely impossible to complete in one go, going the intended route of course. Every CP must have had a way to finish the level, not because the creator wasn't good enough, but cause of SMM's limited level design tools. It was probably a pretty cool level, was a shame he didn't go through with it

That's what a devdoor is. It's so the creator of the map can clear it to upload it even if they can't handle the difficulty of their *own* map, which is a dick move. If your own level is so hard that even you can't clear it, then you probably shouldn't be uploading it.
Um yeah the dev door is necessary to upload the level, but it also lets you circumvent playing each section which is unfair. The game just needs the checkpoints to reset the time back to the start value on the upload run. Then dev doors wouldn't be necessary.
@@shanewilliams4614 Except when you upload a level, you have to beat the ENTIRE LEVEL in ONE shot. If you make a level like that 30 second shorts, where it takes 90 seconds to beat the entire level, but only has 30 seconds on each checkpoint (to make a challenge), you CANNOT beat the level in one go; you HAVE to use checkpoints to play it the way it was intended. See why the dev door is needed now?

Really quite disappointing you went for the dev skip on the last level, it was obviously a hard level that used the timer for each checkpoint, as such the title 30 Seconds Shorts. If you look back at 16:54, you can see a floating pow that you should have used to remove the coins that block your road, and then done the rest. Why even bother showcasing a level if you're just going to edit and check for the dev door?
i showcased my experience playing the level. maybe it was apparent to you (albeit from the perspective of someone backseat playing), but it wasn't to me at the time.
It's still a garbage troll level. Watch Thomandy's video. It's impossible to get anywhere from the check point in 30 seconds. And besides, for me a dev skip in a level automatically makes it garbage.
Johan Gustafsson Couldn't disagree more. And I really despise the attitude people have towards dev skips. The fact is that because of the forced whole level + all checkpoints to upload thing, you simply can't do certain fun things without a dev skip. This is one of those things. I personally made a level that just took too long to finish in one go, but I still beat every part of it. People didn't even bother, because oh no, a dev skip, that must mean the level is shit. Prejudice much? People will play troll levels by the dozens, but a well constructed challenging level with a dev skip? Pffft.

I think since the level is called "30 second shorts" is you're supposed to get to the checkpoint and then die and you restart at each checkpoint with a fresh 30 seconds. but the hidden door is pretty nuts

Not a Mario player here - can someone explain what Kaizo is? Why are they called Kaizo blocks and Kaizo levels? I'm imagining for levels it means that they require tricks, but I'm not sure.
So what defines something as kaizo and what is a kaizo block, I know what the mod is, but is a kaizo block just a troll block and the kaizo level just something that has similarly hard mechanics to the kaizo mod?
I know it doesn't matter now but for the 30 seconds shorts level, the understanding of it comes from its title. It's shorts, not short, meaning more then one. The level is split up into segments that can be done in around 30 seconds, every check point should basically be considered a different level. You aren't meant to complete the whole thing in a single 30 seconds, rather each segment in around 30 seconds. The dev skip was just there so the dev didn't have to waste time completing the whole thing to have the level uploaded. But every segments is completable, they aren't troll routes to waste your time. Using the dev skip just means you actually failed to complete the level as intended. It wasn't even cheese since you took the level into the editor to find the dev skip.
More accurately, the dev skip is there because you have to beat a level from beginning to end in one go to upload it & that would be impossible without the dev skip. So it wasn't done to save himself the trouble of playing his own level. It was done out of necessity.
