If South East London needs TFL services, here’s suggestions. A) Elizabeth Line extension to Gravesend. B) DLR extension to Belvedere and Dagenham Dock from Gallions Reach via Thamesmead. C) Bakerloo line extension to Beckenham and Hayes. D) New Overground service between Cannon Street/Charing Cross and Orpington.
@@epiconeil3772 It would replace Southeastern’s current services to Orpington, similar to the replacements that occurred between Liv Street and Cheshunt/Chingford.
@@britishguy54dx it doesn’t change anything though? It still just trains running to Orpington, the frequency wouldn’t be upped either because of other trains running on the same line
@@britishguy54dx there’s no difference, tfl wouldn’t up the frequency because there’s still other trains on the line, it would just be the same thing waste of money
I have my own proposal but I dont know if its that good, it is the extension of the New Cross branch to Bromley North but as others said, there are alot of trains on that line so more trains maybe would not fit in
@MantisSZNYA2 as does the rest of the boroughs of Richmond and Kingston. If Twickenham was connected to the District line it would make journeys so much nicer for me.
To all the people saying London doesn't need more infrastructure: yes it has much higher investment than the rest of the country. But public transport use is so much higher they regularly have to close underground stations to avoid deaths from crushing.
Its not a case of 'regularly have to close underground stations to avoid deaths from crushing.' That is bs. What may happen during busy periods is access into the station may be temporarily halted for 10-15 mins in order to allow platforms to clear/become less busy &/or routes between platforms may be changed (by opening or closing gates) making it slightly longer for people to get to the platforms.
If it had been planned years ago maybe Ann Bolean could have travelled on it to the Tower of London for her controversial beheading by her crossly over weight obnoxious husband Fat Henry 8th. Or god shouldn't of said that I have a couple of Beefeaters at my front door with pikes waiting to arrest me for treason all because of a waist of money tube line.
I've watched a couple of videos about city planning and infrastructure in London. Is it me or doesn't it seem like people living in Chelsea always resist new development?
I think with the coronavirus, CR2 will be postponed, and neutered somewhat. What they may do is build the tunnels, but not build all the stations. Stations can come later. They put the infrastructure in place for future expansion, and when expansion occurs, they can just build the stations.
I could see the line ending up being called the Palace Line (Hampton Court and the Ally Pally are both on the proposed map). With all due deference to her maj, she already had the Jubilee Line before they renamed XR1. Even Queen Victoria doesn't have a line directly named for her (the Victoria Line is named after the station, which is named after the street, which is named after her).
I think it'll be named after whoever is monarch at the time it opens. IF it is built and opens (it is a big IF). I think the next 4 monarchs in line are Male.
Call be crazy but it seems to me that with HS2 and Crossrail 2 there's going to need to be a lot of work at Euston, Euston Square, Kings Cross and St Pancras. With all of the stations so close together it's surely going to make sense to create one big 'Northern Stations Interchange' as it were. It's going to be expensive and take a lot of time and disruption but wouldn't this be a sensible time whilst Euston is already up in the air to do the work at Camden to seperate the Northern into two distinct lines and to generally tidy up the lines around the these stations to create one much more useful very high capacity station?
Call me crazier but considering that LSPI and London Euston will be a terminus of HS1 and HS2 respectively, a highly cost-effective way of linking the two high-speed rail services would be with moving walkways along a 600-metre tunnel. The Euston St Pancras station could then be linked to the two railway stations by a perpendicular tunnel, also featuring moving walkways, intersecting the HS1-HS2 tunnel midway.
@@_JohnDoe I can't be certain but I think that will happen. Eventually. HS2 works at Euston have been going on for years...you can see the works travelling in and out of Euston. Initially (and I haven't seen the video yet) Crossrail 2 would be designed to have access to both stations so there would be a link anyway (probably not with moving walkways - it would be nice but they are a lot more expensive and complex to install and maintain). Liverpool Street Crossrail Station does have a fixed link to Moorgate station for access to the Northern line.
@@Weesperbuurt that would have to be a seperate branch from st pancras as luton is quite a bit further to the west than stansted, and a stanstead to luton line would completely bypass london
dog. I’m being ironic. Nothing could be worse than the Muslim take-over, but it’s happening. The British have gone insane. Now they are complaining about selling police shields to the American police. I dread to think what’s happening to this country. It’s not the usual mentally insane, it’s the BBC and Sky News etc etc. They are insane as well of course but we always assumed they were normal rational people and they are central to our civilisation. I can’t see a way back from this.
That would be one way to raise revenue, get it sponsored by the insurance brand (so every roundel would have to include the bulldog mascot under the central bar)...
It seems weird that is goes through literally all of south West London but doesn't stop at twickenham, which would make sense because of the rugby and concerts at the stadium
an alternative to this would be a Northern line extension from Battersea (opening in 2021) ,Clapham Junction ,surfacing at Barnes, taking over the loop then terminating at Strawberry Hill via Twickenham stadium?
Not even serving South London really, just a bit of South West London. Let's hope the Bakerloo Line extension gets funding in priority to CrossRail 2: we've only been waiting for that since the 1920s.
It would be a rather good idea for CR2 to start soon after CR1 completes so you can retain the skilled experienced workforce before they get taken up by other infrastructure contracts.
If cr2 gets built, there may be scope for a useful Victoria Line extension. The latter can't happen at the moment literally because the train is already full at Brixton
And that's just the borough map area. The *real* population of the urbanised landmass is closer to 20 million and over 23 million in the wider definition.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the population in the future. With so many companies announcing their workers only need to be on the office one or two days a week, we may see a large number of people choose to live all over the country and commute in rarther than stay in London
@@mittfh The trouble is that people will then start claiming that as the actual cost and make out that it's gone up, which is why I'm highly sceptical about some of the inflated figures for HS2!
Seeing as the queen is Queen Victoria's great great granddaughter, perhaps crossrail 2 can be named after Queen Elizabeth's great great granddaughter.... and she will probably have 1 by the time Crossrail 2 is complete
It will probably be named after one of the royals so that the executives can get their knighthoods, but please not the Charles line as he only travels by plane or helicopter in case he has to mix with the peasants.
For proper continuity, Crossrail 2 should quite obviously be called the William line or the George line. Depends on who's the reigning monarch when it finally opens.
Interesting there was a line from Sevensisters to Palace Gates. The line followed West Green Road to West Green Station where Phillip Lane and West Green Road meet the next station was Joel Park which was on Woodgreen high road, it is where the West Green shopping centre now stands. The terminus was only a few hundred yards east of Wood Green station now called Alexander Palace. The line closed on 7 th Jan 1963 It really went down hill when the Piccadilly tube line was extended north to Cockfosters from Finsbury park. Funny if the rail corridor had my been built on I'm sure by now the line would have had a connection linking Woodgreen to Sevensisters. As it was there was a connection to the loop line to Hertford Morth
this could easily be brought down to the woking/guildford area as it’s on the mainline as is raynes park but watch them just ignore that possibility flat out
What about building the line from Peterborough-Bedford and taking trains from the north directly into Clapham Junction? How much of the overcrowding is down to people simply transiting London when they don't need to?
I signed up for Crossrail 2 emails but no information provided so far on what will happen to homes built next to lines between Tottenham and Broxbourne
excessive branching is a really bad idea: 4 branches, two for each end is the most each express subway (RER, Crossrail, S-Bahn) should permit. More branches means less frequency, which means that you move away from rapid transit toward commuter rail. Moreover, more branches means that the risk of incidents/delays is heightened.
So you want to use existing 2 track lines north of the core section (idk about the south if anyone wants to fill me in), on that existing line is multiple level crossings for vehicles and some foot crossings. As someone who has been to brimsdown station (one of cross rail 2’s proposed north stations), the level crossing is every 3-10 minutes anyway and 4 tracks is not possible as housing limitations. So if it’s max 15 tph on cross rail 2 (15 to new Southgate to make the 30 mentioned) then add that to the already large 15-20 tph Greater Anglia stuff (stopping and not) then it would be far to much for the line and something would need to be done. Unless I don’t know and it is possible idk
They plan to quad track it, work has already been done as far as Meridian water with 3 tracks in place and route cleared for 4. The line was previously quad all the way out of London and looking on Google maps most of the route still seems clear, would need to rebuild and expand all the stations though.
The music used in this clip is 'Bad Snacks - Leveled Up!', and she's a fantastic artist who you should go and check out! This music was sourced from the RU-vid Audio Library and that attribution on this track is NOT required, but it's nice to do it anyway and give exposure to the artists who's work you are using for free.
It needs to extend further southwest, looks like both Wimbledon and Clapham Junction will be rebuilt, hopefully the later will have the northern line extended from Battersea to it, there are some interesting proposals online for those stations.
You say Northern line extended to Clapham junction from Battersea power stn? I been thinking myself was from Waterloo to Clapham junction extension of 'Waterloo & City' line form Bank and Waterloo, I just know but how emerged to solve the puzzle like this.
Clapham Junction is going to have to be completely redone, as it’s just huge at that point, with national rail, southwestern, tube links, a huge amount of buses and crossrail 2. Literally going to be just as large as Euston at that point.
@@johnm2012 There was a proposal to build a Crossrail branch from Old Oak Common to the West Coast Main Line, which would've achieved that in combination with the Abbey Wood branch
@@travia6688 There was a proposal to extend the Abbey Wood branch to Dartford but it got scrapped. Hopefully the Bakerloo line extension will go ahead, although I probably would've moved out of SE London and graduated from Uni by the time it is finished. I wouldn't even care about SE London getting a tube or crossrail line if Southeastern trains weren't so damn unreliable!
I'm all for local power in this regard. I'm with them. They don't want it to be too easy to drag people from less prosperous areas to their neighbourhood and 'hang around' and I don't blame them to be honest given the evidence of what I have seen elsewhere in London.
I'm sure it was Boris who called for it to be called the Churchill Line (among other comments here). Though I for one would love the Chelney Line name to live on. Not only does it have history it the various predecessor proposals it is also an established name among our circles. Anyway, I doubt Churchill would approve of having a railway named after him. From what I've read of him, he didn't care much for vanity though I could be sorely mistaken.
The Crossrail 2 project, will all depend on the success of the Crossrail 1 project. Whilst TFL is currently trying to fund a black hole of £1.5B, the Crossrail 1 project could be its saving grace. The two busiest lines on the underground network, are currently the Northern line and Central line with a carrying capacity of 294 million and 289 million passengers per annum respectively. The current Crossrail 1 project (Elizabeth line) , is expected to carry 200 million passengers per annum. Personally, I think this a conservative figure. The Central line is almost parallel to the Elizabeth line, in terms of it running from East to West and cutting through the city and west end and the Elizabeth line will be the preferred option for most commuters who live within the "inner zone influence," of a Crossrail station. In comparison to the Central line and the Northern line, the best way to describe the Elizabeth line, is that it has all the standard features of the busiest lines but so much more! Wider carriages, longer carriages, shorter journey times, more frequent trains per hour, direct trains to all Heathrow terminals and more.
Another Willy line already been running for 161 years : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lVvff2Jf1a4.html If you ask about the Willy train in Melbourne they will think you are a local, so your comment sparked a response to me.
Whatever happened to Crossrail 2 stopping at Piccadilly Circus? I swear most of the historic Chelsea-Hackney lines intended to stop there (and maybe early plans for Crossrail 2?), but it's not on more recent official plans
Chelsea-Hackney was for shorter tube-length trains. The Crossrails have 250+ metre platforms. The south exit of Tottenham Court Road will be nearby and Piccadilly Circus wouldn't add much connectivity.
There is a arrow on the right in Hackney Central for the Eastern Branch up towards Basildon and 2 branches to Grays. This will stop through in East Ham.I live in East Ham.
Hey @Londonist_Ltd, some people know always say about Philip or Phil Line, or whatever anybody names it. I thought my preferred guess for me was; "Chelsea Line" of Crossrail2.

As wikipedia suggests: Above ground, after surfacing south of Wimbledon station, using the existing SWML slow line, and providing between 4 and 20 trains per hour, the southern section comprises: - 20 trains per hour at Raynes Park National Rail - 8-10 trains per hour at Motspur Park National Rail - Exclusive use of the Chessington branch line to Chessington South at 4 trains per hour - Mixed (shared) use of the Raynes Park - Epsom line to Epsom National Rail (Sutton and Mole Valley lines) (4-6 trains per hour) - 10-12 trains per hour at New Malden National Rail - Exclusive use of the Hampton Court branch line to Hampton Court at 4 trains per hour via shared station Surbiton National Rail - Shared use of the bulk of the Kingston Loop Line via Kingston National Rail at 6-8 trains per hour to Teddington National Rail and 4 trains per hour onward to Shepperton National Rail
