My grandmother (1910-2001) had some of those old carding combs which belonged to her mother. She told me they were used to card cotton. We didn’t have much sheep or wool in the South. Carded cotton could be used for the padding inside homemade quilts. Scraps of fabric from old dresses and shirts were used to make quilts.

Hi Robert. Those paddles are for carding cotton or wool. It straightens out the fibers as you comb them back and forth until they mostly sit in line with each other. Then, you spin it into cotton or wool yarn or thread for weaving, crocheting, or knitting. We so enjoy your videos.

Friendly suggestion - You have a boatload of cinderblocks all over your place. Why don’t you employ some of them as temporary supports under those iffy floor joists while you’re clearing out those rooms? You don’t have to do all the joists at once. Just work your way front to back as you remove the clutter and maybe cut out the floor boards up the next joist then move the blocks to that one. No crawling under the house to do them and alleviates most of the worry of you and whatever you haven’t cleaned from the room falling through the floor on top of you. You should also look into getting a laser tape measure, too. Like an extra pair of hands only digital and seriously more accurate. Oh, and double check those loose fabric pieces. Could be linen. I have a couple of 110 year old made in Ireland linen table cloths I found in my house. Will not part with them for any price. Keep pushing. It’s hard dirty work, but you’ll get there and feel good about it when you look at the house and finally see it smiling at you.

Interesting finds. The weather socks, I know 😅The video reminds me of when I was doing some major cleaning of one of my houses way after my grandparents had passed away. That radio probably had the back made from plywood like material. The clock and the vintage camera are cool also they would make great display items at the Old Byrd Farm house. The metal cabinet is probably office or army cabinet🤔 so if you move it out of the house you could still use it as a tools cabinet or animals food storage cabinet... Im not sure that you can do much with many those old clothes though. Maybe keep the very good preserved ones...or use the bad ones to make a scarecrow...But better check all of the pockets, you already found a US Quarter😃

Those wool paddles are interesting cause I don't think they did wool in Georgia. So they must have come from somewhere else. Someone in the family must have been involved in the work a very long time ago. Hold on to them. That is a story there. Also, I thought I saw some cool out fabric that had red and white stripes? Like it was an old apron. Even if you don't use it it would look great as display hanging in an old kitchen. Some fabric can still be good after all these years. And the SOCKS are always handy for working and cleaning rags. Even in my days we never threw away old cloths because you never knew when it could be used or we needed to reuse buttons and zippers for new outfit. Vintage buttons can be valuable. Keep the looker for the new ol back porch!

They are carding combs, for wool, alpaca etc. First shear sheep, then pick thru the wool to get out sticks, poop, etc. Then soak the wool in cold water water with with Dawn. Be caresful to handle the wool minimally and don’t agitate it too much (or it will felt). Then lay it outside on a screen, or wore or even a sheet. Once the wool is dry, unless it needs to be washed again, you pull it into some long locks and apply to one side of the carder. Put it on the carder in. even an even, thin layer of strips. Hold one carder in each hand. Turn one around and comb 🎉he loaded rider evenly until most of the wool is on the other carder. Repeat until the wool is a nice, smooth even roving. This may be used for spinning, felting, weaving, or even lining quilts etc.

Hi Robert, I suspect that what you have found in the locker is a bunch of items that were intended to be used to make quilts. Lots of quilters used to hoard up old, no-longer-serviceable items of clothing to cut into strips or blocks for pieced quilts. The scraps made filler to put between the decorative front and the plainer back then all three layers were quilted together. The two pieces of wood with metal teeth and handles are fibre combs, called carding combs. I only know them as being used to smooth and straighten out wool fibre for spinning yarn, but there's no reason I know of that they couldn't have been used to process cotton fibre to be spun into sewing thread.

That would be perfect to store small garden equipment in and bags of fertilizer, etc. Spray paint it to match the house and it can look good. I use small file cabinets laid on their backs as planters after adding drainage holes and painting them. I fill them up partially with plastic bottles to take up space it lots of cut branches. I do the same with the drawers?

Sharon here...the two paddle brushes are for wool, for combing the fiber. Antiques, keep them and look up, wool yarn making.

Carding combs for smoothing wool fibers before spinning into wool yarn. Uses sheep wool. It would be amazing if you found a spinning wheel or spinning thimbles.

The “frilly fabric” are scarves. They are most likely silk. The striped pink fabric looks like apron. Some of the dresses look like they are from the 40s. If you pan out on the radar you will see the clouds in entire eastern half of the U.S. is going in a counter clockwise rotation. It seems to be cause by the tropical storm in the Atlantic. I did the same thing when I first saw it. It is unusual. I have old clocks like the one you plugged in. They all still run well. Mine are from the 60s.
