I have just decided to go back to the absolute basics. Shampoo, deep conditioner, leave in and grease. Let me tell you my hair and scalp have never looked better. All of the new trends have been a huge disappointment for me. I have bald spots and breakage that was never an issue with the OG products
Being doing the same and my hair feels better. The problem with trends is they make you feel like you're missing on something, and when everybody has jumped on it, you feel pressured in some kind of way and end up disappointed
@@kit-kat9701I totally hear you…they’ll have you feeling like you’re not doing enough. I think prioritizing health instead of length is what keeps you focused
@@dimakatsomushwane4310 I agree with you. When this line came out, many hair youtubers talked about how long it made their hair grow, and that was what caused everyone to run and purchase it.
Thank you, Mya, for sharing how to take care of longer thick 4c hair and styles to make life easier when doing our hair. The key thing I have learned is that it takes time to take care of this beautiful hair were blessed with. This hair protects our scalp from the sun. If you really think about it. For years, we were brainwashed to believe we have to have straight hair like white women. And we relaxed, straightened, and chemically rearranged our hair to be " socially accepted" by Americas white standards. Many black women with 4c hair and hairstyles could not get decent paying jobs because of our hair. I am so glad those days are over. We've come into our own now. Wear your twists and braids and cornrows with style young ladies. I still like Bonner Brothers products when I can find them, Royal Crown, Blue Magic, and Suave Products to shampoo and condition. Read the ingredients that agree with your hair type. The CAMILLE ROSE grease or butter with chebe works for me. I see less breakage when I use this product when combing brushing and styling my hair. Glad you shared how henna and protein works. I want the Mielle products line to succeed.
People don’t understand hair science and so we fall for gimmicks. People also don’t use products as instructed or understand what their specific hair needs and then want to get mad when they don’t get the results they want.
I'VE NEVER KNOWN HAIR PRODUCTS TO MATT NEGRO HAIR WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. ANYTIME MONEY INVOLVED, HERE COME GREEDY DEVILS. SO I SEEK GOD THROUGH CHRIST JESUS IN WHAT TO GET FOR MY HAIR AND BODY..AND PRAYING OVER IT IN JESUS NAME.
I started reading labels 20 years ago when it comes to haircare products. I also read labels when it comes to food. However, I mainly eat organic whole foods. Cut out process foods. 👍🏽🤗
I think henna is the reason my hair is so long. There’s not protein in it but yes it does have protein properties. And you sure do need a moisturizing follow up. Anyway, gorgeous 💜💜
Even if you're not using it to dye your hair, once henna gets into your hair, it stays there forever and WILL NOT come out unless you cut your hair (the overuse would always explains the loosening of the curl pattern some people experienced). It feels deceptive to put henna in a product and not label it, since, unlike silicones etc. that can be washed off with Shampoo, Henna binds to your hair cuticle on a deep level. I don't want that in my hair.
@@raquel6205 No it's not and I doubt they put enough in the products to make a big difference. It's usually just a gimmick ingredient added in minute amount because they know it's trendy in the natural hair community.
@@BionAvastar3000 Because the henna product in question is henna extract not henna powder, you commented, Even if you're not using it to dye your hair, once henna gets into your hair, it stays there forever and WILL NOT come out unless you cut your hair. I was thinking to myself there is no way that the extract can dye your hair. I’m asking because I don’t want my natural hair colour to change. But I think I misunderstood your comment and you simply meant that it (the henna extract) would bind to the cuticle forever and you didn’t want that.
Thank you for your grace and class in approaching this hair issue with my L. I think that we should know that with Hannah you cannot mix it with other treatments or chemical dies/relaxers very well. My west African friends tell me that Hannah can dry your hair out when mixed with, some of the products that are being marketed now and 2024
Oops, I should have waited. You mentioned that issue with Hannah. Lol keep it up girl and don’t let anybody bring you down. Btw…. The class action suit if there is one should have been about the tiny font they use for ingredients. I’m sure most women including me would not have bought the product especially the green bottle ones if we knew it contained Hannah.
This is like Deva Curl all over again. Everyone has a theory. Henna is not in the first 5 ingredients, so I hardly think that henna was the culprit to the hair loss. You were right in the observation that the women had unhealthy hair, so logically, they would turn to a line marketed to help their hair to regain its health. It is also correct to say that too much of a "good thing" can have terrible results. They obviously did not alternate the wash days with strengthening and moisturizing. Had they done that, it may not have been the case. We must not forget that mint can be very drying as well. I know that mint dries imy hair out, so I ensure I have something moisturizing to balance the impact. It all comes in knowing your hair and what works and what doesn't. it is obvious to me that the women did not know their hair and were just looking for a solution to their issues, and unfortunately, it ended badly for them. They are now revealing their experience. How does this make them villains? As a manufacturer, If u say these products can be used every day or together, then you have liability. I know some companies have instructed that this type of product be used every 3 to 4 weeks or 3 or 4 washdays to ensure they are not overused and cause damage to people's hair. Why was this not done on this line? When creating formulas, you must know their impact on the consumer's hair. You go through testing, etc, and this should drive your instructions, but it's not reflected on these products. Why is that? We then have to question if the manufacturer cares about your hair or their bottom line. We, as consumers, need to ask ourselves the hard questions in circumstances like these and not take sides. We have to ask the whys??? Think about things logically. In conclusion, I think consumers are too trusting and need to educate themselves to avoid being taken advantage of by any company, whether hair or otherwise.
Good evening. I think you made some great points and asked some great questions. I never said Henna was the only culprit for the issues that Mielle is having, there are many contributing factors. This video was to highlight that we as consumers need to be more diligent when we are purchasing products, myself included. Back in 2020/21 when I tried the Rosemary line I can admit that I was not reading haircare labels. Had I known henna was in the collection I more than likely would have not purchased, I know how strong henna is. I am aware of the potency vs ingredients list, but I know people who cannot use henna simply because of how strong it can be. Thank you for watching
It is your channel that turned me on to organic Ayurvedic haircare. I am 62, and now I dye my hair 3 times a year by combining a henna mixture with a indigo mixture. Must mix these separately. To help add moisture to the henna mixture I add aloe vera powder, fenugreek powder, Alma power, and Alma oil. I know that when I dye my hair it will be dry. I leave it in a bonnet for 3 days so to let the color set before I add moisturizer to it. I only color my hair to cover up the gray.
I used the rosemary and mint deep conditioner, and my hair tangled up really badly at the end and my scalp has been itching bad every since I'm going back to my less expensive shampoo and conditioner I had way better results they tell you to stay away from sulfates but when I was using them my hair was bouncy and strong and growing. People use what makes your hair healthy and happy 😊. also, your head wrap looks so good you look like an African princess.
Hi Mya! Good video with extremely valid points. Definitely important to look at ingredients in your hair care products. I was also stunned by the reaction of Tamara. It reminds me of Curly Hair Crisis and when her hair reacted from Protein overload. Very similar to Tamara's experience with the matting and inability to detangle without losing a lot of hair. Horrifying and sad how different women have been affected. Thank you for sharing your insight and I hope Mielle, P& G and Monique can regroup and come up with a suitable resolution.
I was a bit shocked when I initially heard the news about the line. I not to long ago bought a ton of products from Mielle from the sale they had. I honestly have not seen any bad results from using the rosemary line. I have type 4 hair so I always use hydrating products. I have been using chebe grease to twist my hair long with hair milk/lotion after using the rosemary line products. My hair is plenty moisturized so I have had no problems. Thank you for sharing this because I was afraid of using the products after seeing the news but now I am confident that I am ok using the line with my current routine. 🙂
I use henna gloss every week and do a full henna treatment every month. I have studied ayurvedic haircare and herbs for years . I agree, you must obtain and maintain a moisture protein balance. However, I am allergic to castor oil so, I never used the Mielle products. My hair is 3b 3c waist length. ❤from California
Looking Gorgeous as always! Thank you for this. We are sheep looking for a shepard and it's comforting someone cares about our concerns. So true, Know thyself comes with know thy hair!
As someone who likes to DIY my own stuff and use organic ingredients, i agree with the first comment about ingredients. I looked at Mielle's Rosemary line and a lot of ingredients do promote growth but these ingredients (mostly the essential oils) are very well known irritants. Just because something is organic doesn't necessarily mean that it's good in the long run. Essential oils need to be used sparingly or be diluted, however they are on top of the list in the rosemary mint line. I use the shampoo in that collection once a month and decided to hold off on the oil because that type of product cannot be used daily. I just apply my sulfur 8 and moisturize as usual after I use the shampoo. I can't imagine the amount of damage using the whole line for each wash day, while using the oil daily must do to the skin and hair.
Good morning! Thank you for sharing. And this is why I wanted to do the video. I am getting better with reading my labels for my Haircare. I can admit back in 2020- 21 when I tried the line I did not read the directions. Had I read the directions I would have followed up the daily styling cream with some type of moisturizing product.
@@KlassicallyKeptI just went back to what has always worked for years. Sulfur 8 shampoo, a deep conditioner, then some good ol grease of some kind Bergamot. Hair looks and feel great.
This was an amazing video, and it definitely shed light on this issue. I was using three products of this line-the shampoo, the masque, and the oil (I have the edge control but never used it). I didn't experience the issues some of the women have stated because when I used the conditioning masque, I would mix in a small amount of a moisturizing conditioner and some oils, and I follow up with a moisturizing leave-in and old school Blue Magic. I also think it is important to assess your hair and make adjustments to your hair regimen accordingly, and not use the same products for months on end, especially if you are no longer getting the results that you once did, or the health of your hair seems to be failing. The Rosemary and Mint line seemed to have worked for a while, but I have since switched to a different shampoo and masque that I believe will address the current needs of my hair. That being said, I have no qualms about using this line again in the future.
Good evening, and thank you. I am glad you have learned how to listen to your hair. I think it is very important that we learn our hair and pivot when necessary.
Hello Mya thanks for this information. I only used the oil one time and my scalp itched so I didn't use it again. I always read the directions . I will make sure to research the ingredients more.💜🥀
This is why I always check ingredients in new and old products I've used before. Hair companies will sometimes switch up their ingredients without letting consumers know. Also know what these ingredients do in your hair Thank you for making this video about such an important topic. Also love your skin!
This is a great informative video. I use henna for strength and color, and most people don’t realize that it’s nature’s protein treatment. Use henna with caution. I would think that the creators of Mizelle would have put this information out a while ago. Keep up the great work on your channel.
Hey Mattie! I know for me, it was very drying. I can admit back in 2020-21 when I tried it I was not reading directions lol or ingredients for my hair care.
I bought their Sea Moss, for strengthening my strand and it surely lives up to its name. I went ahead and bought the sea moss and prepare it from scratch and realized it definitely strengthens the hair.but using a small amount is paramount. It’s best to combine with another product, like oil or hair grease is best as it’s extremely concentrated and will leave hair very stiff if you apply too much and can eventually brake the hair strand as it does gets stiff if used heavily.
My video was very unbiased and I appreciate that I think the slander Miele is getting is a little uncalled for I have a healthy simple routine where I use the product then slap some peppermint oil on my hair and I’ve noticed my hair has never been more healthier I just think it’s how you use the product these women make sure to say it was oil and NOTHING else
I have use henna many times and henna gloss as hair masked follow by shampoo and conditioner and from many Indians videos i have watched also use henna as hair mask follow by shampoo and conditioner, never have ever seen henna in a shampoo. But something as strong as has henna should have been in the title because henna affects everyone differently.
I don't believe the issue is henna. I only used the mielle rosemary oil and still experienced issues. I think the culprit are the oils in the ingredients
Hello! You are correct, I never said it was henna explicitly. This video was to shine light on the fact that henna/henna extract is in the product and that we need to beware of what we are buying and using. I am aware the lower an ingredient is on the the list the less potent it is, however; henna is very potent and affects people differently.
I use straight up henna in my hair followed by Indigo every 5 weeks for coloring gray. My hair loves it. It is not hard core strength for me. I still need protein a few times a year. It does loosen my hair curl for only for a couple of weeks.
Tamara's hair was already healthy so she definitely didn't need a strengthening treatment. I use henna herb mixed with aloe vera and fenugreek then follow up with a moisturizing conditioner for 30 mins. I only do this every 3 months.
Hi, just watched your video. Great. However, Rosemary is a strengthening herb anyway. I don’t use henna, but I use rosemary so this collection has 2 strengthening ingredients. I have used the other Miele products and love it. Thanks for educating us. Love your videos. Thanks.
I only use the shampoo. I didn't notice that henna with in the ingredient. My hair loves henna so i guess that is why I didn't have any problem with the product.
I notice phrasing like "educate ourselves," being used a lot in regards to this Mielle fiasco. I've been a natural for over 20 years. Since I was 15. I'm old enough to remember OG naturals and how they inspired better healthful treatment of ourselves and to be aware of what we're putting on and in our bodies. In other words we be reading. Idk who these people think they're talking to? Naturals had to do our own research, establish our own science. Now major corporations are gaslighting us as if we don't do this. Listen. I used 1 product from Mielle, and that was the rosemary oil. I used it 1x a week, diluted it in water before applying. I read every bit of the bottle, front to back. The center of my scalp and some of my edges were burned OUT. It hurt. I'm still recovering. I'm very literate. I follow instructions. This is not a consumer issue.
Hello! Great points. I think some companies are unfortunately playing on peoples' ignorance when it comes to hair care. If I am having issues with my hair and I am not sure what is going on or how to remedy the situation, and then I see a new collection come out marketing a solution for damaged hair; if the person is desperate enough they will more than likely buy the new collection. It's kind of like when you go to the doctor and they give a diagnosis or prescribe medicine the average person is going to believe them or adhere to their guidelines, because they are the "professional."
@@KlassicallyKept That could be true. In my experience I applied on virgin hair, with a healthy scalp. I'd purchased the oil before the acquisition with zero problems. Shortly after P&G acquired Mielle was when I saw issues. I'm not prudish about large corporations, or name brands so I'm not feeding into conspiracy theories or the idea of sabatoge. Shoot I use to relax so I'm not hung up about chemicals in products, as long as I'm informed. I'm not high strung about hair. So when I say P&G probably used spoiled or comprised ingredients I'm saying it as objectively as possible.
I have not used mielle but starting this year i used a rosemary conditioner from another hair. After using i would notice sever itching and after a while my hair started loosing its health. It would break and feel like elastic when i merely racked my finger through it was so bad i did a big chop unexpectedly. In my conclusion i just think rosemary products may be not fit for black hair or atleast mine.
The one I use didn't contain henna and I used it atleast two months in between protective styles. When I saw the controversy started I started seeing why my hair got so bad. I was even having bald spots which was never my problem. I think the itchy scalp was my sign that something was wrong.
this is crazy but i started using the mielle mint oil. i put some on my scalp and i had a fan blowing on my head and i could feel my head throbbing and tingling. when i got home i think my hair grew within hours cause my hair was thicker and longer than usual. theres no way this worked. has anyone tried this yet? if not let me know if this actually works for you
Remind me, have you ever used a relaxer? I remember you’ve said your mother has always encouraged your natural beauty, but not you saying that you had a ‘relaxer phase’.
Yes I was once relaxed. When I was young one of my aunts waited until my mother went out of town and took me to get a relaxer. I went natural December 22, 2012.
I have a whole stock of mielle at home and idk what to do now... Its not the green line tho it is the pink line (OG line). Are people having issues with the pink line? I bought SO much online because i liked the brand but if its gonna make my hair fall out ill just give it away or something. I usually like to get my hair pressed out anyways because thats how it likes to retain length. I bought a bunch of mielle for the times I cant make it to my hair lady.
Good morning! So for this video I focused on the Rosemary Mint Collection because in the comment section it seemed like people were having the most issues with this line. However, ladies have reported issues with other lines as well. As for me when I tried the Rosemary line I immediately stopped because I recognized that it was drying out my hair. First I would say look up the ingredients in the current line you have. Just do a quick search. Keep a close watch on your hair. I get it you paid for the products, but if you are uncomfortable stop using it.
@@KlassicallyKept I had a similar issue with the rosemary, mint shampoo and conditioner. As soon as I tried it, I immediately threw it out because I just assumed that it was not meant for me. My hair felt so rough it felt like doll hair. I still really do enjoy the Rosemary mint mask, but that is about it from that line. As far as how much product I have…. It is a lot because I stockpiled but hey you live and learn as you go 🤷🏾♀️
As always you kept it classy and to the point. Thanks to the lady who left that comment. So none of us want to blame anyone going through this and we need to really pay attention to our hair me included. Currently like I said before I have a sensitive scalp and I'm trying to find the best grey coverage that doesn't bother my scalp. I might need to stick to rinses as it doesn't bother my scalp as much. I'm saying all this to say learn your own hair and scalp. Like I stated before this is why to me you saved your hair YOU KNOW IT. I have this thing where I don't like coconut in my hair I could be wrong and it was another ingredient but I just had a bad experience with it more than once so I just decided there are other things I can use so why use it. Let's keep learning our hair ladies and no it isn't always easy or simple to do so 🤎
Good morning and thank you! Exactly, I didnt want to place blame, just wanted to inform. I hope for the ladies experiencing problems they are able to get back on track but also realize they need to be a little more diligent about their hair care. I can admit back in 2020-21 when I tried the Rosemary Mint Collection I was not reading my hair care labels but once I tried it I knew immediately it was a no. Learning our hair is so important. I also hopped on the coconut oil wagon, we were not friends lol.
@@Vienna-ng6ix yes. I only use about 2-3 products but they are ones that are Ayurveda. Plus I don’t use much shampoo. I use more conditioners, butters, etc. I stopped using Mielle at least 3 years ago.
Basique Opulence channel speaks about ingredients in hair care products and has a video on Mielle. Looking Gorgeous and that lavender 🪻 is so pretty on you. 💜💐🙏🏾😀🎉🔥 (Isaiah 65:17; Rev 21:3-6)
I have stuck to my tried and true Bonner Brothers when I can find it. ROYAL crown when I can find it. MURRAY'S and Blue Magic and suave shampoo and conditioner products for years. Recently added Camille Rose chebe grease and have had no problem with my natural hair care. I do like the Camille Rose because of the ingredients listed. I am seeing less breakage when I comb and brush my hair, and after shampooing. Unfortunately, it is still not easy to do. Yes, sisters, with 4C hair, we have take our time doing our hair. Mya has shown us how to actually take time to take care of our hair. Whether it's long and thick or short and thick. Thank you Mya for sharing your hair care routine with so many who follow. I am glad I found this channel on RU-vid. When my hair dresser retired, I didn't know what I was going to do. But I found @KlassicallyKept and even shared with my hair dresser because she had the same belief in healthy eating habits and natural hair routines.
Equally as important as reading the ingredient list, is following the instructions for use! And… perform a product patch test on the most “tender” parts of your scalp; I like to patch test around my ears and/or nape. Other thoughts: I wish more Black-owned hair care lines would sell sample/travel sizes of products to test. Most “mainstream” products have had travel sizes as individual and bundles for decades now. For example Oyin Handmade has travel sizes of most all products, and these sizes are available as bundles in the product lines for $15-$20. A perfect way to determine if their products will work for your hair needs. The bundles are also excellent as gift sets: office, holiday, back-to-school, etc. I just discovered a new Black-owned product line for grey/silver hair, and I would to try it out, however the smallest size available is 8.5 oz.(250 ml). The product line reasonably priced, but I’d happily pay more per ounce for a travel size bundle. If I like/love the product(s) great. However, if the products don’t work as advertised, or my hair/scalp/skin reacts negatively - then I’ll have to discard full-size product and packaging, and I consider that wasteful.
Tamara's hair was already healthy so she definitely didn't need a strengthening treatment. I use henna herb mixed with aloe vera and fenugreek then follow up with a moisturizing conditioner for 30 mins. I only do this every 3 months.
