Insane to think A1 feels outdated. I really feel Sony is shooting themselves in the foot not providing necessary updates to older models; not sure if its simply due to hardware limitations? I wish they approached it similarly like mobile world, where software updates are provided for at least 2-5 years from release.
Yeah, honestly it leaves quite a bitter taste in my mouth about the flagship stuff, but at the same time, I understand that technology moves at breakneck speeds, even though most of the time we fall into the "incremental updates" feel. It is what it is and we'll see what happens in the future hey!
My everyday gear is the Ricoh GRIII, because I am weak. 😂 I am one of those casual shooters that will leave gear at home if it's not convenient. I really prioritise whether a camera will frustrate me to carry it all day and not take photos. It's one of my top 4 deal breakers in purchase decisions. Idk if you feel the same about the RX1, but I feel like there are many photos I could have only taken with my small cameras.
Absolutely. Moments where I can't be bothered to bring my camera bag, I'm always just bringing my RX with me and it's taken so much amazing surprise images I would have never gotten otherwise.
I'm a casual photographer that mostly does street and travel, so I've simplified my entire photography kit down to a tripod, some filters and a Leica Q3.
I too use the peak design 20L and don’t see myself switching from it until they make a new version. Using the A7IV, 24-70GMII, 28mm F2, and the 50mm 1.2 GM
I definitely wanna add the insta360 go 3 to my kit. Right now I use a Brevite runner bag, I shoot on my iPhone 13 Pro and my Canon SL2 with a 24-70mm f2.8 lens.
I also use the Peak Design everyday backpack, but in a 30L size and I enjoy it alot. Don't see myself getting a new bag for ages. I will be using my bag for when I travel soon and later in Japan at the end of the year with my Sony A7C camera with a 35-105mm lense
5:24 hearing that makes me happy that I brought the A7RV over the A1. I was debating which one to get after getting a distinction grade in my Advance Photography course so I made the decision to go A7R5 because of new AI autofocus and the 4 way screen.
My kit is similar to yours. But, I have made lots of changes recently. Last year my travel bag was the PD Everyday Backpack. This year I've switched to Tenba DNA messenger bags. I sold most of my Sony primes. The only one I still have is the 50 GM 1.4. Most of my shots are taken with the 24-70 GM II and 70-200 GM II. I also bought the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters which I like. Sold my 16-35mm GM. I'll order the new 16-35 GM II when it's available. I also have the 100-400 GM for landscape and wildlife and the 200-600 G for wildlife. Sorry this is getting so long. My main cameras are two A7R5 bodies and my pocket camera is the RX100 vii. My travel tripod was a Leofoto LS-365C, but I'm going to try the Leofoto LS-284C.
@@jmvldz I've had a few of the RX100 cameras since they were released. And I've used them quite often when I travel and for family photos. My kit continues to change, since the previous post. The teleconverters worked so well with the 70-200mm GM II that I sold my 100-400mm lens. I tried the 16-35mm GM II, but decided to go with the 20mm G lens instead. The LS-284C has worked out great for travel. And I ordered the Sony A7CII. Lately I'm trying to reduce the size and weight of my kit.
Great video thank you for sharing! I personally don’t like carrying that much so I prefer whenever possible to take PD 6L sling and put one full frame and one extra lens and when I need more lens/gimbal/drone i will take a bigger bag
Wow your a natural, I would argue, given your surface structures and eye accessing cues…brilliant setup thanks for tips I’m super excited about that camera and all the things in your trick or treat camera bag
Thanks for sharing your camera bag essentials for 2023! It's fascinating to see how gear evolves over time. Your setup has given me some great ideas for my own kit. Keep up the awesome content! 📸
I’m a food blogger and typically carry my a7iii (if money grew on trees, I’d go with the a7iv just for the flippy screen), Samyang 18mm f2.8, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8, Falconeyes F7 mini in my PD Sling 6L v2! Again, if money were no object, would love to try a Ricoh GR IIIx as a EDC camera (saving me from having to bring the PD Sling everywhere)
Try the RX100! It's not an APSC sensor like the GR, but the autofocus is much better and it's overall smaller with image quality that's just as good if not better.
I also use the Peak Design 20L Everyday Backpack. I have looked at other bags over the years, but i have the PD set up perfectly for myself and I am used to it when traveling and changing lenses. I know exactly how much I can actually bring and where to put everything for this bag so at this point I'm just reluctant to have to adjust to a new bag. I also have a Sony A7RV and when I travel, I usually bring the Sony 24-105 f/4, Sony 35mm f/1.4 and a Tamron 17-28 f/2.8. Sometimes I will bring a Tamron 70-180 f/2.8. I also will travel. with the PD aluminum tripod as its pretty compact.
My EDC is Sony A7R IV + Sony 50mm f1.8 and Sony 28-70 F3.5-5.6 which I want to switch out for Tamron 28-75 f2.8. Also, I would like to have a 85mm 1.4 soon. I mostly do portrait.
I wish i could try those gear in real life. For the past 3 years I've been shooting just a kit lens and I become tired of the things that are on my mind but i could not do it in real world. I think gear really matters if you want to grow in photography, i wish i could by one lens someday. I'm inspired!
At least in Australia, there are a ton of opportunities to try out new gear, whether that be by through Sony events directly, or Retail events etc. You should try reach out!
I use the think tank retrospective bag for my everyday carry. It expands and collapses a ton which is nice since I keep everything in pouches and change out my load out frequently. If I'm just shooting solo I try to travel as light as possible, (One cam, three lenses, drone, mic set) but when I need to support my team I end up being weighted down with backups of everything and tools to solve every problem that can arise on set. (on a big day the difference can be 20 lb from my minimal kit) I have an old super cheap camera bag in the back of my car where I keep all my extra tool pouches for when I need to up my loadout. The expansion is also handy because frequently I'll need to carry stuff for talent, or pick up stuff from other shooters while mid shoot. If I need to hike I have an old circa 2015 20L manfroto bag I'll my my EDC pouches over to for the easier mobility, but I prefer the shoulder bag for most days because it's easier to drop and let the other shooters I'm supporting find what they need in a hurry.
I used the 20L everyday carry for years as well, but its actually 20L when the top lid is high. when it's flush and sleek its closer to 15L. I still have it, and use it for commute/everyday carry, but when its FULL, it has no give since its fairly rigid in its fabric design. for actual travel/photog stuff I use the Shimoda Explore v2 25L and while the side access isn't nearly as comprehensive, I dont carry 3 cameras around XD FWIW the explore V2 is the most comfortable backpack I've ever used in my life, not that I'm a backpack expert
Got me with the mini fan😅. I too carry one with me. Heat’s never gonna come down here in the tropics. Now that’s an honest video showing that you’re just human as everyone else is even with all the gears and stuff you carry #Ja”Fan”
I have the same bag, it’s good looking but it’s hard to pack with only side opening and not very flexible to configure. I found the 16L Zip actually packs the same gears and it’s easier to pack and can use for other purpose better than the 20L. You have the latest Sony gears, cant see any Sony user not happy with the same set. Don’t like PD strap, it slips. The best strap to me is Vi Vante Matador Noir with PD anchor. Most of the time, PD 5L sling is what I carry with one camera like Sony A7C, Leica Q2 or occasional Sony A7R V. It can fit my Hasselblad 907X 50C with small lens in it. Don’t like switch lens going out so, bring 16L Zip when I take two cameras or larger lens. Also use Oberwerth, Burlington and Vi Vante cross body bags. Camera insert is also a great way to convert regular bag and carry on luggage, I have a few cheap inserts bought on Amazon and a couple extremely strong from Holdfast. Luis Vuitton makes a few cross body camera bags, not well padded, adding an insert, they are perfectly functional and stylish.
Wait. Your EDC is a A7R5 and ZV-E1 or A1? With large zooms? I couldn’t imagine carrying that much around. The cost and size/ weight is major dedication
Nice video! I just started photography just recently but I have found your videos very useful and inspires me to be better everyday! I use the PD everyday sling 6L v2 and I have the Sony A7IV with the 85mm f1.4 GM and just got the 35mm 1.4 GM recently. I also use the PD cuff and PD slide lite. I might buy the PD everyday backpack in the near future for travel. Can’t wait to watch more videos from you!
Ulenzi I think it pronounced that way or close they travel tripod is taller, weighs the same or less than yours, footprint is less, it does more and is 1/2 the price so if you need a 2nd or 3rd travel tripod I would consider that one. The A1 I also have and I’m not happy with Sony for reasons you gave. I am done with Sony flagship cameras since none of the other big players and non big players do that. A1 was not cheap, of course you know. 35mm GM yeah that is lovely lens I often carry mine. 135mm 1.8 GM, have tried yet? My goodness the depth of field is 2nd to nothing I have ever tried. 70-200 (II) GM DOF does not compare to 135mm GM. Looking fwd to the new 85mm GM, it is time wouldn’t you say? Nice review, I like what you have in your bag.
Check out the Gura Gear Kiboko City pack. It’s not quite as stylish but it’s lighter and my goodness it’s so comfortable. The inside is really good for holding camera gear too.
Great video. It irks me that I have the Sony A1 and it is already out of date! Shame on Sony for abandoning its flagship camera owners. I use the Boundary Supply Errant Pro for my EDC carry. I’m surprised I haven’t heard much about this bag. I have it set up with shelves similar to the PD, but I find it gives me a bit more versatility. Love your videos! Thank you for sharing. :)
Hi Pat! Could you create a video talking about the transtion from primes to this 24-70mm? I saw your 24-70mm video, but it would be really interesting to hear some more thought around this. I'm shooting with the 24-70mm myself, but I've started looking into buying some primes and making the transition. What's your reccomendation? To buy or not to? Would be amazing to have a video like this from you. You you're good! Keep up the great work! - Olav
I am using the Compagnon Element Bag which has been amazing on all my travels. Can highly recommend it. I mainly use the Q2 and an M10R with a 50 1.4 , Canon R5 with the 50 and 70-200 for AF, and some film bodies
I'm curious, why don't you carry a laptop or at least a tablet? For business and for on-the-go editing. Great video as always! I have the same backpack but the 30L I believe. Peak design products look great and they last a lifetime.
I used the Peak Design 20L when it first came out and the back part has kind of disintegrated. Right now I have 2 bags, one from Gitzo for everyday carry and the Nomatic Peter McKinnon 35L when I need to take a lot of gear with me
is that a soft release shutter button on your A7RV? wanna know if it affects photos since I've heard some people have a bad time with it, want one though personally!
This was an awesome video. As someone who backs a bag with me everywhere often carrying way too much, I very much liked hearing your thought process and intentionality. I do have one question. If you could only pack your RX100 VII or your RX1R II (and not both), which would you choose?
Dude... the a1 is absolutely not outdated😂 looking at your website and instagram work, you could probably be fine with the technology and autofocus of the a7iii. Otherwise, great video and I enjoyed it very much😂
I used to use the PD Everyday 20L as well but switched to the Shimoda Designs Explore V2 - which is in my opinion is SO much better and more comfortable than the PD! Haven’t used the PD since…
Yup, same with me, design and durability from PD is awesome but comfort is a big no, when you put many gear the strap will digging on to the shoulder. And i move to shimoda x50 and explore v2 30 and never used my PD anymore because the comfort aspect. But still for accessories PD still on top
Someone explain how this man has soft shutter buttons on his Sony cameras, I didn't think that was possible with Sony cameras. I would like one very much haha.
I'm relatively new to photography but I see you use SD cards instead of micro SD. A quick search and most sources say there's not much of a difference in speed and reliability, only that with an extra form of connection via the adapter - there also an extra point of potential failure. It's also said it's best to use native format which is the SD card. Any insight? Should I swap to SD?
It is difficult to get the fastest cards as microSD. I've seen some fast ones, but they've stopped making them in general. I'm talking about the v90+ ones. The common microSds are all v30.
Wth the Sony A1 only been out for 2 years and it already feel outdated? I was playing with my friend Canon R6 and R6m2 along with th R5 and those cameras have have 3-4 years gap between them yet they feel pretty close to each other. Sad to hear A1 is not keeping up too well.
Wait... so you introduced the 70-200mm GM II first with "super light and super sharp" then within a few seconds you tell us that it is "quite big and quite heavy"... 🤣
If you want sir Kay i can have that A1 Sony huhuuhu, i only have a Canon 700d which somewhat good like i do it manually shooting wedding and ya. So probably the sony a1 fits for me😂😂
Absolutely not. I literally spent half the video talking about how important content is and that people also get value out of stuff like this as much as I get value out of doing my own things. I appreciate that different people have different interpretations of the same message, but I'm definitely congruent with what I mentioned.
@@patkay well ok. I misunderstood then. Personally I think your non conforming content focused on your own craft is the best. These what's in my bag videos are the worst. Like you said, just content.
