We talk about what I bring with me to run Dungeons and Dragons! Everything I use fits inside the DnD Start Box besides my marker board! What do you roll with?

You pulling up every sheet of paper, explaining it, and then saying 'but I don't want to talk about that' got funnier and funnier as the video went on.

Really cool game system, seems super easy to just pick up and play, but I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about how giving players a new ability after each session gets them acquainted with their abilities so much more smoothly than the typical 5e levelup system, but I don't want to talk about that because I really want to talk about how the spell system you made (having spells "locked" behind scrolls or offerings) is super evocative for low-magic worldbuilding and feels a lot more like what magic is like in folk tales. But I don't want to talk about that. I actually want to talk about how this channel has been a really cool source of inspiration. I feel a lot more confident in my dungeon design process now. Thank you for that, looking forward to seeing more :)

This video was fun to watch. I use chess pieces in my games also. I took the checkers I got with the chess set and marked each to make them unique. A cheap tumble tower is also in my DM bag for when I need to make a layout quickly. I use the chess boards for my grid.

I am putting together a kit for my own games, and this is an amazing way to not only simplify the kit, but make gameplay easier for new folks. I've been watching your guides on maps, events, and characters as well. Thanks for the inspiration.

Awesome video! Seeing this all together gives me some perspective on how much stuff you actually need to run a game. Or at least how much I want!
@mapcrow
@mapcrow 2 года назад
Depending on the game, you may need more or less. If you are running it in your own home, minis and maps are easier to use.

Some real good stuff in there. I really like DM screens because they let me fit more crap on the table without taking up a whole lot of space since they're vertical. I keep PC stats clipped to it for easy reference.

Have you considered dropping to A5/whatever Americans call half the size of a standard sheet of paper? You'd need a folding board and screen, but imagine all the neat little cute booklets.

I’m not sure what what you are suggesting. Which item are you suggesting I change the size of?
@m__y-t-s

@@mapcrow The box and all the paper. I just find the smaller size way more convenient and the pages much cuter. You seem to have everything well in hand, though!

Great kit! I have been trying to go super super minimal recently. If I need tables of names and stuff, I stick them on a tablet in my google drive to keep them all in one place. Then just index cards, a few tokens, dice, and NO RULES BOOKS if possible. Oh and no DM Screen haha. I follow the Runehammer method now and keep everything possible open and honest.

I've been working on my own grab and go DM kit, and while I'm going about it at a different angle then you did (I'm going for something I can pick up and use for the rest of my life that contains everything for a basic but fun D&D game with only the contents of the box and maybe an iPad I was going to bring with me anyway) but I still learned a useful technique for future campaigns. While I'm still likely going to make my own maps for things, a simple DM map that is just a grid of boxes with location descriptions and secrets laid out in a roughly geographical way... that would be so much nicer for me then having a duplicate player map but with all the secrets labelled and me needing to hunt through my notes to remind myself whats what.

I've used Fisher Price style peg people. You can buy blank wooden ones in bulk fairly cheap online. Then players can easily remember which color is their character. They are only slightly larger than chess pieces and a lot of fun.

I rarely ever comment, but after watching probably 20 of your videos, I really felt the urge to message you. I'm currently deployed away from my family and it can get kind of lonely. When I watch you videos I feel like I'm listening to an old friend sharing his passions and for just a moment I feel like I'm home again. I really appreciate the hard work you set aside out of your busy schedule to share your stories, art, and life with us. Somethings are more powerful than you think.

I'm impressed that you basically turned 5E into a rules-light game that you just tossed onto Google and are like "PEOPLE, GO PLAY SOME GAMES!" But I don't wanna talk about that… 😁 The idea of people shouting "NATURAL 1!" and cheers around the table … seems unnatural to me. Although you apparently developed a game for Wil Wheaton to play on camera? But I don't wanna talk about that. The notion that you compressed D&D's rules into a single sheet of paper with a few more sheets for class, spells, etc. is impressive. But I don't wanna talk about that. You made a single sheet character sheet that is effectively simplified and large print. You could print this on transparencies or put it in a sheet protector and write on it with wet/dry erase markers. It also works for me, being legally blind. Overall, I'm impressed with what you've done.

For those of who missed the Kickstarter, is Old Roads ever going to be reprinted?
@mapcrow
@mapcrow 2 года назад
Not until I find a good print on demand solution. Moreover, Old Roads is nearly too many pages to be stapled, , but it can't be perfect bound because of the maps. In the meantime, printing pages from the PDF is actually the best way to use the maps, in my opinion.
