i loved the 'credit' section discussion of this ep!! As someone in their mid 30s with bad credit (i was in debt for a while and finally paid it all off this year!) i would LOVE for you guys to have a guest who is an expert on financial advice and financial planning for people in their 20s and 30s! i feel like we'd all love to hear you guys have a frank and helpful discussion about finances and give helpful info!

I’m in my thirties and my dad always told me about credit cards as “money you don’t have” but other than that I didn’t know ANYTHING else about credit cards. The credit card section was so helpful! I really wish schools (high schools especially) would teach us this “normal life stuff” rather than how to test well for college.
@ashtonclaire4593
@ashtonclaire4593 3 года назад
The one criticism I have (and have ever had of these wonderful ladies) is when they were talking about not spending money you don’t have, I wish they had acknowledged that being able to do that is an enormous privilege in this country. For a lot of people after mortgage/rent, utilities, and childcare are paid - things that HAVE to be paid - often times there is no money left for things like gas and groceries and those thing have to be placed on a credit card and pile up because there is no other choice and people gotta eat.

I think the answer to this then is to also make sure you don’t make decisions that force you to spend money you don’t have, like buy a house and/or have children and/or have a car. Doesn’t matter how much people think they should be entitled to these things, at the end of the day owning a house, car, and/or child is a privilege in our society because, as you mentioned, the money aspect.

omg maggie i completely relate to your mosquito bite allergy!!! I think I'm allergic too because i have a 75% percent chance that a mosquito bite will welt up and potentially get pus in it and turn into a boil and then scar up!! When i went to philippines when i was 17 i got DESTROYED by mosquitos and i got bites EVERYWEHRE even between my toes and my knuckles. all my bites got infected and had to be 'popped' and hten they scarred for years and it was my secret shame for so long. It took a lot of applications of scar ointment for them to fade. I. HATE. MOSQUITOS!!!!!

In my country most people do not even have a credit card. Debit cards are the norm here. I also find credit scores such a weird thing. I only have a credit card for going abroad and using it to rent a car for example or for online purchases from other countries. I find it so weird to pay something with money you do not have. While on the debit card there is the money that you do have.
@adelm7182
@adelm7182 3 года назад
same here, it still is "spending money you don't actually have", maybe it is a capitalist thing, I am pretty greatful to live in a socialist country where if you can't afford to live state aids you, not gives you a debt you can't get yourself out of..
@sandyruitenberg2928
@sandyruitenberg2928 3 года назад
@@adelm7182 yeah that is much better! I would describe my country as liberal not socialist, but still we also get aid from the government when we need it. Just as parental leave, which the government will pay your employer. I als just found out that in th US you need to be responsible yourself to save up for your retirement and a lot of people are not able to. I am so happy that they already deduct it from my income before I get it. So I know I will be able to get a monthly payment when I do retire. I don't get the I want freedom in everything, somethings are just better to have automatically arranged to make sure that everyone will be able to retire and that you know that if something happens the government will support you (for example when you are injured and cannot work anymore).

Becky on finance is so right- my dad made me an authorized user on one of his rarely used credit cards, and because he has an 850 credit score by the time I was twenty I had a credit score of 812. If you never ever charge more than you can pay it is an amazing way to earn credit. But even if you don't have a parent with a credit score that can give you help, opening a card at 18 is great even if you only charge gas- just never over charge anything. Also a great card is the apple credit card- I believe you get 3% back if you use apple pay, it has no late and foreign transaction fees and the privacy is higher than almost any other company. It is my personal favorite

The way to play credit utilization: Keep the balance on the card long enough for the statement to cycle. Wait a couple days after the statement has cycled, then pay the entire balance on or before the due date. Each card is going to have a different statement cycle date. Even 1 individual card can have different cycle dates for each month. Keep on top of that detail closely. Becky is correct, 30% or lower is the sweet spot. Honestly, try to aim below 10% to see more of an impact.

I have to put in 2 cents on the pocket pens! My Opa used to always have a pen in his pocket and my fondest memories growing up always involved asking him for his pen so I could doodle on the to-go boxes or napkins. Or reaching and grabbing his pen and his itinerary out of his pocket and writing down my name for every meal he was in town for. Just hearing you ladies talk about pocket pens gave me a wash of emotions this morning thinking about him. When he passed and my mom and sister received his possessions from the nurse they put aside his pen for me much to the nurse's confusion on why they both started crying over a pen. His pen is one of my most treasured items left from him.

Please do a finance episode!! I'm only 17 but i would rather start now than later. My parents have scared me about debt and I rather be responsible especially with college coming up.

"Liberté égalité FRATERNITÉ" is the phrase from the French revolution. "Fraternité" means "brotherhood", not freedom (that would be "liberté"). So the tote bag that Ariel mentioned changes brotherhood for maternity. I felt it needed to be said. Love the pod, girls 😘

If you ladies would like to bring a financial expert guest and/or have a whole ep dedicated to finance, budgeting, investing, etc. That would be AWESOME. Thank you for the Credit Corner today ❤

Small correction for those soaking in the credit/finance info-Maggie and Ariel were 100 on point with the multiple hard inquiries in a certain time frame. However, when Becky mentioned there’s two type of credit scores that wasn’t right. There are three main “credit bureaus” (equifax, experian, and transunion) they all may give you a different score but there’s usually only small variation between the three. When you’re checking out your score you should look at all three because sometimes there may be some items reported at one bureau but not the others. Also-totally disagree to start with a “store card” the interest is usually pretty high and the points are only for that place. Whereas there are some “starter” cards through big banks like chase slate that are made to help build credit. Or find one with a very low limit to build responsibility. And just for context my husband is a CFA and has helped me to rebuild my credit from my mistakes and unsecured debt. Cheers

Also-if you’re a big traveler and already have good credit-chase sapphire reserve is by far the best overall card✈️✈️✈️

Love the financial talk. I’m a college student and there’s plenty of student cards you can apply for that turns into the regular non student card when you graduate. It’s nice to build up your credit score while in college. Just make sure to put down you have an income of some sort (campus jobs are great!!!) so you qualify for it. Based on my experience and my friends’ Discover student cards are easier to qualify for and have great perks. Meanwhile Chase student cards are a bit more hard to qualify for and don’t exactly give you a reason why you don’t qualify for the card.

I was an authorized user on my dad's credit card too in high school for gas. So when I got my own credit card I got a great credit limit. BoA also just randomly moves up your credit limit when you have a certain credit score. (But I always pay it off every month)

I work at one of the 3 credit bureaus, Experian, and love that the importance of establishing, building and maintaining good credit was brought up during the call. Financial literacy at an early age is important!

Editing because this comment is a lot harsher than I’d like it to be. I do enjoy Ned’s financial tidbits, they’re entertaining, this conversation was just more relevant and helpful to me “Neds financial corner” on the try pod can eat shit after this episode because this was so much more informative than he’s ever shared …

I love Ned's financial corner! But he explains it like we already know what he's talking about haha! He's just too smart for all of us. The girls know how to bring it down to beginners.

@@movi3srock that and he talks more about stocks and stuff which is very out of my reach. I feel bad about how i initially worded my comment, i was just honestly shocked at how enlightening their conversation was to me.
