Hello again my modeling friends! First let me apologize for the length of this video. I rarely make videos this long because I know they can get a bit tedious. I was very excited about this new release from Tamiya and it probably shows! This is about as thorough as I can make a review and I hope you are able to enjoy it and learn enough to make an educated purchasing decision.
Here is the breakdown of time codes for various sections of the review.
Accessories for the kit: 2:16
Instructions: 5:28
Paint and Marking guide: 11:39
A look at plastic sprues: 12:45
Included kit tracks: 22:38
Conclusion: 23:16
I purchased this kit here: www.ebay.com/itm/Tamiya-35345-...

Excellent review. I wonder if some dragon fans may be tempted. I do wish tamiya would release more as you can't beat them for pain free builds

Armour Empire You are right Mark they seem to pace themselves. They have the occasional aircraft kit or armor kit and this year we had both. They just came out with a new 1/32 Mosquito.

Thank you very much for doing this review. I am very excited about this particular model kit. I want to make a Kurskish diorama using the Tamiya engine and mechanics figure set. It will be set behind the lines as this Panther is getting repaired. I watched a few of your videos and enjoyed them very much. Keep up the good work!

A really helpful video and review, thanks for sharing with the community. I have built some years ago the same Panther version from Dragon and I can say I was quite happy with that kit. What I believe is that Tamiya's kit will be more easy to built it, as the company's kits are almost always. I hope that they will issue the Ausf.A version as well and it will be very good if they include the zimmerit in it. After all, they must face a very serious competition from Dragon.

I knew you would make a video about tamiya's new Panther D (yay!) :D Now they still need to make completely new Panther G early and Late, but most of all Panther A, that thing is ancient and just tragic. I guess your Zvezda Panther will have to wait for it's turn for a looooong time lol! Thanks for an in-depth review man!

Great stuff Andy, not surprising from Tamyia. Although they go leaps and bounds in certain directions they seem to fall behind with their tracks. If we look at the assy of the MK1 (WW1) tracks. Snap together should eb the norm these days IMHO as many are doing it.

Switcher I agree with that Rick but Tamiya's business model seems to offer stuff like that as accessories more often than not.

Don't have a Panther in my stash, but after seeing your video I wanted one. Took your advice and ordered it and after-market goodies you have from Japan. It cost me $68 with shipping. Found the kit at a US site and they wanted $64 just for the kit.

I think it’s a lovely review. The one thing I would like to add, the real tank in the coloured book isn’t in Belgium it’s in the Netherlands. The tank is in Breda, after the war it was gifted by the 1 Polish Armoured Division.

That looks pretty impressive Andy I must say. I believe those tracks are nearly identical to what AFV Club workable are, which are great in my opinion. Everything except that muzzle break, wonder why they did that. I would say it's over all probably better than the D premium from Dragon, with the accessories.

Just got into modelling and have been looking at different channels to learn. Love your channel. Quick question, I have always been scared to buy from overseas sellers. Is it safe? How do you know you can trust a seller the first time you try them? How long does it normally take to receive items from overseas like this one? Just curious.
@TacticalJackalope
@TacticalJackalope 9 лет назад
***** Yes it is completely safe. Depends on the country of origin and what shipping option you choose but probably about 10-14 business days for most items from China or Japan. This kit has gone up recently in Asia because of its "newness" if you want one right now you can get it in the U.S. I recommend Scalehobbyist they are awesome lowest prices in the U.S. by far. Here is the link: www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Military_Vehicles/german-panzer-v-panther-ausf-d-sd-kfz-171/TAM00035345/product.php?pg=1&ppp=48&sb=stocknumber&so=a&pr=1&man=TAM

Very nice review ! The foto’s are not from a museum but from the sole surviving Panther -D standing in a park as a monument in my hometown Breda (Netherlands) so not Belgium. If you like to look this up , please do. It was a gift from the Polisch first tankbatalion under command of General Machek to the city Breda they themselfs liberated from the Germans. As a child I often played on this Panther and at that time you could climb in it ! Google : “Poolse tank , Breda” and see for yourself.

@TacticalJackalope
@TacticalJackalope 9 лет назад
Henrik Hansen Yes that was a slip on my part...although the D model did not have a bow machine gun so that crewman was just the radio operator. Thank you for watching.
@helly8800
@helly8800 9 лет назад
Hi there again... Thought so... ;-) Actually, the small rectangle "letterbox" port in front of the radio operator was so he could fire his MG34. In the later production of the Ausf. A it got the ball mount. The two ports on the glacis plate was knowen to be week spots on the tank...
@TacticalJackalope
@TacticalJackalope 9 лет назад
Henrik Hansen I have never seen this supported any where before. Nor have I seen a photograph to support it and there are Many photographs of Panther's in action. Knowing a bit about firearms this would not be possible. The MG would require a proper pintle mount because the amount of recoil from firing the weapon would preclude such a method. It is perhaps possible to shoot a submachine gun this way and this person could have been equipped with an MP38/40. This was one of the first things identified as something to update on the A variant because a lack of a proper anti infantry gun mounted in a proper ball mount was extremely important especially on the Eastern front.
@helly8800
@helly8800 9 лет назад
I know there is very little material about it and it's hard to find. Most battle photos are taken from behind and the others are taken in resting situations. I found some in "Osprey New Vanguard - Panther Variants, 1943-45" ISBN: 9781855324763 and in Osprey Vanguard 21, in some picture text on page 4. It is also mention here: self.gutenberg.org/articles/panther_tank under the section "Armament". I do not agree in your assessment about that the MG needs a proper pintle. I have been shooting the MG42 on/off for 30 years now and it's not that hard to shoot it without a pintle. I know of the danger of the information on the internet, but here are some links to internet sites anbout the MG on Panther Ausf. D.: - wolfenkrieger.deviantart.com/art/Panther-Ausf-D-300637565 - www.onthewaymodels.com/articles/SBrez_Panther_compare.htm (The first description of the Dragon model) - www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7931&start=0 - img837.imageshack.us/img837/1412/p1030217p.jpg - It is also mentioned, on page 179 picture text, in the book "Images of Kursk, history's Greatest Tank battle - July 1943" by Nic Cornish, ISBN 1-57488-576-6 If I find any other materiel, I will send it to you... Sorry for the long text. Want to be thorough.
@helly8800
@helly8800 9 лет назад
TacticalJackalope A little on the side, if you are interested in the Panther tank, you should take a look at this: www.panther1944.de/index.php/de/sdkfz-171-pzkpfwg-panther/vorschriften-zum-panther/panther-fibel A little original booklet which were handed out to the crew members of a Panther tank. I know, it's in German, but it gives you a little insight of what the crew were doing and what type of equipment they were operating. By the way, do you by any chance have the Dragon kit number 6428, in your Dragon-wall? That kit includes a MG mount for a Panther Ausf. D.

Andy, did Tamiya again neglect to have plates for the sponsons? From what I can tell on your review, these are still missing, which is a concern if you wanted to model it with torn up or missing schurzen you would have to add the sponson coverings yourself.

Patrick Gallagher This will not be a problem on this kit. The fenders are applied as a separate part therefore there will not be a gap in between the fenders and the lower or upper hull.
