About the Japanese on the Lethargy: 気 = “ki” = spirit, emotion, energy, etc. 力 = “ryoku” = strength, ability So, 気力 = kiryoku = something like “vitality” 無 = “mu” = a negation modifier which serves as “none” or “without” or “less” Therefore, 無気力 is “mukiryoku.” Vitality-less. Lethargy! (Kanji can have a range of meanings and readings in Japanese, depending on the context.) My intermediate Japanese is only passable at its very best, so if a native speaker tells you different, listen to them! Also, Dreadbox is SO NEAT. I have some of their entry-level modular stuff.
The movie: Life in Livingston 12:06 - The introduction to Danny Chambers 15:32 - Danny's decision 34:20 - The Game Changer, Braxton Taylor 39:04 - Sweet Victory
The Speaker Cranker has been kinda speaking to me lately…sounded sweet on the Chamber Crank Jam…loved the textures. Before the Chamber Phase Freak the little bass run was a bit Scott Pilgrim-ie. Dug it. And the comedy is really my jam.
A dreadbox episode would be a great chance to collab with some other synth channels! Dreadbox makes/ is more known for their weird, insane, and very reasonably priced synths
When you started messing with that lethargy, I thought “what would I ever use this for” and as always, the moment the jam started, I went, “oh yeah, that, OF COURSE.” Very cool pedal!
I always enjoy the spontaneous nature of these shows - you manage to capture the feeling of an old-time live TV broadcast while discussing the minute details of such a niche topic (albeit a topic I love). It seems effortless but it's obvious you all put everything you've got into each episode. I always look forward to your videos and it's the way you all interact that makes them fun. Your channel is unique.
Current owner of all Dreadbox's pedals and I absolutely love them. You can dial in totally classic tones or turn your guitar into a full blown space synthesiser. I found them when they released the "Typhon" synth and have been in love ever since. Highly rate the pedals, so so versatile. Would definitely love to see a video on them
@@eweystewy That's great!!.I was worried the reverb trails on max decay weren't that longish.. I'm looking forward to the Raindrops too..Also the Treminator.😁
Leave the box flap as it was. Give Addison a fishing hat. When the camera first cuts to him, he needs to start with “Hi-de-ho neighbor.” Home Improvement? Anyone?
So, I watched the first 10-12 minutes of this then had to go do something, and I started watching again later, back to the middle of the Danny Chambers discussion and MAN was that incomprehensible when I didn't remember what set that up. A+
All joking aside, JHS does the best job of capturing the sound of a Marshall "in a box," with the Charlie Brown and the Angry Charlie. I own quite a collection Marshall inspired pedals and nobody beats JHS.
The play you describe in your jam time fantasy movie plot sounds physically impossible. And speaking of physically impossible, Austin, the non-Nick drummer, is quite the badass.
Everyone needs a person in their life who appreciates them as much as Addison appreciates literally every positive thing that happens in the whole world
My seven year old son who seems to hate everything I like… loves this show. If he sees the Whats In The Box thumbnail he will beg to watch it. Thank you! We don’t watch a lot of stuff, and especially adult stuff. Not to mention I love this show as well. So… thank you, again.
Death by Audio have made fantastic eurorack compatible desktop modular synths, and these pedals are really cool. I wish the inputs and outputs were on the teensy plugs too though. I want the pedal industry desperately to move to a more compact standard for signal cable and plugs. If you have a board with 20+ pedals and a switcher like myself and many friends, you're looking at a serious weight add just from cable alone.
70 years old with four days of Bourbon St gigs coming and hear I am watching this shit at 1:00am. I am truly sick with gear disease but this showmanship is another variant.
34:20 That's why I love this channel, after nearly two minutes of laughs over a fictional movie plot, you guys rock a Post Rock song I could repeat for days!
Just a fun tidbit: At 23:49, the view down on the box (He's got the box!) of the Lethargy shows the kanji "無気力". That translates to "mukiryoku", which literally means "lethargy".
The second pedal made me think about the Alesis ModFX pedal line from a decade or more ago. Very unusual effects so of course the line died a quick death. I have the SmashUp (compressor) and Ineko, which is a crazy little box packed with all kinds of effects that is a true toolbox of insanity.
I am so pissed right now. I bought a Speaker Cranker over a week ago, and Express Post has lost it, but won't look for it until tomorrow, when it will be ten days overdue. The jam was very Explosions in the Sky, in a good way...my favourite post-rock band.
29:10 Joshua, I appreciate the mechanical pencil shout-out. I had a Zebra M-402 (0.5 mm) in college. Best mechanical pencil I've ever used. Sadly it's been discontinued. Someone should make a clone. JHS Mechanical Pencils?
Y’all. I laughed hard during this episode. Good job. Also I seriously want a Speaker Cranker but don’t need a Speaker Cranker and this episode didn’t help
I’m sitting here with my wife watching what’s in the box 3 hours later after the initial taping. The question is what was your candy that you always would eat… My wife said Tootsie Roll. She knows more about you than I do! Ha ha and I watch you all the time.
Note that "discreet" and "discrete" are two homophones with different meanings. I'm guessing that the copy used "discrete", which can be thought of as "separate" or "distinct".
OMG best show ever!!! I was laughing out loud! The dry humor, the stingers, the making it up as we go... AND. The movie! can't say enough. I will copy and burn your songs and play them everywhere! (possible Indica buzz when watching), But whatever! keep them going!!!
Time to get sequencer on the table? Not just for the Dreadbox pedals, you can also do interesting things with something like an EHX Attack/Decay when sending external triggers to it.
I freaked out when I saw the Dreadbox box in the bigger box, cuz I have a Lethargy, got it about two weeks ago. I got maybe 35 pedals give or take and I didn't expect to have one Josh didn't have. Not gonna lie I partly bought it for looks but it is pretty cool to play with as well.
