That man has a lot of pride in his department, their equipment, and the area they serve. Volunteers are slowly a dying breed of men and women who just want to do whatever it takes to protect their communities. Happy New Year and awesome video!
I love when departments use the older vehicles for the reason of, It's more reliable. It's good to have that history and it shows how much people cared about vehicles back then for it to be better then today's vehicles.
Spent enough time in Corolla to know exactly where the beach part was filmed even before the lighthouse appeared. Last year I made it to actually see Carova Beach FD. Haven't seen their rigs in person. But have seen them on their Facebook page. Impressive when you realize it's all offroad for them. They have a good sized tanker and an aerial on a commercial chassis
I work on a fire engine that goes all over California. We have bug spray. We can end up anywhere and bug spray and cold weather sleeping bags are a necessity
These days the millennial generation firefighters have more money tied up in flashing lights ,sirens, computers,& fancy paint & letters than they do in actual firefighting equipment & training! Most of the newer millennial " firefighters " think drafting means blowing the foam off the head of their beer mug! They don't know much about drafting, water conservation or fire hydraulics! Friction loss is a mystery to them! Great to see an " old school" pumper still in service; one that doesn't need all the fancy bells & sirens to put out a fire!
My towns fire dept has something similar to this. We call ours a Scat. it's cool seeing the same type of truck being called different things around the country. Love these types of rigs. Great video :D
I used to be a firefighter,my dad, both my uncle's, I was at the same dept my uncle's were on. I've always had a love for firetrucks, partial to old school because it looks so good. There's a old La France at my former dept that is just a great example of a cool old school rig, it's a 80's model Century top mount with open rear jump seats, screaming demon Detroit, it's what made firetrucks cool, I remember riding in it when I was a kid and there was a bell on the front bumper that you pulled a rope in the cab to ring it, I used to love to play with that bell.
Mike: just a suggestion. When you introduce us to a truck or ambulance, TELL US WHO MADE IT! We dont want to hear its “a 1984 GMC”. You should say “this is a 1984 GMC/E-One midi pumper”. GMC doesn’t make fire trucks. Same thing with ambulances. If its a Braun, call it a Braun
That is an beast of a truck that can really move out. Amazing how at volunteer companies the utilize every thing for as long as possible. Wish people would understand when volunteer companies ask for money for new equipment that they are replacing stuff that is over due for replacement. Great show, great chief.
If I recall correctly Absecon NJ vfd won one of these rigs in some sort of promotional contest Emergency One was running in the mid-‘80s. It was later sold to Brigantine NJ FD and then was replaced by a BRAT. No idea where it is now. Okay, I found the original delivery pic when it went to Absecon. It was a 1981 GMC. No idea on how to post that pic.
Does it have a central tire inflation system or do you have to hop out and air down/up manually? I was surprised to not see some type of air compressor on the rig
At my old department, if the truck had air brakes,we would add a connection to the trucks air brake supply tank for an air hose with various connections to air up tires & other air operated tools.
If you're really interested in 4x4 emergency vehicles you need to get in touch with the Volunteer Fire Departments in Breezy Point NY. They are the Rockaway Point VFD, the Roxbury VFD and the Point Breeze VFD.
Hello, I am from Vietnam, I have an opinion about your following videos, can you add Vietnamese subtitles, because there are many Vietnamese people who watch these videos but they do not understand English. Can you add Vietnamese to the video? 🥰🥰😅😅🇻🇳
Love that you went down to Corolla (the Chief says it right, not you, gotta let you know that part). Truly the OBX is my happy place and the fire departments down there are an amazing group, they are seperate but operate as one. They face unique challanges, from the 4x4 beach of Carova (that is mentioned here) to the continious winds that made this the place the Wright Brothers chose. I've listened to them and I've heard some of the most unique but yet most organized fire attacks that I've ever heard.
I didn't see any type of Medical Tramabag O2 ressitaion gear. It that normal? What happens it your first due to a traffic collision? C-spine precautions, back boards, stokes baskets? Unless I missed something along the way. Granted this thing us a beast. The K I S S principle is alive and well.
It’s todays replacement cost with all the equipment. That’s how we come to these numbers. If it was to get destroyed what would it take to get a new replacement?
@@ryanwebb9099 spec a replacement to match what they have. I'm pretty confident that is a reasonable price in today's market. You sure aren't putting it on an F250 chassis.
@@brentjmichael that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying I can value my 2002 for $70k. Cuz that’s what a new one is. No I can’t. You can’t value this truck at $300k either.
@@ryanwebb9099 gonna have to disagree since I've been pricing various pieces of apparatus with different manufacturers over the last 4 months. Some guy was in comments saying class 3 pumper in California don't cost 300k. A quick Google search will find you'll spend at least 400k on a class 3 pumper.
What totally amazes me is that these guys obviously think it's okay to hrun Red emergency lights while everybody in the world knows that ONLY Blue is allowed on emergency vehicles. Fire impersonator....
