I used to be a FQA tester for Sony. Man that brings back memories. Mainly bad ones because using these is a pain with the fat cable sticking out the back you could never get comfortable.

Really miss these videos being a regular occurrence

looks like it uses an FPGA to control the lcd, buttons, and serial port. Audio doesn't seem to be generated on the device itself. Makes me more curious about the kinda kit inside the main unit.

I played with one of these briefly in 2010 as part of my prog course its surprisingly easy to work with when you have the full dev kit

I wonder if you can play music or videos through that like it's a small TV. Or maybe hook it to a PC like a USB controller and play PC games using it and the PSP screen shows a map of the gameplay area or player info.

That's so cool :D Thank you! Glad to see one taken apart There's different versions of the controller based on all major hardware versions of the PSP (even PSPgo!), along with some early ones out there saying "Commander" on it instead of "Controller" :P

That connector is a D-Terminal, they're common in Japan. Essentially, they function just like component video, you can even adapt the connector without needing to convert the signal. Sony being a Japanese company and all, it's not surprising that they would use it.

Interesting to see the kinds of equipment used for PSP game development. Shame about the cracked screen, but I imagine it would only really matter if you ever tracked down a dev kit to connect it to, and if that were the case, you'd probably be alright with picking up another controller for it.

So, just got one of these units (Testing Tool), and it looks like the USB cable is for relaying the USB connection onto the controller from the tower unit. This way you can plug in a USB cable onto the controller unit like a regular PSP. :D

Is there a CARD READER on the left side of the front below the D-Pad 3:19 ?? It seems to have no opening to insert cards like the regular PSP... I also see the Memorystick "M" on the front above the WI-FI indicator... Thats an intresting piece of Hardware...

Not surprised the screen was broken. Unless im mistaken it looks like the metal bracket the cable retention locks into is screwed to the back of the LCD? Means any pulls on the cable are translated right into the LCD.

It looks like a shop kiosk psp games will just be sample games or be put on it by a computer just so it can be put in shops for people to play the psp but I could be wrong

I found one of the computers this is used with on Ebay but it didn't have one of these with it

It’s been a long time for your awesome videos, don’t you have a Mega SG or something you can show us? As you love Megadrives I bet you have one and will test it and maybe find a bug or 2! I am very much enjoying mine, it runs the Overdrive 2 demo just fine but I noticed in the scene where the border breaks, when the border comes back it appears with white explosion stars on it on my real Mega Drive for a split second, Mega SG they don’t appear oh and the border isn’t big enough so maybe that’s it. Overdrive 2 breaks the Mega Drive X clone’s sound but the graphics run almost perfectly on that lightweight cheaply made thing 😀😀😀

Quite interesting I was playing my PSP 1001 last night of course it has custom firmware on it pro B10 for emulation purposes LOL so I quite fancy the PSP when I saw this video I was interested in the internals but this is definitely its own device all together🍻👍👍

My gba sp wont light up, i have the 001 with the brightness switch but the switch wont work, how can i fix that, or what might be the problem?. I have to use it outside or with a flash light pointing at it now
