You are so sweet ♥️ I’m 30! Doing my GCSEs for one year! Then I will be doing A-levels for two years! Then University for four years! I can realise that it’s a long journey and challenging, but that’s okay and I don’t care about being 30 or 60 or 18 I enjoy it and I’m gonna smash it and win Noble Prize✨ Good luck for all mature students in the world! Remember it will happen. Thank you the emotional video Claire😢

@@shazedakhanom2281 it's going well, if I'm honest it took some getting used to, learning how to write essays again and managing my time with 2 children, but I'm coping!! I'm enjoying it more now I'm doing more medical based things, to begin with it was a lot of things to get you used to researching and writing. Good luck 🤞 x

Hi Claire, love your inspiration and determination according to live your life! I'm 5 years younger than you. I'm also a mature student with disability and mental health. Who has worked his way up from college over the past 14 years while in school ; after leaving special educational needs school. For me it's worth the plenge through education perspectives! I've just successfully completed and achived top grades on my Access course in Health and Social Care. I'm going to study Bsc Psychology mental health with a placement year at Uni this Septmeber ;work up to higher level standard to become a clinical psychologist. At my school, we only did entry level based qualifications due to our cognitive abilities for thriving mainstream curicculum. I've passed everything from school, but just did 2 GCSEs in Maths and ICT but recieved a grade Gs and failed. Even though, after leaving school till now I've always worked my way up and passed every year. I have passed GCSE Maths back in 2019 on a different course, just waiting for GCSE English result next month. My next plan is to study GCSE Biology alongside my degree to have at least a science. I already have a diploma in Health and Social care at L2+ GCSE Maths. Once having English and Biology will showcase 5 GCSEs. I'm proud of all the work I've put in since! I'm not ashamed to express my biographical views this on social media platform here. We all have learning and developmental curves in our life that can either be succeeding or turning points! I'm delighted to hear your success, you've made my heart feel accomplished and spirated to achieve something in life...

@@ClaireCarmichael Your welcome Claire! Everything is going wel, according to my life. I love care work. I hold vast amount experience, but doing it in a nursing environment isn't suitable in terms of my health due to anexity. My Aunty is a senior nurse and she loves her experience, it's all down to how well you can cope in a busy and demnading evironment. I strongly value and respect the actual degree, as it is deemed as golden and rewarding. Just keep on thriving, thrillingly. Thank you once again for your praise, everything has paid off in a long run. My strength and determination had succeeded me with the career I wished to embark onto today. I could either study psychology mental health and become a clinical psychologist or study law and become a lawyer. I much prefer centre and office based jobs due to my needs and illnesses. I'm still inspired with your hardwork; it galvinzes everyone to become something they'd wished to achieve one day in life... xx

@@ClaireCarmichael Both courses are very populer which most students gravitate towards, as well as nursing. It all comes down to the person's personal interest. Nursing is prodeminantly populer, most students have undertaken the Access course and are now ready to go to University. One or two of them are doing midwifery. I was to become a social worker but due to mental health. I'm not able to drive. I ended up thinking for an alternative career which supports with helping people. Your 💯 correct human development is paramount before anything else. ❤️

I'm 55 and planning on going back to College for a full-time 2 year diploma program. I have been chatting with a number of friends and they all say "Go for it!" I'm completely on my own too and have been so for over 13 years. Money will be tight, but I can't continue struggling to find decent work and working retail. I live in a manufactured home (owned) on rented land, but I'm debt-free and have some dividends that can cover some expenses and a part-time retail position that will cover the rest. Really frugal living helps (been doing that forever it seems), and I will be paying for tuition and expenses from my savings. Nursing!! Wow! Good for you! My study will be office administration - health services. I have my administration executive diploma but it's old - 21 years and need a serious update of programs, etc. Tons of positions out there for health-related office work. Thanks for your words, they help!!

Firstly I am starting as a mature student I’m 34! At first I did think I was too old to start uni, but after listening to you, I am now feeling very confident! Secondly, I don’t really know what to expect when it comes to placements and the hours, shifts etc. I have 2 children, and I really don’t know what hours I will have to do in placements which is slightly scaring me! xx

saheda rahman Aww amazing! Well done for taking the plunge! I honestly loved every second of my three years. It’s been fantastic. Hours on placement depends on where you’re working. Wards tend to be 3 x long days a week. So 7am - 7.30pm or 8am - 8.30pm that sort of time. Where as if you’re in the community / GP it might be 9am - 5pm although I’m doing 8.30am - 6.30pm Monday, weds and Fridays. Then 1-6.30pm tues and thurs 🥰 which is nice. Xx

Vivien Petre Oh no! That’s a shame. We have a lot of mature students in our year. I wonder if it’s because they cut the bursary maybe? So more younger people are applying rather than older 🤔 I hope you can manage to make some friends at least 🥰 not everyone is immature. Even the younger ones on our course are mature and lovely xx

What makes me sad that my husband does not encourage me.on the contrary he always criticizes me although I am good at my course and although English is not my first language.I am Syrian refugee who live in the UK.I graduated from university in Syria in 2012 and sometimes I feel so upset for returning to studying from the beginning with all these challenges.Sometimes I think if studying really worth it or it just waste of my time because you can imagine how hard to keep studying and focusing and how hard finding some time to read for me.I am too depressed and distracted.I do not know what to do.I want to be a pharmacist but sometimes I feel I am not going to get a good job.......and feel nervous.sorry for talking too much.I can not find anybody to talk with.

Fab video, you're so motivating! I'm 29 and start in September, I can't wait! I just wanted to add a little note about finances as a mature student because I hit a little wall recently with childcare. At all the open days I went to for uni they always reassured me I would be able to get a childcare grant for my now 16month old. What they don't tell you is that there are cut off brackets for the funding. So 1 child your household income has to be below 19k and I think it's 26k for more than 1 child. Now me and my husband need to find £800 per month for childcare which we can just about do. It'll be worth it in the long run but oh my university is expensive! I think I'm most worried about making friends and fitting in, I feel old and have a little one I just hope I have something in common with someone lol X

I only get £7500 on loan from a very very low income family so I am not sure its that much better. No grants or anything so like you say it is like we are paying ourselves to work because loans are repayable. Its hard but I am going in September and I'm going to have to find extra money through work, so I think I will be trying to use annual leave the same to fund. It's going to be tough but it's a testament to how much I want to get this degree! I feel the same about being out of education for a long time, not been in education for 5 years and never done anything health related. So I am worried but I am going to put in the work. I’d love to go back to school and have been increasingly thinking about healthcare. I feel like my brain is not big enough to remember all of the information I would need to remember. At school I studied hard just to pass. I also struggled my way through college, a course I had changed my mind about half way through. I only finished because I was told I would never finish my degree. Now I’m 38 and I want to do a job that means something. Now I’m raising a 4 year old and I wonder if family life will suffer if I do this. I’m so torn. I wonder if being a health care assistant might be a way to step into the field and perhaps reassess later. I never did sciences at secondary school either.

Lucy W take some time out and relax before you get stuck in! Haha. It’s so intense at times you’ll need this :) but if you really want to do something, just look at the body systems and how they work. Types of organs and what they do. That will give you a good start 💙 also google drug calculations for nurses and do some practice tests 😬 that will help when the time comes too haha. But honestly. Don’t stress. I did nothing before starting and did alright :) x

Hi Claire, I have been following your vlogs and vids this past few days and have found them extremely comforting and helpful with my own progressions with study etc. I have previously studied but have decided at 33 years old that I want to be a nurse and genuinely always have for a number of different reasons. Keep up the hard work I think with your past experiences and where you are today you are amazing and will make an amazing nurse . I do have a partner and depending on which Uni I am accepted to we will be moving locally, we may also not have to move if Chester Uni accepts my application. May I ask you why you dont live with your partner or is it financially more beneficial for you to house share etc ? I am just trying to way up my options if I live separate to my partner would it help me financially , he earns just under 25,000 PA so I am aware that I will be entitled to financial help again this time round but if I move and he has to stay local to where we are now with work etc would it benefit me more financially/would I be entitled to more? This may be something you cant help on but I have searched the Uni websites and government funding website and have found little or no response if living alone would benefit me more to get me through my studies financially. Best wishes , Kate x x

@ClaireCarmichael 5 лет назад
katie wright morning! Thank you for your message 🥰 I hope you’re having a great weekend so far. Take a look at this website www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator it should work out your finances etc :) and what you’re entitled to. You have to also balance, if you move out, you’ll have rent etc to pay on your own and would that cost more than living with your partner? Weigh up all the options. I lived with my ex previously and we broke up during second year so that’s why I’m now in my shared house :) which you get your good and bad parts from. I love them all (who I live with) but people do tend to steal your food etc 😂 luckily we all get along and we can put things into our WhatsApp group. Also, if you’re not married that might help too? Sometimes they only take into consideration if you’re actually married rather than living together? :) you can always give student finance a call and see what they say? If you have children you can claim up to 80% childcare as well but again, they use your partners income for this! Which is really annoying 😭 xx
