I love watching your vids, thanks for being so chilled out and candid. So for my (belated) question please may I ask you, how reliable is the internet there - do you have a fast connection? Also what about electricity/other fuel and water supplies? Is the whole island generally well catered for? Thanks a bunch, Tanya.
It's really refreshing to hear your story cause I'm currently in my early 20s and in that weird job hopping space, working out what I'm doing with my life. Thanks for your authenticity! Out of curiosity, what made you decide to start doing proofreading/copywriting as your business?
Your 20s are honestly the weirdest time ever. You’ve got no clue who you are working what to do and you change so much 😂 It was a bit of a snap decision to do what I do now tbh. I had a job offered to me, was ready to start and had left my previous job but they pulled my offer the day before I was due to start. I had no backup plan so thought about what I love to do and reading was the first thing I thought of that seemed like it could make me a living. I googled jobs in publishing and found proofreading and copy editing could be done very easily remotely, so I signed up for a course and the rest is history! I love my work and it’s amazing to work from home but it was a bit of a shot in the dark that thankfully worked out well 😂
Minimum wage is not that bad, when you factor in that you can get universal credit to top up your income. Keep to 16 hours a week, you get your rent and council tax paid, plus a top up for your essential living expenses. Get an allotment, forage, grow and make your own, pick up free stuff, food bank, buy and sell on FB marketplace. Life is your own.
Hi there. I work in NHS Scotland and planning to move there. I have a flat in Glasgow which is 125K. Do you think if this is a nice idea when it comes to getting enough money to survive there with my wife? I am fed up with crowded cities. I’m 45 yrs old and needs quiet and remote place to live.
Dear Liv.. I really enjoy watching your videos... I wanted to know if the population of Skye is predominantly caucasian ? Do you have people from other nationalities living there? Wishing you a very successful 2022 .much love from India
Hi Padmini, Yes Skye is predominantly Caucasian. We have a mix of nationalities living here mostly from around Europe, as well as a large population of English people. There’s a few Indian families as well but the population of people living here is pretty small, and then in the summer months it triples or quadruples with tourists from all over the world. And thank you so much! I hope you have a great year and thank you for watching my videos ☺️🖤
The living conditions on Skye are about the same across the American West. Service job wages can’t support home ownership or single rental. It’s bad all over. Population is not home owner oriented anymore. Too pricey. Caravans are good. Can we get a tour?
That’s so interesting! Funny how you can be thousands of miles away and it’s still the same bad situation. I actually filmed a tour of my caravan about a year ago before we moved out. Here you go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HaCQeLErcxY.html ☺️
I ended up going with Proofreading and Copy Editing with the College of Media and Publishing. It was a well reviewed course and didn’t take too long which suited me perfectly. Plus the qualification you get is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading so you can become a member once you graduate and get some pretty good benefits and access to resources and further training. It definitely taught me a lot and I use most of what I learnt on a daily basis now so well worth the money!
This is a great question! I’ll probably make a whole video on it or at least include it in my Q&A because it’s a little different to a city that’s for sure 😂
