The numbers have dropped but are now reasonably 'steady' so those that remain should grow on ok. Let's take a look as I water them.

On a humid, wet day, if I hold off on watering my plants which aren’t exposed to the rain, I see a spurt in growth especially the roots. It’s visible growth. I guess it is true what u said about holding the feed.

It seems there might be some confusion regarding the name "Oncidiums Emeris Jones." The search results do not provide specific information about a hybrid or species by this exact name. However, there is a possibility of a mix-up with the name "Oncidium jonesianum," which is a known species.

I haven't heard of withholding fertilizer to promote root growth, but I have heard of reducing water in general (which would reduce fertilizer as well). For the same reason: stressing the plant to grow more roots to find necessary resources to thrive instead of survive. 💖🌞🌵😷

As a newbie in orchids , I believe i save my oncidium (unwilling)in that way , now that you mention that . Got an Shrry Baby , all nice , beautiful . After 1 week start to have white bugs on it ( mites I think ) and I decide to have a closer look . My big surprise was not a single root in the pot , all rotted or eaten . I stake it to a bed of random moss with few bits of bark from Amazon , and spray the media almost daily with plain water . In couples of weeks I had many roots starting to emerge . Now I’ve got 2 beautiful orchids from 1 ,each with 2-3 new growths

Interesting idea about not feeding to try and get roots to grow. I do have one with few roots but a little afraid to try this! Maybe I should try just feeding less often.
