I bought Cymbidium Golden Elf at a show in January. After looking it up, I discovered that it is a warm grower and does not require a temperature drop in the fall and should bloom in summer/ fall. Much to my pleasant surprise, the leaves are slightly variegated along the edge. It has put out many new shoots. Looking forward to seeing what it does. At least it is not a giant!

Most are cooler growers especially those hybrids based on the Chinese species.

I love your cymbidiums. They do produce stunning flowers. I need to do my ‘research’ and find a ‘warmer’ grower. I will need to add a cymbidium to my very small collection…😊

This is one of my favorite orchid varieties. I have 4 miniature hybrids. I have had then for 3 years and they are just beginning to be large enough to fill out a 4 inch pot so I'm hoping to see blooms soon. If I don't see any this year then I'll have to start looking for ways to get them cooler. I grow them indoors with good southerly light but am a cheap American and don't heat much in the winter. Fingers crossed.

My Cymbidium keeled over shortly after potting it up - as usual 🙄. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Hannah's is really just stressed. It's such a lovely color. I think I have at least 2 Cymbidium pots stored away in the basement 🤔 and our local home improvement store used to sell them, in the garden section, in two different sizes. I will be there this Saturday, so I'll have a look if they still got them.
@GrowingOrchidswithRoger
@GrowingOrchidswithRoger 3 месяца назад
My main problem with those sorts of pots is the sizes they are sold in are in litres which is useless for me - I need measurements like width and depth in cm/mm. I think Rose pots may work as they are deep and sold in larger sizes?
@tinasachs8688
@tinasachs8688 3 месяца назад
@@GrowingOrchidswithRoger i'm not sure about the rose pots, as I never had any, but the cymbidium pots here have the needed measurements on the bottom. The cymbidium I recently lost was a mini and its pot is 14cm in width and 16cm in depth. The ones in my basement should be bigger than that though, as they had the normal sized cymbs in them. I'll have an unplanned doctor's appointment coming up at Noon and will pass the home improvement store on the way. If it's not pouring down, like it says in the forecast, I'll go have a look. I'm curious now, lol. EDIT: So the two pots that I have are both 14cm in width and 16cm in depth. The home improvement store carries them in the same size. They are currently only available via order though, due to lack of storage space in the store. They also do have normal transparent "orchid pots" (they are sold as those but lack the air cone in the bottom) up to 21 cm in width. I think the depth is 1 cm less than the width on those.

Nitrogen (N) - Phosphorus (P) - Potassium (K) Here in California, a lot of people keep cymbidiums under a tree or some bushes. Keeps them in the shade during the hottest part of the summer with some sun in the mornings and evenings. Usually people say if the leaves are the color of an unripe banana, you know it's getting enough light. Maybe you can find a spot near the bushes by the fence?

With wheels on the staging, they will not be fixed in one place and can all be moved together.

I have used bloom boosters a lot on "other" plants and they usually only get money from your pockets instead of flowers on plants. Even a test with plants getting boosters and plants getting none doesn't show the result promised on the bottle

Why are you so careful about contamination from that last plant to the others through the water but so blasé with the Miltonia that might still have Fusarium? The same precautions should be taken with both plants. As a retired microbiology team leader from a large water company I can assure you there are many pathogenic organisms who love water and will easily be transferred from one plant to another. When you use the jug of seaweed solution to soak roots just use individual cover pots. Pour separate aliquots through each plant into it's own pot and leave before discarding the liquid. You can keep each cover pot with it's own plant and in place of any black pots to deter algae 🤷‍♀️.

The 'last plant' has a possible virus - the others don't.
