I worked in the IT field in Quality Assurance primarily testing websites. I can totally appreciate all of the effort that was put into developing Roots Magic8. The upgrade entailed an astronomical amount of coordination and integration of all of the parts in order for this upgrade to happen. Thanks for all of your hard work and the endless amount of time spent pulling this altogether. Great job 👏

I am watching the video now, after waiting to update mac and download RM8. I am so excited because I am seeing so many wonderful changes to items I used all the time, but it was time consuming. Thank you. I haven't 'played' with my database yet but am anxious to getting caught up after a year of absence.
@A life Not Wasted Nelson I just tested it; it works fine for me. I had a person with 5 FS hints. 3 were pending, 2 were confirmed. After confirming I now have 2 pending, 3 confirmed.
I hope there will be a switch to turn a the "smart sentencing" features on any report. I find most sentence formatting RM7 adds just make no since. I want to be able to switch off the formatting and let it print what ever I wrote.
Currently RM7 shows the relationship and the bottom of the screen. You have a lot of space at the top of your new edit person screen, why not put it up there so I don't have to look for it.
Insalling RM8, will data from RM7 be converted to RM 8? Will date in RM 7 remain in 7, without being deleted from 7? What about transferring Text from 7Publisher to 8??.
There are no help features other than the online forum. I can't search by a name that 'begins with' a certain letter. Can't search by first name! Can't print a list of a searches. Can't sort searches by any criteria.
I found I collect a lot of info about a family Name, my case Barnes, but not specific to me but the whole family or some part of it. It would be nice to have a general family "Note" field for book names, articles, maybe a place to put a reason why someone I was researching is not part of my family, or anything that pertains the family as a whole. Now that I think about it maybe this would not work because everything in RootsMagic has to be capable of exporting to GEDCOM file.
I hope you broke the original connection between a place and location. I want to be able to search on Decatur City Cemetery, without having to KNOW it's in Decatur, Morgan, Alabama, United States first.
@@RootsMagicTV This is not working for me. I have a Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Madison, Alabama and searching for does not work. This is not a friendly way of finding "places". I may not be exactly right on spelling. There should be Places index and then a Location index. That way you can come at it from either direction. I'd also like to see a list for any person using said place or location. Can't find it if it exists.
I am having a difficult time importing my RootsMagic 6 into the newly purchased RootsMagic 8. Can anyone send me a link with specific instructions on how to transfer my RootsMagic 6 to RootsMagic 8? Thanks very much.
I have been using Roots Magic for many many years and love it. BUT, the Roots Magic people have failed with version 8. It will not pull earlier versions into it well...mixes up sources and other things. Probably great if you are just getting started. But, I can NOT get it to import my data base without it destroying sources. I have invested most of this year correcting how it messed up all of my sources and it appears as though version eight has robbed me of years of work. AND their forum is NOT helpful because it is full of very very critical people that are just full of themselves. I tried to get help....they don't seem to be helpful.
I truly dislike the look of the homepage. It's cluttered and looks more like an index than a homepage. I don't need the news, community, support, blah blah blah when I'm starting to work. And why should we have that extraneous stuff sitting there when we open a file and want to look at its properties? It's just not eyeball-friendly, and we should have the option to hide those sections if we wish. Truly wish that this major redesign had come with a better interface design. (I've worked in tech and design for decades. I don't need it to hold my hand; but since I'll be staring at this program for hours, some effort at improving the graphics would have been welcome.)
