Great Video... do you have any idea what will happen to the actual "Prädikate"... Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese... will they not be part of the classification system anymore or will they kind of mix them in somehow as they did in Austria? Before 1971 the "Prädikate" were just styles of wine, not part of a classification, probably would be the best to treat it this way, but I couldn't find it anywhere what they are planning to do with those.
Great question! That PDO-level tier will still include Qualitätswein mit Prädikat, so those levels will still defined by law. In fact, wines that indicate a single vineyard (but aren't Großes Gewächs or Erstes Gewächs) will need to be at least Kabinett-level. As you pointed out, they'll certainly still be useful for indicating wine style (especially in the case of BA/TBA/etc.). I think that would be a better fit for them too.
