Working as an arborist I often get questions about what gear I have on me, so this me going through the tree climbing gear on my harness.. This is what I have on me for pruning jobs, section fellings and rec climbing.
“I kind of want to protect and keep my eyes.” 😁 ya that sounds like the way I’d say it. Love my armor. I find the fusible link concept of those micro cut-ready webbing slings a funny idea. A fan sent me some one time, said he was worried about me. Kind of defeats the point of a wire core flip-line. Instead they should just require better tools for the rescue kit.
You said safety about 10 times. I applaud your safety approach...to many people lost their lives and seriously injured themselves forgetting about safety! Keep on ! you are doing the right things 👍
No kidding. I see people mock about being “too safe” or inconvenient of getting work done. Getting injured or losing a life is probably a little more inconvenient 😏
I proof why you don’t get to comfortable with climbing and don’t forget safety. I fell about 50 feet and broke my back. I was paralyzed but I got back where I could walk and eventually back climbing. I don’t do much anymore but always will love it but I’m lazy these days.
Yes, I picked up a silky subat 330 last fall. I couldn’t believe how fast it could cut. It is definitely one of my favourite tools. And as usual I like your ending! 🇨🇦
The irony of course is that the discomfort of thinking about things like needing to be rescued; backups-for-backups, falling etc leaves the mind fixating on negative outcomes. The reality of course is few things you HAVE plans and strategies for occur - so the better prepared you are for mishaps/eventualities the less likely you are to need and rely on these precautions.
Good lord you should see my Treemotion S Light harness lol. I am a GEAR JUNKY!!! I love climbing trees. I’m a serious recreational climber and over the last year spent several thousand and am glad I did. You only live once so I’m going all in!!! Watched my Mom pass from cancer 6 months ago now my 2 uncles have it and are near dead so I appreciate every single day!!! Take care and thank you for sharing
Nice channel. You carry a lot of gear on your harness. When I started climbing in NZ we had a harness, 3 strand ropes, 3 strand prusik loops and steel core flip line. Most of the time we carried nothing else but a hand saw and tool strop for the 020 chainsaw. Sometimes all we climbed with was a linesman belt and spikes. That is basically like a thick belt that looks like the top half of a harness with 2 D loops and lanyard made of chain. No main line at all, just climbing spikes lanyard and a bit of bravado.
I agree with August but as a safety engineer in US North Carolina, I know equipment and practices are developed over time and for various reasons with varying experiences. Like the gear. All good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Way cool 😎, very professional and informative. Love the t-shirt, and the adult jungle gym LOL. Keep up the great work you're an amazing credit to the treeple.👍👍😁
The level of attention towards safety and the adaptability towards saving other and being rescued, is on point. That's the core of the type of training that I'm looking for here in the Northeast, US.
I like how you think about risk and how to reduce or even remove it. Such as a saw never crossing the rope and the potentiality of needing to cut your lanyard in the event of a rescue. That is wisdom I can use.
I think you have the right stuff . Not to much no5 to little. You're doing great, coming from 20 year climber,. Keep up the great work. Thank you for sharing you're knowledge 😎❤️
Had to watch the video 6 times… I had a hard time keeping the focus with the T shirt 😏 Either way, nice video and love how you bring up safety so much, great job 👌👍
Absolutely! I am specifically searching up harness setups people have: to find ways to make my work easier and safer. •I found the Petzl Zillon would be great; but I’ll wait a bit more due to expense; and sufficed with a DMM nexus swivel to help tending my lanyard slack easier: since it’ll only tend when I pull in perfect direction of the pulley’s location. •Teufelberger Keeper will help me immensely with my ~20’ lanyard always getting stuck on limbs around/below me. 👌🏼 •I finally decided to get Pfanner Protos after one year of annoyance dealing with rope & branches getting stuck on my earmuffs going through thick entangled tree branches. Trying my coworker’s helmet: I found it fits more securely and more comfortably than my Kask Super Plasma (super annoying with upper part always “floating” loosely on my hair due to headband adjustment design.”)
I just ordered a Rope Runner Pro. I love my Rope Wrenches and DMM Captain hooks. Use a SAKA for left n Petzl for Right foot. Just tired of going slow on descents to not burn out my friction hitches so with the RRP I can bomb around!!
Very nice, but as an absolute amateur, I would have liked to see you wearing it all by the end. I have some gear, but it isn’t obvious to me what goes where. I’m getting ready to slowly take down the brown birch tree in my front yard, and have no tolerance for injuring myself. I hope this doesn’t offend, but I was happily surprised to see a beautiful, articulate, female lumberjack who clearly knows her trade! Some people talk about the old days, but this is better.
You can emergency descend by tying a Italian hitch on your carabiner if you main descender fails. And add a French prussik down on your leg loop on a carabiner for extra safety if you know what I mean.
Instead of carrying a DMM Hitch and a Prussik cord, I would simply clove hitch the Rope to my belt and do a blake on the other strand to descend safely without extra gear needed.
Safe than sorry, first aide kit in centre of your back doesn’t work in real world, looks good maybe but needs to be in front where you can see it and reach it with ether hand when your injured and panicking.
Hi fellow tree person . Not much a climber but a faller. Question I got for you , is how often do you as an arborist have to get new or rebuild ur saws and what do you seem to wear out the most ? Thankyou for your time . Your cool . 🌲🦄
You're supposed to use the hole with the rubber grommet on the zig zag, leaving the other for things such as a chicane. Not too big of a deal, but if anything were to happen, petzl would be able to blame it on user error.
Yes better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Have you got or would a loud whistle be handy. You can make a whistle work much longer with less effort if hurt than yelling just some thoughts thanx
When you are climbing. Have you ever come across a snake up in a tree. In Florida, snakes are almost every where. Since this is a physical type of work. Do you have any type of physical fitness workouts.
Would you not wear a full body harness like the signing rock the are really comfortable and light weight and for rescue they are really good to work with .
Can u tell me how to order a free catalog from the place u buy ur equipment plz mama, thank u for ur time ,I do appreciate u taken time out to make these videos for us people who are just starting out on climbing...for what it's worth thank u....keep up the great work plz be safe n god bless .
Felixia, I saw this video of a man in Oregon that has a cross-cut saw sharpening station. He shows how he sets it up and discusses the homemade components. I figured that since lumber is your profession, that you probably have a deep respect for the old ways. Here you go, and I hope that you enjoy it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lx2WSCBqPtA.html
Yes ma'am. Sometime if you think about it, or you're so inclined, would you wear your gear and show us how you rig yourself to climb a tree? No I'm not going to get into the tree and use this as an instructional video, LOL I'm just curious to see how someone who does it for a living sets all that gear up and then gets in a tree! LOL
